Today we will look at the Millen gas hob — MGH 701 IX. This model is a classic stove with five burners, including a large central wok burner. It is equipped with electric ignition and a gas control system. It is also possible to connect to gas cylinders, which makes it a convenient choice for those who use the surface in the country or in a private house where there is no main gas.
Let's take a closer look at the surface and, of course, test it in action.

Equipment
Inside the main box, in addition to the device itself and a bag with additional accessories, there are three small cardboard boxes with bars.
Having opened the boxes, the main one and three small ones, inside we found:
- the panel itself with flame adjustment knobs and installed jets for the main gas and an angle fitting
- 3 cast iron grates
- set of flame spreaders for 4 burners
- divider covers
- a set of jets and gaskets for converting to bottled gas
- instructions, warranty card
- mounting kit for mounting the slab to the surface (screws and special angles)
- mounting tape with adhesive layer
At first sight
The appearance of the hob looks typical and standard. It is an ordinary stainless steel product without any innovation or original elements.
The design does not have any special characteristics. All surface components are made with high quality and predictability. Rectangular cast iron grates add rigor and strength to the device, and also create the impression of reliability.
The grate of our hob consists of three rectangular sections made of cast iron. The left and right sections can be swapped, and the central section can be rotated 180 degrees. Although the diameter of the burners varies, the distance between the grooves for the four burners is the same and is approximately 9x9 cm. For the central burner, this distance is 12x12 cm. The total usable area of all three sections of the grate is 40x68.5 cm.

The maximum load distributed over all five burners should not exceed 30 kg. It is recommended that the weight of the cookware on the largest hotplate does not exceed 6 kg, including contents.
Knobs for adjusting the gas supply are located on the front of the panel. This reduces the available work surface, but other countertop integration options are not possible.
The handles themselves are easy to use. There is a small depression on their upper surface that makes it easier to determine their position. Even in the dark you can easily distinguish them tactilely.
The handles are removable and are fixed in place using small spring-loaded insert plates. To protect the stove from moisture, special rubber inserts and gaskets are provided under the handles.
It should be borne in mind that the service life of such rubber gaskets is usually shorter than the service life of the plate itself. After 10-15 years, the rubber may begin to wear out and tear. The shape and size of the gaskets can vary significantly depending on the model, and the cost of replacement gaskets can be high. Therefore, it is recommended to try to avoid unnecessary removal of handles and carefully wash the area under them.
There are adjusting screws under the handles that allow you to change the intensity of the gas supply (flame height). This may be required when changing nozzles or switching to a different type of gas. By default, the stove is designed for use with natural gas and does not require additional settings.
On the surface next to each knob there is a drawing of the control range and a burner designation.
The burners are installed on a slight elevation above the main surface, which provides protection against flooding of the well in case of accidental boiling over of liquid. This also promotes better heat dissipation and reduces surface heating.
When examining the burners, you will notice the presence of gas control and electric ignition.
All jets are installed perpendicular to the panel surface, so for replacement you only need a screwdriver for nuts with the appropriate size (internal hexagon) — 7 mm.
Millen MGH 701 IX is supplied with an additional set of jets for bottled gas. When replacing, you must follow the instructions and markings: each burner has its own jet. If the instructions are not at hand, then we follow the markings, installing the jets so that the minimum number corresponds to the smallest burner, and the maximum corresponds to the largest.
The dividers are made carefully and fit well into the sockets without distortion.
The large (Wok) burner has a power of 3300 W and consists of a large divider and two separate lids.
The remaining burners differ only in size: here we will find one high-power burner — 2500 W, two burners of 1750 W and one of 1000 W.
The panel has a height of 4.5 cm without grilles and 10.5 with grilles. The side surface is made of metal without holes. On the side we see stickers indicating that the stove has passed all the necessary quality control tests.
The connection cord comes out from the back of the stove. The cord is equipped with a plug despite the fact that the stove is designed to be built-in and permanently connected.
A gas pipe comes out from the bottom side to connect to gas, be it main gas or gas from a cylinder. To protect against damage during transportation and installation, it is equipped with a plastic cap. The kit also includes a sealing gasket.
A standard kit for fastening the surface to the tabletop: self-tapping screws, corner clamps, sealing tape with an adhesive layer, adapter fitting for a gas hose.
Instructions
The hob comes with a general instruction manual covering several Millen models. This manual describes the features of each model, their technical characteristics and rules of use, including installation, operation, maintenance and safety precautions.
At the end, installation and connection instructions and troubleshooting tips are provided.
Control
The hob burners are controlled mechanically using knobs on the front panel. When you turn the knob counterclockwise, the gas supply is turned on, and when you press the knob, the electric ignition is triggered. To turn on the burner, you need to press the knob and turn it to the middle position between the minimum and maximum gas supply.
According to the instructions, the knob should be held down for up to 15 seconds after the flame appears for the gas control system to operate correctly. However, in practice, only a few seconds are often sufficient.
The stove has no other controls.
Connection and installation
Getting started with the panel did not cause us any difficulties. The dimensions for embedding this model are 490x560 mm. The panel is attached from below using fasteners (clamps), for which there are holes in each corner of the hob.
A sealing tape is installed between the countertop and the panel, according to the instructions. It is important to carefully monitor the recommended dimensions in order to maintain the necessary gaps and distances to other elements of kitchen furniture. For example, the recommended minimum clearance to a side or rear wall is 55mm, and the distance between the bottom of the unit and any surface underneath should be at least 25mm.
The user guide also contains recommendations for providing ventilation in small spaces. The corner fitting can be used or removed depending on the connection conditions.
As usual, we warn you that adjustment of the gas supply and connection to the main gas must be carried out by qualified personnel of the relevant organizations.
Exploitation
Before using it, we wiped the hob with a damp cloth. During the first few runs, we noticed a slight technical odor, which disappeared completely after testing.
We appreciated the shape of the racks, which securely hold dishes of various sizes without dangling or making extraneous sounds.
The gas control worked reliably: operation occurred in most cases within 5-6 seconds, and even faster on the central burner. However, it was rarely necessary to resort to it, since blowing out the flame turned out to be difficult, especially on small burners.
Electric ignition also did not cause any complaints. It is important to keep the spark plug clean.
Despite the presence of five burners, comfortable use of all at once is not always possible due to high power and the release of a large amount of heat. The power of the wok burner is 3.3 kW, but it is possible to adjust the flame height to adjust the heating intensity.
The size of the working surface of the racks is 40x68 cm. This means that there is little space left for large dishes, and for dishes with a small bottom diameter, an additional stand may be needed.
Care
The manufacturer recommends cleaning the stove after each use to avoid dirt from baking on the surface. The main cleaning agent is a sponge soaked in soapy water or a special product for stainless steel.
It is not recommended to use a steam cleaner or harsh chemicals. Burners and grates should be washed with soap, avoiding metal brushes. It is also important to ensure that the rubber pads on the underside of the grilles remain in place. After washing, all parts should be thoroughly dried before installation.
It is also recommended to periodically clean the spark plug, especially if it is dirty, which can lead to spark problems. More detailed care instructions can be found in the appropriate section of the user manual.
Our measurements
Gas control on all burners except the wok is activated 5-6 seconds after the flame goes out. On the wok — after 3-5 seconds. Electric ignition works correctly.
Practice tests
Wok burner
To get acquainted with the functionality of the surface and its features, we decided to use a large frying pan and try to cook something on it. We had frozen beans that we added to preheated oil.
After the beans were defrosted (about 3-4 minutes), the frying process began, and its speed turned out to be very high.
To avoid burning of individual pods, it was necessary to stir the contents of the pan every 45-60 seconds or even more often.
Obviously, such power will be enough to quickly and efficiently prepare all kinds of wok dishes. We'll definitely try this a little later!
Result: excellent
Lazy cabbage rolls
For lazy cabbage rolls, we took minced meat, some cabbage and rice, an egg, onions, garlic and spices. Everything was crushed, mixed and formed into several cabbage rolls.
Our next task was to fry the beans on both sides until golden brown. First we decided to start the process on the wok burner. However, we soon noticed that even at the minimum heating power it was going too fast. So we moved the pan to the high-power corner burner, the second largest after the center burner.
Upon completion of frying, we added tomato paste and cream to the frying pan, covered the cabbage rolls with a lid and moved them to the smallest burner for stewing.
Our cabbage rolls were ready in about 25 minutes. We were more than satisfied with the result: the minced meat was evenly heated to its entire depth.
At the same time, it was not overdried and remained juicy and soft.
The final result: tasty, beautiful, simple.
Result: excellent
Wok-frying (frying)
Now let's see how the stove copes with frying large portions of food. We chopped the onion and grated the carrots. We filled the wok with this mixture and placed it on the central burner.
By the way, the photo clearly shows that a full-size wok occupies almost the entire work space. You can only place a small ladle nearby.
We noted the time and started frying at maximum heat.
During the frying process, the contents were stirred regularly to avoid burning.
The frying was ready 18 minutes after turning on the gas. Quite standard time for such a volume of work.
Result: excellent
Pork steak
Let's see what happens when we fry meat. We took some pork steaks, let them warm slightly at room temperature, and placed them in a hot pan.
To begin with, we chose the minimum time — 1 minute on each side.
During this time, nice browned areas managed to form on the surface.
However, one minute is quite a bit. We did not expect that the steak would be completely cooked during this time. Rather, they wanted to find out exactly what degree of roasting would be achieved.
As we can see in the photo, it turned out something similar to medium rare.
If the meat is good and you are not afraid of undercooked areas, you can safely eat it. It turned out tasty and juicy. If you are afraid or don’t like it, fry it a little longer.
We fried the next steak for 2.5 minutes on one side and 2 minutes on the other.
The result was more traditional. And still just as delicious.
Result: excellent
Cheese cream soup
Cream cheese soup involves both frying and cooking. To prepare, we chopped the potatoes, carrots and onions relatively coarsely and placed them in a saucepan.
Then fried over medium heat.
Added hot water...
Boil for 20-30 minutes, add processed cheese and blend until smooth using an immersion blender.
There were no difficulties noted, everything went smoothly and simply.
In just 10 minutes (minus the cooking time) we got an excellent light soup for adults and children.
Result: excellent
Chicken bouillon
Finally, we wanted to find out if we could cook the most ordinary broth on our stove. To recap, we want to avoid intense boiling here, so the desired temperature is somewhere between 90 and 100 degrees. Then there will be no violent formation of foam, you will not have to add water to replace what has boiled away, and you will get a good clear broth.
For the broth, we took chicken, added onions, carrots and cold water. We weighed the contents of the pan: we got exactly three kilograms (including meat and vegetables).
We skimmed off a small amount of foam using a slotted spoon, then moved the pan to the smallest burner, on low heat, and began to observe.
It turned out that in this mode the temperature inside the pan is maintained at 94-95 degrees — exactly what we need for a good broth. At the same time, we still have “room for maneuver”: we can take a larger container and accordingly increase the gas supply to achieve the same result.
The result can safely be called excellent: clear broth, well-cooked chicken — ideal for a light snack.
Let us remind you that you can slightly adjust the intensity of the gas supply using screws hidden under the handles of the surface. This way you can achieve the ideal result for any pan size. In theory, you can even adjust one burner so that it works best with your favorite household pan.
Result: excellent
conclusions
We are completely satisfied with the Millen MGH 701 IX gas hob after our tests. The device has a simple, but convenient and thoughtful design, easy to care for, easy to operate and operate. Using this panel, we can conveniently cook on three burners: a saucepan or frying pan with a diameter of up to 25 cm is placed in the center, plus two containers of 17-20 cm each on either side. Alternatively, you can use a large wok and another small container.
In our tests, we've found that the gas cooktop performs adequately in a wide variety of usage scenarios, from keeping water (broth) below boiling point to quickly frying at high temperatures. In addition, all intermediate modes, such as stewing and others, are easily adjusted depending on the size of the cookware and the volume of contents thanks to the presence of three burners of different diameters and performance.
This model of gas hob can be connected to both main gas and a cylinder. Gas control and electric ignition work flawlessly. The flames of all three burners are stable and have a sufficient range of adjustment, which allows you to quickly sear or cook slowly.
