At first sight

The appearance of the independent hob Millen MEH 702 BL is designed in a classic style. The surface of this elegant frameless model is made of glossy borosilicate glass from the famous brand Schott Ceran. The tapered edges of the glass add a modern and elegant look to the panel.

The outlines of the burners with Hi Light heating elements and touch control buttons are highlighted in white.

The surface of this hob is equipped with four single-circuit burners with a diameter of 16.5 cm each, providing the same power. In addition, it also has one three-circuit burner, which can change the size of the heating zone depending on the diameter of the cookware used: 120/170/230 mm.

Along the edges of the glass you can see the degree of its transparency; without embedding, the color can be called not black, but dark brown. The thickness of the glass is 3 mm, the total thickness of the panel is slightly less than 5 cm.

A strip of foam rubber is attached to the back side around the perimeter. There are ventilation slots in the front side part.

The lower part of the device is made of galvanized iron. At the bottom there are holes for ventilation and technical slots, as well as a sticker with information about the product.

Closer to the back side, a meter-long power cable without a plug is attached to the case. The panel is connected to a power supply network with parameters of 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz.

Control

The control unit, conventionally consisting of three parts, is traditionally located in the middle in the near part of the panel.

The middle row (from left to right) is responsible for:

  • increasing/decreasing the heating zone of the central burner
  • pause and resume heating of all operating burners
  • setting timer parameters
  • locking the control panel from accidental touches
  • turning on/off the hob

Behind these buttons there is a slider for selecting heating power.

This interface is also used to set a timer, which allows you to automatically turn off one or more burners after a set time has elapsed. The maximum timer value is 99 minutes. When the timer is triggered, the heating is completely turned off, without the possibility of an audible warning without shutting down.

The Pause function pauses all cooking zones simultaneously for a maximum period of 10 minutes. After the time has elapsed, if the panel is not activated, it will automatically turn off.

The residual heat indicator, indicated by the letter «H» next to a switched-off but still hot burner, will remain illuminated until the surface temperature in that area is safe.

The burner sensors, equipped with clear symbols, are located behind the control slider.

A burner operating at a certain power will automatically turn off after the set time has elapsed.

Connection and installation

The cable designed to connect the panel to the electrical network has five cores: two pairs for connecting heating elements and one for grounding. The procedure for installing and connecting the panel is described in detail in the instructions.

Exploitation

With the Millen MEH 702 BL, cooking becomes a convenient and enjoyable experience. We consider the control of the panel to be intuitive and convenient. You quickly get used to controlling 4-5 burners at the same time, like easy mahjong. The touch panel with a single scale does not take up much space and is located exactly in the center, which makes it accessible even when using the front burners.

The central burner on the Millen MEH 702 BL has three contours with well-chosen dimensions. This allows you to use it for a variety of purposes: from brewing coffee in a small ladle to heating larger dishes without taking up extra space. The largest circle of the central heating zone is ideal for dishes with a diameter of up to 28 cm, and if you place a container with a diameter of 22-24 cm, then on the other four burners you can easily place dishes up to 20-22 cm in size.

The maximum weight of the cookware, including the food in it, even on a large central burner, should not exceed 5 kg.

The heating element of each heating zone is slightly smaller than its size by about 1 cm. This does not affect the cooking process, however, when frying, if the appearance of the food is important, it is recommended to swap them from time to time.

Care

Caring for the glass surface of the panel is standard: it is recommended to clean it regularly using specialized products for this type of surface. It is important to avoid the use of harsh chemicals and abrasive materials. In case of stagnant dirt, you can use a scraper designed for cleaning glass ceramics.

Our measurements

Actual power of the burners, according to our measurements:

HotplateDeclared powerActual power
Central three-circuit heating zone (∅120/170/230 mm)700/1400/2100 W667/1795/1877 W
Regular ∅165 mm (near left)1200 W1106 W
Regular ∅165 mm (far left)1200 W1123 W
Regular ∅165 mm (near right)1200 W1096 W
Regular ∅165 mm (far right)1200 W1122 W

During the measurements, it was revealed that the heating elements in this hob operate only at one power, which approximately corresponds to the maximum. This means that the burner heats up at full power for a certain period of time and then switches off and goes into standby mode. Adjustment of the heating level is determined by the ratio of heating time and pause duration. The total duration of the heating and pause cycle is approximately 60 seconds. Continuous heating is only possible when set to level 9 and only for the first 5 minutes. After this, the heating is turned off for 15 seconds every minute.

Based on the measurement results, it was found that after 5 minutes of operation, the surface temperature of the largest burner reaches 492 degrees. The panel cools slowly, so 15-second breaks in operation have little effect on the cooking process, especially if thick-walled cookware is used.

Boiling 1 liter of water at 20°C

On a central burner with a maximum contour set to power level 9, a 1-liter pan with a closed lid and an initial water temperature of 20 °C boiled in 7 minutes. At this point, the energy consumption was 0.215 kWh, and the maximum recorded power was 1877 W.

On the near left burner with a power of 1200 W, also on level 9, 1 liter of water boiled in 11 minutes. Energy consumption was 0.153 kWh.

The panel does not make any noise, with the exception of faint clicks when turning the heating on and off.

Practice tests

Chicken bouillon

We placed a couple of legs in a pan, added an onion, salt and filled them with water.

After about 16 minutes, the liquid began to boil, after which we removed the foam and reduced the burner power to level 5. After some time, the light boiling point was measured and found to be 90 °C. The broth was cooked for almost an hour, and the temperature, if at all, changed only slightly, reaching a maximum of 93 °C. The result was a flavorful and rich broth, and thanks to the stable, barely noticeable simmer, there was no need to spend time at the stove.

Steak and coffee

A piece of beef at room temperature was placed in a frying pan that was heated on the central heating zone with maximum contour.

At the 9th, maximum power level, the surface of the steak was browned on both sides instantly. Then the heating was reduced to level 7.

In total, it took us 4.5 minutes to fry to the medium stage. For about 2 more minutes, the steak, sprinkled with salt and black pepper, rested on a plate under foil.

While our attention was focused on frying the steak, coffee began to boil on a nearby burner in a ceramic Turk. Just as the meat was finished frying, the coffee foam began to rise. We immediately removed the Turk from the heat, let the foam fall, and repeated the procedure. Then we placed the container on the cold part of the stove and let it stand for another minute, it was during this time that we photographed the meat.

Result: excellent

Cutlets

Frying took place in a frying pan with a bottom diameter of 24 cm on a three-circuit burner with a maximally expanded heating zone, designed for a container of up to 23 cm.

The cutlets quickly browned on setting 9 for a few minutes on each side.

As you can see from the photo, the outer edges of the cutlets are noticeably paler, so we swapped them and evened out the color of the crust.

Then we reduced the power, covered the frying pan with a lid and brought them to readiness on the 6th level.Result: excellent

Rice noodles with turkey and vegetables

Ingredients: rice noodles — 300 g, turkey — 300 g, bell pepper — 1 pc., carrots — 1 pc., a couple of cloves of garlic, several green onions, buckwheat honey — 2 tbsp. l., soy sauce — 4 tbsp. l., ground ginger and salt — to taste.

The action again took place on the central burner with a maximum increase in the heating zone. At power level 9, we alternately roasted the turkey,

then bell pepper, carrots with garlic and green onions.

We combined all the ingredients, added melted buckwheat honey, mixed with soy sauce, ground ginger and salt, and mixed.

At this time, water began to boil on the far right burner. We dipped rice noodles into it, let it cook for 5 minutes, then threw it into a colander and, after waiting until all the water had drained, placed it in a frying pan and mixed it with vegetables and meat.

conclusions

Millen MEH 702 BL is a modern built-in hob with five Hi-Light burners, convenient controls and reliable power indicators. It handles a wide range of culinary tasks with ease. The boiling point remains stable at a minimum level, and maximum power ensures fast and high-quality cooking.

The dimensions of the burners and the presence of a triple expansion zone make it possible to use containers of very different diameters. For maximum user comfort, the device is equipped with a timer, residual heat indication, blocking the panel from accidental touches, as well as pause and automatic shutdown functions after a certain amount of time depending on the heating level.

There are several nuances that are worth paying attention to. Firstly, the timer is limited to 99 minutes, and it is also impossible to set it as an audible reminder without turning off the heating. Secondly, the pause does not work for any one burner; the operation of all heating zones will be suspended for 10 minutes at the same time. Thirdly, this model does not have the ability to turn off sound signals. However, it is worth noting that they are quiet and not annoying.

Pros:

  • triple circuit heating zone
  • convenient location of the control panel
  • Timer, pause, lock and auto-off functions
  • residual heat indicator

Minuses:

  • no mute beeps
  • 99 minutes timer may not be enough
