Redmond BH402 immersion blender review: several speeds with a convenient switch

22.02.2024 10:29

Let's take a look at Redmond's sleek 4-in-1 multifunctional blender, which includes a standard blending attachment, a whisk attachment, a puree attachment, and a dual-blade blending bowl. The design of the device is familiar, with small features such as the added stand for attachments. Note the stylish design with deep blue accents and many stainless steel elements. Now let's check out what this blender can do in practice during our tests.

* Contrary to popular belief, this is not the time limit after which the device will necessarily break down. However, after this period, the manufacturer ceases to bear any responsibility for its performance and has the right to refuse to repair it, even for a fee.

Equipment

The blender is packaged in a medium-sized rectangular box that does not have handles for easy portability.

The design of the box corresponds to the Redmond corporate style: on the front side there are bright images of the blender, accessories and the brand name with the device model.

Upon opening the box, we found the following components:

  • Motor block
  • Immersion nozzle with knife
  • Mixing glass (also used as a measuring cup)
  • Cover for the glass
  • Whisk attachment
  • Attachment for making puree
  • Grinding bowl
  • Cover for the bowl
  • Removable knife installed in the bowl
  • Operating manual and warranty card

All components are packed in thick plastic bags and protected from damage by special cardboard inserts inside the box, ensuring reliable transportation without the possibility of damage.

The blender's equipment corresponds to the standard set for «4 in 1» devices, providing the capabilities of blending, grinding in a bowl, making purees and whisking.

At first sight

The blender and all its accessories are made in the same style, highlighted by a deep blue color. The main materials used in the device and attachments include matte blue plastic (not soft-touch) and stainless steel. This stylish design gives the device a premium look and feel, giving it the impression of a premium device.

The body of the motor unit has weight, providing a reliable and comfortable hold in the hand. The Redmond logo, device power indication and key indication are highlighted on the front panel. The control zone is located at the top and includes two mechanical buttons and a speed switch.

Installation of attachments is carried out by rotating relative to the motor block. The main blending attachment is made entirely of stainless steel, which makes it safe to use even for blending hot soups.

The seemingly simple four-bladed knife is made of stainless steel and is cleverly hidden under a complex wavy cap with six protrusions, supposedly facilitating effective mixing of products. Each pair of symmetrical knife blades is characterized by long blades, sharpened on one side, and short blades, having only one beveled, unsharpened side.

The second standard attachment is a whisk made of a plastic base and a stainless steel attachment. The design of the rim is familiar to us as a set of bent wires.

The whisk is easily detached from the base, which greatly simplifies the cleaning process. The metal part can be easily washed under running water using detergent.

The next attachment in line is the masher, which is made of stainless steel with plastic blades and is ideal for making purees quickly and easily. Typically, such attachments are made entirely of plastic, but the option with metal parts looks more reliable and pleasant to use.

The plastic blades are easily removed with a firm pull down, making cleaning the nozzle convenient and simple.

The grinding bowl has a standard appearance, representing a glass with a wide neck and a deep blue plastic lid, which ensures a reliable connection to the motor unit. The bowl itself is made of transparent plastic, which indicates the maximum permissible level of filling with products.

An S-shaped knife is installed inside the bowl, which is responsible for the process of chopping food. The knife is mounted on a spring base, which ensures continuous contact with the motor unit and efficient operation of the device.

The measuring cup, made of clear plastic, can be used as a blending or whipping container. Its capacity is 1000 ml, which is enough to prepare several servings of drink or a large amount of sauce. The jug comes with a blue plastic lid that tightly closes it on top.

Assembly of the blue plastic stand is simple, as it includes only two parts that are inserted into each other. However, there is no additional fastening to secure these parts, so the top of the stand is not securely fixed and can wobble upon contact.

To install any of the attachments, you need to connect the motor unit with the attachment, following the hint icons, and then rotate the unit relative to the attachment by several degrees.

After an external inspection of the blender and its attachments, we were satisfied. The kit looks stylish, the build quality is noteworthy, and the materials look quite attractive. We hope that the device will also please us in the “testing” section.

Instructions

The instruction manual is presented in a pocket book format and includes 19 pages, available in Russian and Kazakh languages. The first 13 pages contain text in Russian and illustrations, providing comprehensive information about the structure of the device and the rules for its use.

The manual contains all the standard sections: description of the device and safety precautions, preparation for work and operation, rules for using nozzles, as well as recommendations regarding the optimal duration of continuous operation.

Control

Operating the device is extremely simple and intuitive. The upper of the two flat plastic buttons activates the blender in the main mode (at 12,000-15,000 rpm, according to the manufacturer). Pressing this button lighter or harder allows you to smoothly adjust the speed. The second button is for the “turbo” mode with 15500 rpm.

Above the flat power buttons there is a blue plastic switch that allows you to set the desired speed from 1 to 6 in advance or during operation of the device.

Exploitation

Before use, the manufacturer recommends unrolling and aligning the wire, thoroughly rinsing and drying all parts of the blender, with the exception of the motor unit. The motor unit can be wiped first with a damp and then with a dry cloth. Installing any of the attachments into the socket of the motor unit is easy, with the alignment of the hint icons and subsequent rotation of the attachment relative to the body. Removing the attachments is done in the reverse order.

According to the instructions, the continuous operation time is 1-2 minutes for the blender attachment, up to 3 minutes for the whisk, 1-2 minutes for the chopper bowl and only 1 minute for the puree attachment. It is recommended to keep a break of 10 minutes between starts. However, despite this recommendation, the device did not go into protective mode in our case, even when the recommended break was ignored. If a rest is necessary, the blender only needs 30 minutes to recover before the next job.

Note that the plastic stand did not leave a very pleasant impression. Although it is easy to assemble with just two pieces that fit together, the lack of additional fasteners results in the top being unstable and wobbly upon contact.

It is assumed that the idea was more interesting than its implementation, and the stand could not only attract attention with its design, but also simplify the process of using the device. For example, by providing the ability to quickly attach and release a motor unit with an attachment, freeing the user’s hands.

I especially enjoyed using the puree attachment, which gets the job done efficiently and quickly, and the removable blades make cleaning easy. However, it is important to clean immediately after use.

For most household tasks, one minute of work is usually enough. It is important to note that it is not recommended to crush hard ingredients such as nuts, ice or frozen foods. When using a blender bowl, it is recommended to run the blender in short cycles of a few seconds.

Care

The rules for cleaning a blender are presented in fairly obvious directions. The developers included a special table in the manual, visually explaining that the motor unit, plastic bowl lid and plastic part of the whisk should be avoided from wet handling (they can only be wiped with a damp cloth).

The bowl, measuring cup and steel whisk can be washed under running water and in the dishwasher. However, it is recommended to wash the blender attachment under running water only from the bottom, and the top part should be thoroughly wiped and protected from moisture.

It is important to note that strict adherence to these recommendations means that splashes and product particles on moisture-sensitive parts will have to be removed immediately after use of the device using rags and napkins. It turned out that the shredder lid was especially inconvenient to wipe off dirt. Failure to comply with instructions and attempting to wash all parts under the tap may result in loss of warranty coverage.

As for the knives, they can be rinsed (the S-shaped bowl knife can also be washed in the dishwasher), but it is not recommended to wipe them with a cloth.

Our measurements

The blender's stated power ranges from 1200 Watts (nominal) to 1800 Watts (maximum), which is impressive for a hand-held immersion model. However, in practice, we only observed readings of up to 274 W on the wattmeter screen, which may indicate the presence of a serious power reserve. At rest, the device consumes no more than 0.1 W.

The motor unit weighs 810 g, the main nozzle weighs 218 g. The length of the motor unit is 22 cm, and the attachments are 20 cm. The total length of the blender assembly is 42 cm.

The blender noise level ranges from 75 to 84 dBA, depending on the operating mode.

Practice tests

We tested all the attachments by conducting tests with products of different consistencies. This is what we got.

Tomatoes

For our obligatory tomato test, we took 500g of the fruit and cut it into quarters.

We carried out the process of chopping tomatoes using a blender and the supplied glass.

As a result, with the blender attachment it was possible to obtain a tomato mass of a soft pink color with bubbles. The time spent on grinding was about 30 seconds.

Upon closer inspection, the mixture appeared truly homogeneous and pleasantly smooth.

It is hardly possible to distinguish particles of peel and tiny fragments of seeds. This is a great result.

Energy consumption during the test did not exceed 203 W, and on average remained at about 130 W.

Whipped vegetable cream

Instead of regular cream, we decided to use their plant-based counterpart. This plant-based creamer has predictable properties and, when done correctly, should whip well.

To carry out the test, we took a small amount of vegetable cream, added powdered sugar and began to whip it directly in a glass glass, which we then used for storage.

This is what our mixture looked like at the beginning of the test.

And here is the finished result — after just two minutes of beating, first at low speed, and then in turbo mode.

As we can see, the cream has significantly increased in volume and acquired a thick consistency. Energy consumption did not exceed 78 W.

Chicken fillet pancakes

The grinding bowl is ideal for preparing small portions of meat patties or their lazy counterparts such as hash browns. The ingredients for this experiment were chicken fillets and onion quarters, which were minced in just 1 minute.

Then we transferred our minced meat to another container, added the egg, salt and pepper and mixed everything well.

All that remains is to spoon the mixture into a hot frying pan with oil and fry on both sides.

Smoothie made from banana, frozen berries, oatmeal and natural yogurt

For the next experiment, we have selected a set of ingredients that will test the capabilities of the blender in various aspects: milk, soft banana, frozen berries and dry oatmeal will serve as test materials to evaluate its ability to cope with frozen, viscous and dry products.

We added all the ingredients to the glass one by one, added the required amount of milk and started blending at first speed.

Energy consumption reached 249 W, and it took 1 minute and 30 seconds to prepare the finished smoothie.

The contents of the glass turned into a thick, homogeneous substance, saturated with air bubbles.

The consistency of the smoothie turned out to be homogeneous; no large uncrushed particles were found.

Mashed potatoes

We peeled and boiled some potatoes.

Drained the water, added butter and heated 200 ml of milk.

We started the process of unbending the potatoes without adding liquid, and it went so well that it would have been possible not to add any liquid.

But we, of course, added milk and got hot, aromatic puree with excellent consistency.

We served it with our chicken pancakes, fresh arugula and cucumber.
