“Actually, this study arose from my need to explain in what ways my perspective differs from Freud’s and Adler’s. While trying to answer this question, I came across the problem of types; for it is the psychological type of the person that determines and limits his judgment from the very beginning. Therefore, my book was an attempt to deal with the individual’s relations with the world, with people and with things. It discussed the aspects of consciousness, the various attitudes that the conscious mind can take towards the world, and thus, from what can be called a clinical perspective, it constituted the psychology of consciousness.”
This masterpiece, translated into English, Dutch, French, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish while Jung, one of the leading intellectuals who shaped the 20th century and the present day, was "the fruit of my work in the field of practical psychology for about twenty years. It developed gradually in my thoughts, taking shape from the countless impressions and experiences of a psychiatrist in the treatment of nervous patients, from my meetings with women and men of all social levels, from my personal relationships with friends and enemies, and finally from the criticism of my own psychological peculiarities."
