Mahur Beste is the first novel of Tanpınar’s universe based on incompleteness, with its story that leaves its hero Behçet Bey somewhere and opens up to a network of completely different relationships. With its feature that connects the crises of the disintegration years of Ottoman society with layered backgrounds, it gives indications about the structure of all Tanpınar’s novels. In the middle of bureaucratic conflicts that are not far from the myth of fathers and sons, there is Mahur Beste, composed after a broken love. Tanpınar would later make the fate of the tragic story behind this composition haunt the heroes of his novels Huzur and Sahnenin Dışındaler like a ghost. Thus, neither the story of the heroes will end there, nor the endless impasses of the civilization they were born into…
