Equipment

The humidifier box is designed in the Redmond corporate style: a switched-on device is depicted on a dark gray background, the model index, the company logo and the slogan “Comfortable climate every day” are indicated.

The sides of the package contain detailed specifications of the device and the manufacturer's contact information. Inside the package we found the humidifier itself, a user manual, and a service book.

At first glance

The humidifier body is made of modern white matte plastic. The few decorative elements are silver.

The top panel features a smooth, slightly concave lid with a three-dimensional geometric pattern that gives the impression that it can be used to refill the closed tank. However, in reality, the lid must be lifted to fill the tank with water.

The silver diffuser in the corner of the top panel allows 360° rotation — the flow of cold steam can be oriented in any direction.

There is a water tank under the lid. The outlet at the bottom is covered with a fine mesh that cleans the liquid from scale and deposits.

The water supply to the working chamber is controlled by a spring valve of simple design.

A piezoceramic membrane at the bottom of the working chamber converts water into cold steam. A float sensor switches off the device when the liquid level drops below the minimum. Also at the bottom of the working chamber is a counter part of the inlet valve with a float.

Hidden under the round dark grate is a sterilizer, which, according to the manufacturer, ensures the purification of water from bacteria and allergens.

At the bottom of the base there is a control panel with four touch buttons and LED backlighting.

The device is installed on four oblong legs with anti-slip silicone pads. Between them there is a nameplate with information about the model, serial number, date and place of manufacture.

The air intake grille is located on the rear wall of the device.

Instructions

User manual — 14-sheet brochure.

The Redmond user manual begins with illustrations explaining the device and its operation, followed by text. It is presented in Russian and Kazakh, with the Russian-language part taking up five and a half pages. It briefly describes the operation and management of the humidifier, provides maintenance tips and provides instructions for troubleshooting on your own. The kit also includes a service book.

Control

The control panel consists of a row of touch buttons with white LED indicators.

The leftmost button turns the humidifier on and off. Long pressing it controls the LED backlight.

The button with the image of «steam» regulates the intensity of humidification. The Redmond HF2202 model has three power levels: minimum, medium and maximum. The power level is displayed by turning on the corresponding LED above the button.

The next button selects the operating mode — automatic or night.

The humidifier is equipped with a built-in sterilizer for cleaning water from microbes and allergens, operating in two modes, which are selected by the rightmost button:

  • Standard sterilization: The program operating time is 2 hours. The humidifier operates at the maximum intensity level for the first 30 minutes, then at the medium level for another 30 minutes and at the minimum for the remaining hour.
  • Intensive sterilization: The program operating time is 4 hours, while the humidifier operates at maximum intensity.

After the sterilization program is completed, the humidifier returns to standard operating mode.

Operation

Before using the Redmond HF2202 humidifier, you must unpack it. Make sure you remove the porous gasket that secures the float in the working chamber and remove all stickers except the serial number and date plate.

The humidifier should be installed on a hard, flat surface, avoiding directing steam at wallpaper, decorative coverings, electronic devices and other items that may be damaged by excess moisture. Do not place Redmond HF2202 near heating devices or on heated floors.

Use only clean cold water (from +10 to +40 °C) to operate the device. If you use tap water, let it settle for 24 hours. Do not add cleaning agents, aromatic oils or perfumes to the tank.

After installing the air purifier, you can rotate the diffuser on the top panel 360° to direct the air flow in the desired direction.

The device has three operating modes: standard, night, and automatic.

In automatic mode, the humidification intensity is regulated by a built-in hygrometer. If the humidity level is below 45%, the device operates at maximum power, and when it reaches 55%, at minimum. The indicator in the form of two drops changes color from white to blue depending on the level of humidification.

In night mode, the control panel backlight turns off, and the humidification intensity is reduced to the minimum level.

The standard mode allows you to manually adjust the humidification level.

At maximum power, the noise emitted by the device is very low, which makes it suitable for use in the bedroom, even for people with sensitive sleep.

The humidifier is equipped with an electrolysis sterilizer. In the appropriate mode, tiny bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen are formed on the grid, which saturate the water and prevent the proliferation of harmful bacteria and single-celled algae.

When the water level in the tank becomes low, the humidifier activates a warning signal on the control panel and automatically switches to sleep mode.

During normal operation, the LED lamp illuminates the control panel with white light, and switches to blue when sterilization is turned on.

Care

Before cleaning, be sure to unplug the humidifier and drain the water from the tank and the working chamber.

The body can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth or sponge, using a delicate cleaning agent if necessary. To avoid streaks and stains, the body should be wiped dry.

Rinse the tank with clean running water.

Clean the emitter membrane with a soft brush. Do not use sharp or hard objects to avoid damaging the device and reducing its performance.

To remove mineral deposits, it is recommended to use a citric acid solution (15 g per 200 ml of water). Pour the solution into the working chamber, leave for 15 minutes, then remove the deposits with a soft-bristled brush or cloth. After draining the solution, wipe the base dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use rough cloths, sponges, abrasives or chemically active substances when cleaning.

Our measurements

Power consumption depends on the selected humidification mode.

Working hoursIIIIII
Power, W12.015.720.4

Sterilization increases energy consumption by 12.8 W. In standby mode, the humidifier consumes less than 0.1 W.

The noise emitted by the device is about 34 dBA and does not depend on the power level, which makes the Redmond HF2200 quite quiet.

A full tank, filled to the brim, holds 3905 ml of water, and the working chamber — 490 ml.

The maximum performance of the humidifier, measured in our tests, was about 366 ml / h.

Practice tests

To evaluate the efficiency of the humidifier in real conditions and check its main modes, as well as the duration of operation on one refill, we conducted testing in a room of about 18 m² with a ceiling height of 2.5 m and windows facing south. The test took place in hot June in St. Petersburg, when the relative humidity in the room was high and the central heating was turned off.

Although household humidifiers are usually designed to work in dry rooms in winter, when heating devices are on, editorial restrictions did not allow us to conduct the test in the fall. Nevertheless, we tried to evaluate the work of the Redmond HF2202 in these difficult conditions.

To minimize the influence of external factors, we tightly closed the doors and windows, thoroughly ventilated the room between tests and measured the temperature and humidity in automatic mode, while there were no people or animals in the room.

Maximum humidification power

Having turned on the humidifier at maximum power, we left it in the test room and waited for the signal about the water running out in the tank. The measurement results are presented in the graph below.

Working at maximum intensity, the Redmond HF2202 increased the relative humidity in the room to 99% in nine hours, after which it continued to work for another four hours until the tank was completely empty.

Although the achieved figures are not ideal for a living space, the first experiment demonstrated the excellent performance of the device.

Result: excellent

Maximum humidification power with air dehumidification

The previous result can be improved. At high air humidity, the performance of the ultrasonic humidifier is significantly reduced. To do this, it is necessary to artificially reduce the humidity in the room.

After we thoroughly dried the room, we repeated the experiment, running the humidifier at maximum power. This time, the Kitfort KT-2843 dehumidifier, also set to maximum power, worked simultaneously with the humidifier.

In this test, the Redmond HF2202 successfully coped with the dehumidifier: over the course of twelve hours, the relative humidity in the room gradually increased, reaching 60% by the time the tank was empty.

Over 12 hours of operation, the humidifier released 4395 ml of water into the air, which corresponds to a performance of about 366 ml/h. This value turned out to be significantly higher than stated in the technical specifications.

Result: excellent

Conclusions

The Redmond HF2202 ultrasonic humidifier has shown good performance and excellent economy. The low noise level makes it ideal for use in the bedroom: the device will not disturb even people with sensitive sleep.

The Redmond HF2202 humidifier effectively maintains the optimum humidity level in the room thanks to the built-in hygrostat, preventing over-humidification. Additionally, the device is equipped with a water sterilizer, which prevents the proliferation of harmful microorganisms.

The main disadvantage is the lack of a display, which makes the data from the hygrometer inaccessible to the user. To control the humidity and temperature in the room, an external sensor will be required. How significant a disadvantage this is, each user decides.

Pros:

  • Simple design
  • Easy water filling
  • Automatic mode
  • Simple and convenient control
  • Built-in hygrometer

Cons:

  • No display with humidity and temperature information
