The more people start using high-quality orthopedic mattresses, the higher the probability of specialized devices for their care. We have already encountered vacuum cleaners designed specifically for mattresses several times.

Equipment

The vacuum cleaner arrived for testing in a small white box with full-color printing. The packaging is equipped with a handle for convenience.

On the front and back sides of the packaging, the manufacturer has placed a large image of the device, and on the top side, there are photos of it in operation with brief explanations. All information on the box is presented in English.

Having opened the package, we found inside:

  • the vacuum cleaner itself with a dust collector
  • a replaceable fine filter
  • user manual
  • a cleaning device

At first sight

The body is made in a gray-silver range, against which the cherry-colored lid of the waste container stands out. Thanks to the successful choice of colors, the device looks solid and attractive.

Our unit is a corded version of the Jimmy BD7 Pro upholstery vacuum cleaner we recently reviewed. Both models have a similar design, identical dust collector design with a cyclone filter, and a brush for cleaning mattresses.

For comparison, we have posted photos of both devices taken from the same angle. The BX6 has a slightly modified case design — it is slightly longer and, of course, does not have a battery compartment. Despite all our efforts, we did not find any other external differences.

Like most specialized mattress vacuum cleaners, the Jimmy BX6 Pro has a monoblock design: the motor part and the nozzle are one piece. The front part contains a rotary brush driven by an electric motor, and the main engine is located in the center of the body. There is an air outlet grill on the right side.

The dust collector is on the upper side of the engine block. The manufacturer has placed a sticker with brief maintenance instructions underneath it.

The dust container consists of two cylinders. The air flow with dirt enters the compartment with a cyclone filter, where it swirls around the central element.

Large and heavy waste falls into the second container with a hinged lid for easy emptying. The outer part of the cyclone is covered with a steel mesh with fine perforation, on which the medium fraction settles. Very fine dust is retained by a HEPA filter in the shape of a truncated cone.

The rotor of the electric brush rotates in the front part of the T-shaped sole. Closer to the center is the bactericidal emitter unit, consisting of three ultraviolet LEDs. According to the manufacturer, the built-in UV sterilizer effectively destroys 99.9% of pathogenic bacteria, has a detrimental effect on dust mites and destroys most allergens.

There are two movable rollers to the right and left of the UV emitter. They not only facilitate sliding on upholstered furniture, but also serve as surface sensors, turning off the ultraviolet when the vacuum cleaner is raised above the mattress. This is how vision protection from harmful radiation is implemented.

The rotary brush has two rows of medium-hard synthetic bristles and two silicone lamellas that knock dust and microparticles out of the soft surface.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a simple cleaning device. It consists of a brush, a comb for cleaning the HEPA filter, and a blade that is convenient for cutting hair and threads that have wound around the rotor.

Instructions

The user manual is a 56-page booklet printed on thick paper with excellent printing quality.

The manual is written in seven European languages, including Russian. The Russian-language part of the document takes up nine pages and contains many easy-to-read diagrams and illustrations.

The brochure describes the vacuum cleaner's structure, its preparation for operation, operation and maintenance. The document ends with a list of possible malfunctions with recommendations for their independent elimination, a list of technical characteristics and a basic diagram of the device.

Management

The vacuum cleaner is controlled by two buttons on the handle. The first one turns the device on and off, the second one changes the operating modes.

Jimmy BX6 Pro has three programs, which differ in the functions activated.

By default, the vacuum cleaner includes suction, surface cleaning with an electric brush, UV treatment and ionization. The first press of the «Mode» button turns off UV radiation, the second stops the electric brush and turns on the UV. The ionization and suction functions are active all the time.

A small oval display on the top panel shows the selected power and active functions (suction, cleaning, UV treatment and ionization).

The coloured border of the screen informs about the degree of contamination of the surface being treated.

Blue color corresponds to minimal pollution, yellow to medium pollution, and red to heavy pollution.

Exploitation

Before using the device, unpack it, remove any shipping materials and protective stickers.

The vacuum cleaner fits comfortably in your hand and is easy to use: just turn it on and, pressing firmly, move it over the surface to be treated — a mattress, pillow, blanket, carpet or sofa.

By default, the device activates all four functions: suction, cleaning with an electric brush, UV radiation and ionization. If necessary, you can turn off the rotation of the brush or UV radiation by pressing the «Mode» button. Unlike the battery version, our device does not have the ability to adjust the suction power — the power is always maximum.

The ultraviolet lamp turns on only when the device is pressed tightly to the surface being treated with both movable rollers. If at least one of the rollers is raised, UV treatment stops, which protects the user's eyesight from possible exposure to ultraviolet rays.

After using the vacuum on our seemingly clean double mattress, two pillows and a blanket, we were very surprised by what was in the dust container. Take a look at the photo to see how it made us feel.

The design of the dust collector turned out to be very effective: a significant portion of the dirt, swirling together with the air around the cyclone element in the first cylinder, is thrown into the second. Dust and fluff form balls, probably containing the remains of dust mites.

The steel mesh that acts as a pre-filter is almost free of debris.

The conical filter stays clean even after intensive cleaning, thanks to the efficient design of the dual-chamber cyclone. We rate the filtration quality of the Jimmy BX6 Pro as excellent.

Care

The manufacturer recommends emptying the dust container after each use.

The roller brush should be checked regularly for tangled hair and threads and cleaned if necessary using the blade included in the cleaning kit.

The dust container body can be washed with water, but it must be thoroughly dried before reinstalling. It is not recommended to wash the HEPA filter; it should be cleaned by tapping or using a regular vacuum cleaner.

Our measurements

The vacuum cleaner's power consumption depends on the operating mode. With the electric brush and UV emitter turned on, the vacuum cleaner consumes an average of 261 W. Turning off the electric brush reduces consumption by about 11 W, and the UV emitter consumes about 2 W. Thus, the actual power is significantly lower than the declared 600 W.

Suction power measurements were not carried out due to the design features of the body, but it can be argued that it will also be significantly lower than the passport data — it is physically impossible to achieve an efficiency higher than 100 percent.

The noise during operation of the device is 73 dBA with the electric brush turned on and 71 dBA with it turned off, which makes the Jimmy BX6 Pro noticeably quieter than its battery-powered counterpart.

conclusions

The Jimmy BX6 Pro vacuum cleaner effectively maintains cleanliness in your home when cleaning mattresses, pillows, upholstered furniture and carpets. Its excellent filtration system and built-in UV emitter make it a powerful tool for combating dust and mites.

The Jimmy BX6 Pro left us with a positive impression, similar to the experience of using the recently tested cordless model.

When choosing between a corded and a battery-powered device, it should be taken into account that the presence of an electric cord can limit maneuverability. However, a corded vacuum cleaner provides unlimited operating time at maximum power, which increases the efficiency of cleaning large volumes. In addition, the corded model costs one and a half times less than the cordless one.

Laboratory measurements showed that the noise during operation of the corded device is significantly lower than that of the cordless BD7 Pro, which also speaks in favor of the corded version.

Although we did not find any significant shortcomings in the operation of the device, we were a little disappointed that the power consumption of the vacuum cleaner turned out to be significantly lower than the declared 600 W — more than twice.

Pros:

  • easy operation
  • effective filtration system
  • ultraviolet treatment and ionization
  • low price
  • relatively low noise level

Cons:

  • the power consumption of the vacuum cleaner turned out to be significantly lower than the rated one
