Review of hair dryer Evolution EvoDry Pro

22.05.2024 08:39

The Evolution EvoDry Pro hair dryer is positioned as a budget device suitable for both home and professional use, according to the manufacturer. Despite the low price, the hair dryer has significant power, ionization function and three-stage temperature control. In our review, we will look at its pros and cons, and also tell you how this device managed to surprise us.

Equipment

The Evolution EvoDry Pro hair dryer comes in a nice box made of durable cardboard with matte lamination and high-quality full-color printing.

On the edges of the packaging there is a company logo, the full name of the model, color photographs of the device, pictograms with the main characteristics, a list of technical data and information about the manufacturer.

Inside the package were a hair dryer and a concentrator, each in a separate plastic bag, as well as instructions.

At first sight

The hairdryer has a nice cover made of matte, non-marking dark blue plastic with small black inserts. Its cylindrical body, tapering towards the nozzle, is made in a classic style.

The slightly curved handle has the same diameter along its entire length, so the hair dryer fits comfortably in your hand and does not slip out.

Mechanical controls, including a button and a pair of switches, are located on the inside of the handle.

The 1.8 m long power cord at the point of attachment to the handle is protected from kinks by a casing made of durable rubber. There is a loop for easy hanging.

The body of the hair dryer is quite heavy — excluding the cord, it weighs as much as 660 g. The length of the body is also significant — without a nozzle it is almost 23.5 cm, and with a concentrator nozzle another 6.5 cm is added.

The included hub is standard. The length of the air outlet hole is 8.2 cm, width is 7 mm.

The part is screwed tightly into the nozzle and securely fixed to the body. It rotates around the nozzle with some effort, does not scroll or slide arbitrarily.

The outlet nozzle is narrow — the air exits through a hole with a diameter of 4.5 cm. The hole is protected by narrow thin panels, under which there are plates with a fixed heating element.

The air intake hole is protected from hair or large debris by a filter — a metal grille with perforations in the form of a honeycomb.

The filter can be removed, but the operation requires noticeable effort. The protruding plastic part doesn't really help.

The build quality and execution of all elements of the hair dryer are neat. The device looks good, we did not find any visual defects.

Instructions

The instructions for the hair dryer are presented in the form of a small 16-page A6 brochure, printed on high-quality glossy paper and designed in the brand’s corporate style.

The manual gradually introduces the user to the device of the hair dryer, the rules of operation, management and care for it. The text is small and easy to read, although the font is very small.

However, the operation of the hair dryer is clear even without instructions, and the operating rules are so simple that most likely, if you need to read the document, then at most once.

Control

Control is carried out by two switches and one button located on the inside of the handle — in the usual and most convenient place for the user.

Evolution EvoDry Pro is equipped with two air supply levels and three temperature settings. To activate the “Cold Air” mode while drying your hair, you must hold the corresponding button pressed.

Exploitation

First, we took the hair dryer out of the box, took it out of the package and plugged in the cord. The cord is long enough for use in a standard apartment. Although it doesn't have a swivel attachment, I didn't have any issues with tangling while drying.

At the beginning of operation there was a slight specific smell, which completely disappeared after a couple of uses.

The body of the hair dryer turned out to be heavier than we would like, but the hand did not have time to get too tired, since drying happened really quickly. When styling and pulling hair with a concentrator, the situation is different. There are no problems with short hair, but with long hair the weight of the device may be less comfortable. For example, to dry thick hair up to the shoulder blades (40-45 cm) it took us on average up to 5 minutes. Most of the time we used the maximum temperature, then medium, and finished the styling with a cold blow. The blowing power was always set to maximum.

The hairdryer control is convenient. The switches and the cold blow button are tight enough not to be triggered by accidental touch, but also do not require much force to press.

Switching between modes occurs instantly, without delay. Cold air and the first temperature regime do not differ in sensations and measurements. The air at maximum temperature is comfortable and does not burn the scalp. After drying, the strands remain soft, shiny and do not become electrified.

Care

The body of the hair dryer, unplugged and cooled down, can be wiped with a soft cloth. The air intake grille should be removed periodically and cleaned with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Immersing the device in water or placing it under running water is strictly prohibited. It is also not recommended to use abrasive and chemically aggressive products.

Our measurements

Measurements and calculations of the performance of the Evolution EvoDry Pro hair dryer were carried out using a wattmeter, a thermometer and an anemometer with an impeller, which measures the speed of the air flow passing through the hair dryer.

Cold air25 °C26°C

Medium heat521 W1003 W
Maximum heating1359 W1832 W

The calculation method and experimental conditions for measuring volumetric air flow (the number of liters of air passed by a hairdryer per second) are described in our previous articles, for example, here.

After measurements and calculations, we received the following results:

  • In the minimum blowing power mode, the hair dryer passes 22 l/s.
  • In maximum blowing power mode — 26 l/s.

Energy consumption for 5 minutes of operation is:

  • For minimum air flow power with minimum temperature — 0.005 kWh.
  • For maximum flow power with maximum temperature — 0.160 kWh.

The operating noise of the device is rated as average for hair dryers of this type. The maximum noise level measured at a distance of 1 meter was 78 dBA.

The test for overheating protection is carried out as follows: the hair dryer is placed in a cardboard box corresponding in size to the dimensions of the device, turned on at maximum speed, the box is closed with a lid, and the time is recorded before the hair dryer turns off.

In this test, the box was not completely closed — the cable casing and the power cable itself were sticking out of the box. After 28 seconds the hairdryer turned off. The body of the hair dryer became significantly hot — its surface temperature averaged about 65-70 °C, and closer to the air intake vent — 88 °C. The hair dryer did not turn on immediately after the protection was triggered. After about 2 minutes, a slight click was heard in the body, after which we turned on the hair dryer and made sure that it was working again.

conclusions

Considering the device's price category, we didn't have much hope for it. However, according to our measurements, the air flow rate of the Evolution EvoDry Pro hair dryer was noticeably higher than that of many more expensive devices.

Hair dries quickly and without excessive dehydration and electrification thanks to the optimal temperature range and the presence of ionization. This makes the Evolution EvoDry Pro suitable for a variety of hair types without worrying about possible damage.

The advantages of the device include a reliable overheating protection system, a long cord and an affordable price. The only thing you can pay attention to is the size and weight of the case. The hair dryer is not the most compact, and when drying and styling long hair, it can cause fatigue in your hand.

Pros:

  • high air flow power
  • 3 temperature modes and ionization
  • Automatic shutdown function when overheating
  • concentrator nozzle included
  • cord length 1.8 m

Minuses:

  • Dimensions and weight are quite large
