During the reign of the Messengers, who reigned between 626-858/1229-1454, Yemen achieved unprecedented political and social stability. This stability was also strongly reflected in the state economy. Indeed, by taking control of the ports of Aden and Shihr, which were strategically important for the Red Sea-Indian Ocean trade, the Messengers gained great wealth and gained interregional influence. Thanks to Aden, which was an international port city in particular, the Messengers became one of the leading states of the period in maritime trade. The Messengers, who played an important role in international trade by controlling the port of Aden, established strong trade-based relations with countries such as India, China, Abyssinia and Egypt. During this period, the state became considerably wealthy with the large revenues it obtained from domestic and foreign trade. This situation also provided a great improvement in the living conditions of the people, allowing them to live a more comfortable and prosperous life. The political and economic stability provided by the Messengers also paved the way for great developments in architecture in Yemen. During the time of the Messengers, who were members of the Shafi'i school of thought, the construction of madrasahs and mosques in Yemen gained great momentum. The madrasahs built during this period contributed to the spread of Shafi'ism and the development of scientific activities in Yemen.
