Marco Polo Silk Road

Merchants coming to Venice from the East speak of mysterious lands and peoples, stormy seas and deserts where bandits rule. While listening to these stories, seventeen-year-old Marco Polo dreams of joining his father Niccolò and uncle Matteo, who set out for the East when he was still a child. The “journey of journeys” takes place in 1271: Niccolò and Matteo return from China to deliver the oil of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and one hundred envoys from the Pope to Kublai Khan. The trio set off from Venice and reach Palestine, then Georgia, Armenia, Iran and Afghanistan. They cross the deserts of Uyghuristan, trading, and reach the heart of the Chinese Empire, where Marco Polo gains the trust of the Great Khan and becomes one of the most powerful envoys in the world.
