First look at the Realme GT 6 smartphone

02.07.2024 10:53

Realme GT 6 is the company's new flagship smartphone, which has become the manufacturer's most technologically advanced device this year. The international presentation will take place on June 20 in Milan, and that's when prices for the global version will be announced. It is especially interesting that this device will be officially available on the Russian market. According to the company's marketers, Realme GT 6 will be able to compete with smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Xiaomi 14.

The first device in the GT series, Realme GT 5G, was introduced in 2021 and immediately received the nickname “Flagship Killer 2021” from journalists. Thus, the series got its start. A year after the launch of the latest model in the series, Realme GT 3, Realme CEO Sky Lee announced the return of the much-awaited GT series in an interview with Forbes, noting that the new Realme GT 6 series will surpass its predecessors and break the traditional limitations in the performance of flagship devices. He emphasized that users can expect the perfect combination of modern AI solutions and advanced technologies, making the new product the new “AI flagship killer.”

The design of the new GT series model has become even more calm and restrained compared to its predecessors. The smartphone looks solid, expensive and laconic, without unnecessary decorations. There are no protruding round elements or squares on the rear panel; All lenses are located separately from each other, which visually simplifies the design and makes it less bulky. The area with lenses and flash is decorated with a mirror strip, in which you can even see your reflection if you wish.

As for materials, not everything is so simple. The front glass is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, one of the toughest materials for smartphone displays. However, the side frame is questionable.

The side frame is not made of real metal, but of plastic painted with matte silver paint. As for the back panel, it is unknown whether it is made of real glass or plastic that imitates glass.

Nevertheless, the device lies comfortably in the hand, does not slip and is practically not covered with fingerprints. In terms of dimensions and weight, it is well balanced: quite thin, weighs less than 200 grams, the edges are narrowed, but not completely rounded. In general, in terms of ergonomics it is difficult to find fault with it, with the exception of the curved edges of the screen, which are of no use and only get in the way.

Realme GT 6 launched in two colors — green and silver (Green Mist and Mirror Silver).

Screen

The Realme GT 6 smartphone comes with a stunning display: the 8T series uses LTPO technology, which uses artificial intelligence to adapt the refresh rate and save up to 20% energy. The AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.78 inches and a resolution of 1264×2780 is protected by glass with curved edges. Marketers claim a maximum brightness of 6000 nits, but such values are achieved under special conditions. In reality, the maximum brightness is lower, but still very high. In practice, the screen remains clearly visible even in bright sunlight outside at the height of summer.

For a more immersive content viewing and gaming experience, Realme GT 6 features HDR and Pro-XDR technologies to provide a wider range of colors and brightness levels for a more life-like image. The smartphone supports dynamic refresh rate up to 120Hz and PWM dimming at 2160Hz. Also mentioned is AI Eye-Protection technology, which helps reduce eye strain.

Cameras

The Realme GT 6 smartphone is equipped with three full-featured rear cameras: main, telephoto and wide-angle:

  • Main camera: 50 MP, Sony LYT-808 sensor, 1/1.4″, pixel size 1.12 microns, f/1.69 aperture, focal length 26 mm, support for PDAF and Super OIS.
  • Telephoto camera: 50 MP, 1/2.8″, pixel size 0.64 microns, f/2.0 aperture, focal length 47 mm, 2× optical zoom.
  • Wide-angle camera: 8 MP, 1/4.0″, pixel size 1.12 µm, f/2.2 aperture, focal length 16 mm, viewing angle 112˚.

The main camera is equipped with a top-end Sony LYT-808 sensor with a resolution of 50 megapixels and support for Super OIS. This is the largest sensor that Realme has used in its smartphones. In terms of image processing, DOL-HDR, LBMF and Dual Native ISO technologies are used. Judging by the first test shots, the camera shoots at a very high level, both in good light and in the dark. We'll look at this in more detail in a full review.

The second camera is equipped with a Samsung JN5 sensor (1/2.8 inches, 0.64 micron pixel size) with a resolution of 50 megapixels, which provides 2x optical zoom. Also mentioned is 4x “intra-sensory” zoom (hybrid). The ultra-wide-angle module is based on a Sony IMX355 sensor with a resolution of 8 megapixels. The front camera uses a Sony IMX615 sensor with a resolution of 32 MP and supports video recording in 4K resolution.

Performance

Realme GT 6 was one of the first to receive the sub-flagship SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen3, manufactured on a 4nm process technology (TSMC). This platform is a stripped-down version of the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen3. In the AnTuTu 9 test, the smartphone scored about 1200 thousand points, which is an impressive result.

With powerful performance, Realme GT 6 delivers lightning-fast response times, smooth multitasking, and smooth gaming even at maximum settings. For example, the smartphone allows you to run PUBG at 120 frames per second, and Genshin Impact can be played at 1.5K resolution for the first time.

Realme GT 6 features an advanced super-performance Cortex-X4 core, a graphics core for all applications and games, the most advanced ISP for image processing, and a dedicated Hexagon NPU for neural network operations with 10 billion parameters executed directly on the device. The Iceberg Vapor Cooling System with an evaporation chamber area of more than 100 cm² ensures efficient heat dissipation and stable operation.

The smartphone supports Geek Power Tuning processor performance settings, which allows you to flexibly adjust the frequencies of the main CPU cores and graphics core. This allows you to overclock them for games with high performance requirements or limit them to save energy and increase battery life. An additional chip for encrypting confidential data ensures reliable protection of user information.

More possibilities with AI

A new stage in the evolution of smartphones now involves the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This year, all leading manufacturers, including Realme, are paying maximum attention to this topic. The Realme GT 6 series has received a number of AI functions:

  • AI Smart Loop automatically recognizes content on the screen and allows you to transfer text, images or files to other applications in just one step. Just pull the object in the desired direction, and the smartphone will offer options for sending through the drum spinner with a choice of options.
  • AI Night Vision mode improves the quality of frames taken in low light.
  • In addition, AI is used to optimize screen images, protect eyesight, increase smartphone and battery life, and optimize performance depending on the tasks being performed.

Bottom line

Along with the flagship model Realme GT 6, a simplified version of Realme GT 6T will be launched. Both smartphones promise many interesting features. Realme GT 6 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen3 processor, Russia's first near-flagship processor, as well as the latest top-end Sony LYT-808 camera sensor. Realme GT 6T is powered by the high-performance Snapdragon 7+ Gen3 processor.

Both devices have bright and high-quality displays with the latest generation Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, high-capacity batteries (5500 mAh) for long battery life, fast charging up to 120 W and advanced AI functions. The company is confident that these “flagship killers” will set a new benchmark for performance and take their rightful place in the top-end smartphone market.
