Equipment

The vacuum cleaner arrived to us for testing in a cardboard box with full-color printing. There is little information on the packaging: the sides are decorated only with color images of the device.

Having opened the box, inside we found:

  • The vacuum cleaner itself with a cyclone filter installed
  • metal extension tube
  • floor nozzle
  • 2-in-1 brush attachment
  • crevice tool
  • mount for non-motorized attachments
  • wall mount with hanging hardware
  • user guide

At first sight

The body of the Evolution LX900 vacuum cleaner is decorated in red and white and is made of smooth plastic.

A corded vacuum cleaner, such as the Evolution LX900, has a layout similar to cordless models. The manufacturer probably used a device with a built-in battery and replaced it with an AC transformer to connect to the outlet.

This is also indicated by three holes in the base of the device: in the battery version of the vacuum cleaner there was definitely a battery charge indicator.

The Evolution LX900 vacuum cleaner has a transverse layout: the garbage container with a cyclone filter is located perpendicular to the air flow. The motor unit is located above the garbage disposal cylinder, and the HEPA outlet element is located under a separate cover at the top.

The hole for connecting the extension tube and attachments is equipped with a two-pin socket that provides power to the motor brush.

A hinged lid at the end of the waste container makes it easy to shake out the contents without getting your hands dirty.

The elements entering the debris form a vortex around the central cyclonic element. Large and heavy parts remain at the bottom of the container, while light parts pass through a finely perforated steel grid. A conical HEPA element of class H12, protected by an additional porous gasket, is responsible for filtering dust.

Under the top cover there is another filter — the exhaust filter. According to the manufacturer’s information, its design uses a HEPA element of a lower class than the main one: H8.

Inside the metal extension tube (its length is 630 mm) there are wires that power the electric brush.

The articulated design of the motorized floor brush allows it to flex from 0° to 90° back and forth and up to 60° to the right and left. The top of the rotor compartment is covered with a transparent plastic cover that allows you to observe the rotation of the element.

Four bright white LEDs at the front of the brush illuminate the work area.

The plastic rotor is equipped with two brush elements, which are arranged in a spiral. On the sides and behind it there are sealing brushes that make it easier to slide along the floor and ensure a good fit of the nozzle to the surface.

The vacuum cleaner comes with two non-motorized attachments: a 2-in-1 brush and a crevice nozzle. The accessories have a traditional design without any noticeable innovations.

Both attachments can be attached to the extension tube using the included clip, so they are always at hand.

You can use a simple wall mount to store the vacuum cleaner. It comes with two plastic dowels and a pair of screws.

Instructions

The instruction manual is a 16-page A5 brochure printed on thick white paper.

The instructions contain many illustrations that explain the structure of the vacuum cleaner, the rules for its use and care. The last pages of the brochure are intended for the marks of the seller and the service center, making it at the same time a warranty card.

Control

The vacuum cleaner is turned on and off with a sliding button on the top of the body.

There are no other controls here: the Evolution LX900 has a single power level — maximum.

Exploitation

To start working with the vacuum cleaner, just remove it from the box, empty it from the packaging and assemble it. The simple design of the device itself and the attachments is clear without instructions: everything is intuitive at first glance.

If you plan to store the vacuum cleaner hanging, the kit includes a wall mount: everything you need for this is included in the box.

The Evolution LX900 vacuum cleaner is well balanced and fits comfortably in the hand. It is lighter than many battery-powered models we are already familiar with, which makes it easier to manage. The mobility of the floor nozzle provides excellent maneuverability and allows you to reach even the most difficult to reach areas. The low height allows the vacuum cleaner to easily pass under cabinets and sofas.

However, the attachment does not have a parking position. During pauses in cleaning, you have to lean the device on walls or other objects, which can cause it to fall and be damaged.

Illumination of the work area not only provides convenience to the user, but also increases cleaning efficiency. Low-lying light sources additionally emit dust and small debris, which is often difficult to notice with overhead lighting.

The Evolution LX900 vacuum cleaner is also convenient in a manual configuration. The attachments included in the kit are not innovative designs, but they allow you to effectively remove debris and dust in hard-to-reach places, for example, between the cushions of chairs and sofas.

However, during test operation, we noticed that the suction power of the Evolution LX900 did not seem too strong to us. Apparently, this is due to the fact that the manufacturer left the engine from the battery model in the design. Below we compare our feelings with the results of laboratory measurements.

The transparent walls of the container make it easy to control its filling.

You can shake out almost all the debris from the reservoir without getting your hands dirty, but in order to remove particles stuck between the wall and the cyclone, you will have to wear gloves and remove the central element.

The micro-perforated mesh does its job well: very little fine dust reaches the pre-filter made of non-woven material.

Most of it remains on the pre-filter, while relatively little remains on the HEPA element.

Even after several intensive cleanings, the inner surface of the fine filter remains snow-white.

There are no visible traces of dirt on the exhaust filter. We rate the overall filtration quality of the Evolution LX900 as excellent.

Care

The vacuum cleaner body can be easily cleaned by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth and then with a dry cloth when dirty.

It is recommended that you regularly inspect the floor brush rotor for dirt and to remove any entangled threads, hair, or pet hair. If cleaning is necessary, the nozzle can be disassembled. However, it must be remembered that it should not be immersed in water, and the rotor should be installed in place only after it has completely dried.

The manufacturer reminds you of the importance of emptying the dust container when it is full or there is a noticeable decrease in suction power.

It is recommended to change the HEPA inlet filter at least once a year or every 50 hours of operation. The exhaust filter requires no maintenance.

Our measurements

We present the mass measurements of the main components of the vacuum cleaner in the table:

Weight, g
Main unit with dust collector, filter and wire1470
Extension tube260
Floor nozzle with electric brush560
2-in-1 brush attachment45
Crevice nozzle35

In the maximum configuration (with the main unit, extension tube and floor nozzle), the vacuum cleaner weighs 2290 g, and in the minimum configuration — 1505 g.

We measured the suction power when operating the vacuum cleaner without a pipe and nozzles. The graph of the dependence of suction power on the created vacuum is presented below:

We measured the vacuum's suction power at 32.6 watts. The maximum power consumption during test operation was 493 W, which corresponds to a level typical for inexpensive battery models. However, higher power was expected from a wired device.

The efficiency of the device, calculated as the ratio of suction power to power consumption from the network, is about 6.7%.

The noise level with the floor electric brush installed is 88 dBA, which is quite high. Turning off the electric brush does not have a significant effect on the noise level, but it may slightly change its tone. Overall, the Evolution LX900 is louder than many classic floor vacuum cleaners.

Let's summarize our measurements in one table:

Maximum suction power32.6 aW
Maximum power consumption493 W
Efficiency6.7%
Noise levelup to 88 dBA
Weight in floor configuration2290 g
Weight in minimum configuration1505 g
