If an upright vacuum cleaner sweeps and mops effectively, fits comfortably in your hand, has powerful suction power, lasts a long time on a single battery charge, and comes with a rich set of attachments and accessories, we consider it an excellent choice.

^* Contrary to popular belief, this is not a period after which the device will necessarily break down. However, after this period, the manufacturer ceases to bear any responsibility for its functionality and has the right to refuse to repair it, even for a fee.

The vacuum cleaner is packed in a white cardboard box with full-color printing. On one side of the box there is a large photo of the vacuum cleaner in floor cleaning mode, and on the other side there are images of the device in operation.

The top cover of the package contains information about the warranty period. Looking ahead, it is worth noting a small inaccuracy: the user manual says three years, while the box says two years.

The Swiss origin of the brand is also emphasized here (Polaris marketers always mention that their products undergo European quality control). Pay attention to the schematic image of a smartphone with a running branded application. Yes, this vacuum cleaner can be controlled using a mobile phone.

Inside the box were found:

• a rotary brush for soft surfaces;
• a module for wet cleaning;
• an electric brush for furniture;

• an extension tube;

The Polaris PVCS 4070 WiFi IQ Home package is quite diverse: in addition to the standard floor brush and three non-motorized attachments, the set includes an additional rotor for carpets, a module for wet cleaning and an electric brush for furniture. However, consumables are not included.

The vacuum cleaner body is made of modern and practical matte white plastic, which has become popular among designers and manufacturers of household appliances in recent years. The device has no unnecessary decorations, except for the relief protrusion on the motor block and the manufacturer's logo, which gives it a strict but attractive appearance.

The large D-shaped handle allows you to hold the vacuum cleaner by the top or the back. The first method will be more convenient in a handheld configuration, and the second — when cleaning the floor.

Polaris PVCS 4070 WiFi IQ Home has a longitudinal design: a cylindrical cyclone filter is placed parallel to the air flow. Air with dust and debris, passing through the motor unit, turns 180° and swirls inside the container.

The engine is located in the central part of the device, behind it are the exhaust grilles and the removable battery. The exhaust air comes out of the vacuum cleaner on the right side, perpendicular to the main air flow. This arrangement does not interfere with the user and does not raise dust from areas that have not yet been cleaned.

The round battery plugs into the back of the case. The Polaris PVCS 4070 comes with a 3000 mAh lithium battery, which, according to official data, provides up to 80 minutes of continuous operation.

The cylindrical waste container made of transparent plastic is closed with an end cap, allowing you to empty the container without getting your hands dirty.

The air flow with dust and debris enters the cylinder, swirling around the central element. Heavier and larger particles are thrown off by the plastic «skirt» and remain at the bottom of the container, and small ones are retained on a steel mesh with microperforation. The remaining dust that passes through this barrier settles on the preliminary filter made of black foam rubber. Behind it is a fine disc filter, which is conveniently removed with a steel handle. Information about the class of the HEPA filter used in the design is not specified by the manufacturer.

The motorized floor cleaning nozzle has a smooth, flexible hinge that allows it to bend 60° to the right and left and from 0° to 90° forward and backward.

The nozzles are powered via two-pin connectors with different geometry. The floor and furniture nozzles can be connected directly to the motor unit, but the furniture nozzle cannot be connected to the extension tube due to the incompatibility of the connectors. Probably, the manufacturer decided that the user will not need to use a small electric brush with a tube.

The user manual is a 44-page A5 brochure printed on thick glossy paper.

The vacuum cleaner is controlled by two buttons on the D-shaped handle. The first one turns the device on and off, the second one is used to switch operating modes.

Polaris PVCS 4070 has three power levels: minimum, medium and maximum. When switched on, the device starts at minimum speed, and by pressing the «I II III» button you can increase the suction power. The third press activates the automatic mode, in which the vacuum cleaner independently adjusts the power depending on the degree of surface contamination.

A small black plastic display located next to the control buttons shows the current battery level and the selected mode. Error messages are not displayed on the display: in the event of a malfunction, information will be transmitted via the mobile application.

Unlike most cordless vacuum cleaners, this device can be controlled via a smartphone. For this purpose, the manufacturer offers the IQ Home app, which unites Polaris smart technology into a single ecosystem.

The developers have added a demo mode that allows you to virtually familiarize yourself with the functionality and capabilities of any supported device before purchasing. For full use, registration with confirmation of a phone number or email is required. Authorization through Google services is also available.

When you click the «Add device» button on the main screen, the pairing mode is launched. The program tries to automatically detect the device, but in our case it does not work, so you need to manually select PVCS-4070 from the long list of supported smart devices.

To start the pairing process, the vacuum cleaner must be placed on the base. The app asks for data to connect to your network. Then you need to wait about half a minute until a message about successful configuration appears, after which you can assign a friendly name to the device and specify its location.

The main screen displays the battery level, the current cleaning time, and the selected power level. The signature round slider allows you to change the operating mode via your smartphone — we have already seen a similar control element in Polaris humidifiers and air purifiers, where it was quite useful. However, in the case of a vacuum cleaner, this function seems less convenient, since it is easier to use the physical button on the body during cleaning.

The lower part of the screen is designed to display the cleaning history, but during our tests, no records appeared.

The error message is also displayed when trying to open the history page. We observed this problem with both our vacuum cleaner and the virtual one available in the demo mode of the application.

On the settings page, you can set the name and location of the device, view the status of consumables (for example, a HEPA filter), check and update the firmware version, get information about the use of the device, and read the electronic version of the manual.

The fine filter resource is, according to the application, about 60 hours of operation. After this, the consumable should be replaced, not forgetting to reset the service interval using the button in the application.

The Network Status page helps identify connection issues. Like most modern smart home devices, Polaris IQ Home is controlled via a cloud service. Without Internet access, direct control of the vacuum cleaner is impossible.

The vacuum cleaner can notify you of any malfunctions or difficulties via push notifications. The user has the option to turn off notifications for each error, set the silent mode or create a custom message.

Before using the vacuum cleaner, the manufacturer recommends removing all packaging materials and stickers, except for the serial number sticker. You should also check the package and make sure there is no damage.

After that, you need to assemble the base-stand by inserting the vertical part into the base until it clicks, and connect the power adapter.

Like any battery-powered device, the vacuum cleaner should be fully charged before first use. The initial charge can take significantly longer than subsequent charges. The manual recommends leaving the device on the base for at least 12 hours, and we followed this advice.

The current battery status is displayed on the device display to the nearest percent. When the charge level reaches 100%, the display turns off and the vacuum cleaner is ready for use.

Polaris PVCS 4070 fits comfortably in the hand and is suitable for both right- and left-handed people. The weight of the device is in the average range for its class — it is not too light, but thanks to the balanced design, cleaning in manual mode and when sweeping the floor is comfortable.

The design of the motor unit housing and the floor brush allows for effective cleaning of hard-to-reach places under sofas and cabinets along the entire length of the tube. The low profile of the vacuum cleaner allows for cleaning even under furniture with low legs.

Returning the tube to its original position is easy: just lift the vacuum cleaner slightly, and the tube straightens out under its own weight, locking with a light click.

The floor nozzle has a parking position, but its use is difficult: when the vacuum cleaner is vertical, it periodically tilts forward and falls. Apparently, the designer of the floor brush did not take these points into account in the balance of the finished product.

The illumination of the work area makes cleaning much easier: low-mounted LEDs make dust and debris visible, which are difficult to see in normal lighting. It is also useful in low-light conditions, allowing you to do without turning on additional light sources. However, in bright sunlight, the effect of the illumination is reduced, since its brightness is not always sufficient.

The wet cleaning module allows you to sweep and mop the floor at the same time, ensuring fast and effective cleaning. Although the small volume of the tank and mechanical water supply somewhat limit the effectiveness of washing, the device is perfect for quick daily cleaning.

In manual cleaning mode, the vacuum cleaner is as convenient as when sweeping: it has an acceptable weight and is well balanced. The included attachments, including an electric brush for upholstery and three non-motorized attachments, allow you to effectively cope with most tasks.

The electric upholstery brush provides deep cleaning and effectively deals with dirt that is difficult to remove with conventional attachments, such as pet hair, hair and other debris.

The hinged lid on the end allows for quick and easy emptying of the container. The successful design of the cyclone keeps large and heavy debris at the bottom, so that there is no need to remove the central element for complete cleaning.

Foam rubber, naturally, cannot completely protect against fine dust: after several cleanings, the outer surface of the HEPA filter noticeably darkened. However, the inner surface remained almost unchanged, which allows us to evaluate the overall filtration quality of Polaris PVCS 4070 as excellent.

After each use of the vacuum cleaner, it is recommended to clean the dust container and filters. Large debris can be easily removed from the container through its end part, which helps to avoid dirtying your hands thanks to the convenient design. The container is securely closed with a lid.

The HEPA filter should be cleaned by simply tapping, as contact with moisture can reduce its effectiveness.

A soft bristle brush can be used to clean the plastic housing of the cyclone filter and dust collector. The use of detergents is not recommended.

All elements of the filtration system must be completely dry before assembly.

The mobile application monitors the use of the fine filter and will promptly remind you of the need to replace it. After installing a new filter, you should reset the usage counter in the program settings.

We provide the mass measurements of the main components of the vacuum cleaner in the table:

In the dry floor cleaning configuration, which includes the main unit, battery, extension tube and floor nozzle, the vacuum cleaner weighs 3065 g. If you add a fully filled wet cleaning module, which holds 150 ml of water, the weight of the device increases to 3355 g. In the minimum configuration for manual cleaning, the vacuum cleaner weighs 1845 g.

Suction power was measured when the vacuum cleaner was operating without using a tube and nozzles, in both modes. The dependence of suction power on the created vacuum is shown in the graph below:

We measured the suction power: in the minimum mode it was 25.5 aW, on average — 44.9 aW, and in the maximum — 93.8 aW. For devices of this class, these are very good indicators.

The noise level varies depending on the selected speed and the operating mode of the nozzle. The measurement results are presented in the table.

The battery life of the vacuum cleaner also depends on the nozzle used and the selected power mode.

A fully discharged device is powered for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. The charger consumes up to 44.3 W, and a full cycle requires approximately 0.089 kWh.

This device makes it easy to keep your home tidy by performing tasks such as sweeping and mopping the floor, as well as cleaning clothes and upholstered furniture.

The wet cleaning module included in the kit allows you to dry clean hard surfaces and wipe them at the same time. An additional rotary brush ensures thorough cleaning of soft floor coverings.

A convenient extension tube with a hinge that allows you to bend the structure at a right angle makes it easier to clean under furniture, such as sofas and cabinets. A capacious 3000 mAh battery ensures long-term operation, and a powerful power supply quickly charges the battery.

The positive aspects of the device also include a mobile application that will remind the user about the need to replace the fine filter. However, not all functions of the application work perfectly: we were unable to use the vacuum cleaner usage log, as intended by the developers.

The only downside of the PVCS 4070 is the unsuccessful implementation of the parking position of the floor nozzle: during short breaks in operation, the vacuum cleaner has to be leaned against walls or furniture, which can lead to it falling.
