Review of the Arnica Solara ET13450 vertical cordless vacuum cleaner

26.02.2024 12:29

How often have you (and we, too!) been sad: here is an electric floor brush, it has two rotors — for carpets and for parquet. And as soon as you accelerate across the parquet, you see the carpet. Removing the dirty rotor again, putting a second one in its place… And then suddenly the carpet ran out.

So, we found a manufacturer who generously included two brushes in their kit! Great start. However, the Arnica Solara ET13450 offers more than just that. We will look at what else is included in the kit, how convenient the vacuum cleaning process is, and evaluate its power and noise level. As usual, we will conduct tests and share the results with you.

Equipment

The vacuum cleaner is packaged in a white cardboard box with full-color printing, equipped with a plastic handle for easy carrying.

All inscriptions on the packaging are in the manufacturer’s language. The manufacturer reports that the device is equipped with a 400 W motor and an H10 class HEPA filter, equipped with a motorized brush with light for carpets and an electric brush for furniture, and it has a parking station for charging.

Having opened the box, inside we found:

  • motor unit with dust collector and non-removable battery
  • extension tube
  • two motorized floor brushes
  • motor brush for furniture
  • corrugated tube
  • 2-in-1 brush attachment
  • slot nozzle
  • wall mount that also serves as a charging base
  • user guide

Arnica Solara provides an extensive range of accessories: the vacuum cleaner comes with two floor brushes (for soft and hard surfaces), an electrified furniture nozzle, two simple nozzles and a corrugated tube for hard-to-reach areas.

At first sight

The body of the vacuum cleaner is made of black plastic and trimmed with spectacular metallized elements.

The battery of this model is non-removable and is located at the bottom of the motor block, under the handle. For charging, there are two metal contacts in the front of the case, and under them there is a connector for direct connection of the charger.

The Arnica Solara has a transverse layout: a garbage container with a cyclone filter is located perpendicular to the air path. An electric motor is located above the traditional “pistol” type handle.

A simple control panel is located at the end of the engine compartment facing the user.

The garbage container can be quickly emptied without getting your hands dirty. For this purpose it has a hinged end cover.

The container together with the nozzle can be easily removed from the motor unit if necessary. To do this, press the silver button and turn the container approximately 20° counterclockwise.

The Arnica Solara's cyclonic filtration system remains traditional: a «skirt» at the bottom separates large debris, while dust is filtered through a cylindrical steel mesh with very fine perforations.

A fine filter of the same shape is located in the upper part of the housing. It is held in the compartment with a thick rubber gasket and can be removed without difficulty.

Arnica Solara pleasantly surprised with its equipment. Instead of including an additional rotor in the package, as most manufacturers of upright cordless vacuum cleaners do, Arnica supplies the device with two identical motor attachments. One brush head with stiff bristles is designed for cleaning carpets and rugs, while the other, with a soft velor brush, is designed for cleaning hardwood, laminate and tile.

So the user can, without getting their hands dirty, change attachments during the cleaning process, switching from soft to hard surfaces and back without losing efficiency.

The design of both brushes is exactly the same: through the transparent cover it is easy to control the rotation of the rotor, and four bright white LEDs in the front part illuminate the working area.

The third motorized nozzle is designed for upholstered furniture: sofas, armchairs and mattresses.

On its rotor there are two spiral rows of tufts of stiff bristles, designed to collect dust, hair and pet hair from furniture.

For cleaning and maintenance, the rotor is removed through a round hatch at the end of the nozzle.

Inside the metal extension tube (its length is 665 mm) there are wires to power the brushes.

The corrugated tube does not have sockets — only non-motorized attachments can be used with it.

And the two that fit it are the usual ones, we’ve seen this in many vacuum cleaners: a narrow nozzle for corners and crevices and a narrow nozzle with retractable bristles for furniture and clothes.

The Arnica Solara charging and storage base also features an original design. The motor unit is mounted on top and charged using two spring-loaded contacts. Additionally, this base has holes for storing non-motorized attachments.

The electric furniture brush can be stored in a special compartment at one of the ends of the base.

All components, including floor nozzles and corrugated tube, are easily and securely fixed in the corresponding compartments. The design of the base allows you to choose between wall and floor placement.

Instructions

The user manual is presented in the form of a 64-page A5 brochure, printed on high-quality glossy paper. The documentation contains information in three languages: Turkish, English and German. At the time of review, no Russian-language documentation was found in the kit; Perhaps the manufacturer offers to download it from the official website.

The lack of Russian-language instructions is not an obstacle to getting acquainted with the vacuum cleaner. The abundance of illustrations and diagrams explaining the structure of the device and the process of caring for it makes it easy to navigate and resolve any issues related to the operation of the device. In addition, control and operation of the vacuum cleaner are organized in an intuitive way.

Control

The vacuum cleaner is turned on and off using a traditional button on the “pistol” handle.

To adjust the suction power, there is a rocker button at the end of the motor unit. There are three modes in total. The vacuum cleaner starts at minimum speed, and using the button you can increase the power to medium or maximum.

The current operating mode is indicated by the required number of blue LEDs.

Exploitation

Before turning on the vacuum cleaner for the first time, you should choose the optimal location for its wall mounting. It is recommended to install it so that the distance between the bottom edge of the base and the floor is 90 cm.

The vacuum cleaner base can also be conveniently placed on the floor or directly connected to the DC adapter through the standard connector on the front of the motor unit.

Before the first start, you must fully charge the device's battery. A full charge cycle for the Arnica Solara takes over three hours, and the first charge may take longer, so it is recommended to leave the device on overnight.

The charge level is displayed on the end of the non-removable battery. Flashing of one, two and three blue LEDs indicates the charge level, and a constant glow indicates the vacuum cleaner is ready for use.

This model is perfectly balanced and, despite its relatively heavy weight, fits comfortably in the hand, providing effective control. The mobility of the floor nozzle makes it easy to clean narrow areas of the room, and the low height of the electric brush and the successful design of the body make cleaning under cabinets and sofas efficient and convenient.

The floor nozzle does not have a parking function. In case of breaks in cleaning, you have to place the vacuum cleaner on the floor (which can lead to inconvenience) or lean it against furniture and walls, which can entail the risk of falling and damaging the device.

Both included floor attachments exhibit predictable behavior. With their help it is convenient to clean both smooth and soft floor coverings. The user can easily switch from floor to carpet and back again without changing rotors or getting their hands dirty: just change the nozzle.

The necessity and convenience of illuminating the work area is undeniable. In this model it is present, and even small invisible debris is clearly visible in its rays, creating clear long shadows. Thus, even in low or no lighting conditions, there is no chance for dust to go unnoticed.

In manual mode, Arnica Solara performs just as well as when cleaning the floor. Despite the lack of any engineering innovations in the supplied attachments, cleaning with their use remains easy and simple.

Among the “optional” accessories is the electrified furniture nozzle, which effectively removes stubborn stains and pet hair from fabrics. The kit also includes a flexible corrugated tube, which greatly simplifies the cleaning of hard-to-reach places, for example, inside a car.

The transparent walls of the container make it easy to control its contents. This is also important because this model does not have an overflow or blockage alarm.

You can empty the trash from the tank into a bucket without getting your hands dirty. Gloves will only be needed to remove the central element of the cyclone during general cleaning.

Microperforation in the steel walls of the cyclone works perfectly: only the finest dust penetrates through the mesh. The amount of dust accumulation appears to be small, even after several intensive cleanings, and only a small amount of fine dust accumulates on the inner surface of the filter.

The HEPA filter retains its snow-white appearance even after several intensive cleanings. Overall, we rate the overall filtration quality of the Arnica Solara as excellent.

Care

The manufacturer recommends cleaning and maintenance after each use.

The waste bin container is easy to detach from the motor unit, allowing you to conveniently carry it to the trash can without the risk of spilling the contents. You can shake out dust from the container through the hinged lid at the end of the container without touching it with your hands.

It should be noted that the container cannot be washed; It is only permissible to wipe it with a damp and then dry cloth.

The manufacturer also allows wet maintenance of the HEPA filter, provided that the element is completely dry before installing it in place. The same condition applies to the effect of water on the rotating elements of electric brushes. The attachments are not washable.

Our measurements

We present the mass measurements of the main components of the vacuum cleaner in the table:

Weight, g
Main unit with dust collector, filter and battery1785
Extension tube270
Floor nozzle with electric brush615
Furniture nozzle with electric brush455
Crevice nozzle40

In the maximum configuration, including the main unit, battery, extension tube and floor nozzle, the vacuum cleaner weighs exactly 2670 g, and in the minimum configuration — 1825 g. This weight is slightly above average for devices in this class.

We measured the suction power (a description of the process and criteria is presented in the corresponding article) when using a vacuum cleaner without a pipe and nozzles in three modes. The graph below shows the dependence of suction power on the created vacuum.

The suction power we measured was 96.8 W in maximum mode, 48.7 W in average and 7.6 W in minimum mode.

When the valve is completely closed at maximum power, overheating protection is triggered and the device automatically turns off, which is shown in the blue graph.

The noise level when using a floor electric brush at maximum power is 82 dBA, at minimum — 72 dBA. Turning off the motor attachment does not significantly affect the noise level, although it does change the tone of the sound. In the most powerful mode, our vacuum cleaner is comparable in volume to its average corded counterpart.

The battery life of the device depends on the accessories used and the selected power level. Detailed data is presented in the table.

 Large electric nozzleWithout attachments
Minimum power49 minutes52 minutes
Average power18 minutes19 minutes
Maximum power9 minutes 40 seconds11 minutes

A completely discharged device “feeds” for an average of 2 hours 25 minutes. The charger consumes up to 37 W, and a full cycle requires about 0.08 kWh.

Let's summarize our measurements in one table:

Maximum suction power96.8 aW
Duration of operation at maximum power9 minutes 40 seconds
Duration of operation in manual mode52 minutes
Noise levelup to 82 dBA
Weight in floor configuration2670 g
