Equipment

The dishwasher arrived to us for testing in a large cardboard box, reinforced with nylon slings. On the top side of the package, decorated with a proprietary pattern of contrasting triangles, there are labels with technological information and manufacturer contacts.

The side panels display vector images of a dishwasher model. The manufacturer highlights the main characteristics of the device: case width — 45 cm, height-adjustable upper basket, half-load mode, capacity — 11 sets of dishes, five temperature modes, seven washing programs, three loading levels, as well as sound and light operation alarm, complete protection from overflow.

In addition to this, energy efficiency classes for washing and drying are mentioned (A++ and A, respectively), as well as the presence of a separate sprinkler for the cutlery shelf.

When unpacking the box, in addition to the dishwasher, the following components are found:

  • Inlet hose.
  • Funnel for salt.
  • A set of hardware for installing a furniture facade and a paper template for marking.
  • Bracket for drain hose.
  • User guide.
  • Quick start instructions.
  • Service book.
  • Installation instructions.
  • Energy efficiency information sticker.

At first sight

Like most built-in dishwashers, the Garlyn GDW-1045 model does not pay much attention to external design. During the entire period of operation, the device is intended for discreet placement in a kitchen unit, so there are no design delights in this model.

The door is trimmed with modest black plastic, the side walls, behind which the sound insulation is hidden, are made of thin silver metal.

The door has special holes for fastening the furniture facade. At the bottom of the housing there are two screws designed to adjust the tension of the springs. Once installed, the tension may need to be adjusted to suit the weight of the furniture panel.

The Garlyn GDW-1045 dishwasher has two baskets for dishes, and above them there is a shelf for cutlery.

The lower basket traditionally slides out along protrusions in the body and door, and the middle and upper shelves slide out on plastic rollers along telescopic guides.

The bottom of the lower basket is supported by eight rollers and allows items to be placed in two rows. The front part has fixed runners, while the back part can be used to accommodate an additional ten plates. If necessary, you can fold these guides and place one or two large pans at the bottom of the basket. There are also two small folding shelves in the back.

The metal guides in the middle basket are also divided into two groups: in the far one they fold, in the front they do not. Plastic folding shelves are on the left side of the structure.

The middle basket has two fixed positions — upper and lower. To change its height, just pull the basket up until it stops and release: the holder mechanism will automatically switch the position.

The top shelf is for cutlery. The space on the left side is reserved for long items — knives, kitchen spatulas, ladle and the like. Forks, spoons and table knives should be placed on the right.

If you need to place tall dishes in the middle basket, the right side of the cutlery rack can be moved to the center or removed altogether.

In the context of the content, in the following section: иi, оснащеной сдвижной заслонкой, предназначено хранение порошка и Tablet, Topic and Menu Sex ышкой, находится реервуар для ополаскивателя. Here is a link to the article: половинно й загрузке посуды заполняется только его глубокая часть.

The dishwasher tank is made of stainless steel. At the bottom there is a traditional filtration unit with a metal grid, which is easily removed by turning the grid plug. Next to this block is a spout for adding salt to the water softener.

On the top wall of the tank there is a spray nozzle that washes cutlery.

The metal side walls of the case are smooth, without holes or protruding parts.

The dishwasher has a corrugated drain hose. Near the point of its attachment there is a plastic water socket to which the inlet hose is connected. In this model, the inlet hose is a simple design, without a built-in AquaStop system.

Instructions

The 50-page A5 brochure is printed on thick glossy paper and contains many excellent quality diagrams and illustrations.

The manual describes in detail the process of installing a dishwasher into a kitchen unit, preparing the device for operation, as well as recommendations for operation and care. For those who prefer the information at a glance, a quick start guide sheet is also included. It briefly outlines the basic principles of machine control and also provides advice on program selection.

Control

Like most fully built-in models, the Garlyn GDW-1045 control panel is located at the end of the door and is not visible when the lid is closed.

On the left side of the control panel there are power buttons, delayed start settings, a digital display showing the program execution time, and four indicators that inform you about the absence of salt and rinse aid, the activation of the half-load mode and the selection of the additional “3 in 1” function. This function must be set if combination cleaning tablets are used.

On the right are buttons for selecting programs and setting additional options. By successively pressing the “Program” button, you can select one of seven built-in scenarios (detailed discussion is presented below), and by pressing “Alt” the “3 in 1”, “Dry+” and “Half Load” functions are activated and deactivated.

This model does not have a special button to launch the selected scenario — the dishwashing process begins automatically a few seconds after the door is closed. It is also possible to delay the start for a period of 1 to 24 hours at 1 hour intervals.

Exploitation

Unpacking and connecting this model are standard steps and can be completed without difficulty. Connecting to a water outlet is not a problem if you have standard hoses.

Also, leveling the installed machine horizontally is not difficult. To do this, just rotate the front legs using pliers or a wrench until the desired result is achieved. The installation process for the Garlyn GDW-1045 is also standard, and the user manual provides detailed instructions.

Before starting use, it is important to clarify the parameters of tap water and adjust the softener in accordance with its hardness. The settings menu is accessed by simultaneously pressing the «Delay» and «Program» buttons. By default, the dishwasher is set to medium-hard water.

The rinse aid consumption in this model is regulated by a mechanical regulator. If you plan to use combined detergents in the form of tablets or capsules, it is recommended to activate the “3 in 1” function in the settings and set the regulator to the minimum flow rate.

The dishwasher offers the following scenarios:

In addition to the standard modes (eco, intensive, glass), our dishwasher has two quick programs that differ in duration, water temperature and number of rinse cycles. Also available is the Light program for washing slightly soiled dishes and a quick rinse script for subsequent washing.

In our opinion, this set of programs fully satisfies the user’s everyday needs and corresponds to a variety of life situations.

Although the model does not have a special night mode, we measured a slight increase in noise levels compared to the manufacturer's declared values when running standard programs.

The possibility of half loading allows you to significantly save not only time, but also water and electricity.

For ease of monitoring the operation of the device, a “red beam” is provided, which projects a visible point onto the floor during washing or drying. This option, in our opinion, is an essential element for built-in models.

Care

It is recommended to use a lightly dampened cloth or cloth to clean the control panel and external surfaces. At the same time, it is necessary to avoid getting liquid into the door lock and electrical components, so the use of aerosols of any type is absolutely unacceptable.

To remove stains and stains from the inner surface of the tank, the manufacturer recommends using a cloth moistened with water with the addition of a small amount of vinegar, or a special dishwasher detergent.

In case of interruptions in use, for example before going on holiday, it is recommended to run the wash cycle on an empty machine, then disconnect it from the mains, stop the water supply and leave the appliance door slightly ajar. These measures will help the seals maintain their properties for a long time and prevent the appearance of unpleasant odors.

Our measurements

Information on energy consumption and water consumption is provided in the documentation. We measured the actual consumption and compared it with the figures specified by the manufacturer.

ProgramEnergy consumption, kWhWater consumption, l
statedactualstatedactual
Intensive1,3601.22414.013.2
Eco0.7820.8759.09.0
Light0.7300.69511.512.7
Crystal0.6700.5898.68.8
60 minutes0.8500.8698.79.7
Fast0.6500.7265.99.8
Pre-rinse0.0100.0113.34.4

Actual power consumption differs slightly from the values indicated in the technical specifications. For the «Eco» and «Fast» programs it turned out to be slightly higher, and for the rest — lower. The measured water consumption on average was slightly higher than stated in the technical documentation.

We also paid attention to the noise level during operation of the dishwasher: in reality it does not exceed 52 dBA. This is slightly higher than stated in the technical data. It should be noted that our measurements were taken on a machine that was not built into the kitchen unit, and the actual noise level after proper installation is likely to be noticeably lower.

The maximum power recorded in test operation was 1852 W. In standby mode, the dishwasher consumes about 0.4 W, and in off mode it consumes less than 0.1 W.

Practice tests

In our practical tests, we use a 3-in-1 combination detergent from one of the most popular manufacturers in Russia.

Eco-program and “artificial mud”

Using practical dishwasher tests, we create the ideal conditions to test their efficiency. This time we decided to create “perfect dirt”: we took a set of dishes, brought it to the state where “the eaters were not too neat,” and then left it to dry for a day. Next, we imitated the situation with lazy owners (or simply tired and tired): we loaded all the items into the car without any order — they left it as they came. Plates in the lower basket, bowls and saucers in the middle, cups on the folding shelf. Cutlery and kitchen utensils were scattered in the upper basket without any order.

For this test, we chose the standard «Eco» program, optimized to save energy and water. The results turned out to be very satisfactory: the dishes in the lower and middle baskets were washed to a shine, and we did not find any traces of dirt either visually or by touch. However, one of the kitchen knives in the upper basket had noticeable grease stains on it. This is probably due to the presence of a “dead zone” in the area of the upper injector.

We liked the quality of drying: not a drop was left on the dishes, only the plastic parts of the kitchen utensils on the top shelf were slightly damp: condensation drying does not always work well on plastic.

Result: good

Light program and dried tomato sauce

We tested the automatic program on three jars: a two-liter jar and two three-liter jars. They were stained from the inside with ketchup and traditionally left to dry for 24 hours.

It was convenient to place them in the lower basket because we folded the far row of holders.

For this experiment we chose the Light program. Let us emphasize: this program is intended for dishes with light to moderate soiling, including dishes with dried-on food — exactly what we had difficulty simulating.

The result was once again pleasing: not a trace of tomato on the glass. True, large glass containers do not always dry out when washed — this happened this time too.

Result: excellent

Wine glasses and glassware washing script

In this test, glasses, red wine (inside the container) and thicker lipstick (on the edges) were used. After that, our still life dried for 24 hours — as if they left the kitchen at night and did not enter it until the next evening.

We placed two large (600 ml) wine glasses in the middle basket so that the legs rested on the folding shelves. The second pair did not fit into the basket: non-folding guides got in the way.

The third and fourth glasses were placed in the lower basket — here again plastic shelves with slots for legs helped us.

We were completely satisfied with the washing result: all four glasses were washed perfectly, there were no traces of dried wine or lipstick left on the dishes.

The glass surface of the glasses remained slightly damp, so the drying in this cycle could have been more intensive.

Result: good.

Intensive washing and heavily soiled dishes

To test the program for washing intense stains, according to established tradition, we took a ceramic form in which fatty meat was baked with sour cream sauce, and after emptying it, we stuck it in the oven for another 15 minutes — until a persistent crust (and the corresponding smell) appeared.

We turned the form soiled in this way over and placed it in the far part of the lower basket, folding both rows of guides.

We were completely satisfied with the result: the ceramics were washed perfectly — not the slightest trace of a burnt crust.

The quality of drying was also satisfactory, although a few drops of water could be seen on the concave bottom.

Result: excellent

conclusions

The narrow, fully built-in dishwasher Garlyn GDW-1045 impressed us with its convenient organization of shelves, the presence of a third basket for cutlery, a rich set of built-in programs and additional options, as well as high energy efficiency. It successfully passed our standard tests and showed good results during regular use.

Seven dishwashing programs are enough for all occasions. It would be worth adding a special night one: when working with standard ones, this model is noisy.

Pros:

  • good set of built-in programs
  • presence of a third shelf for cutlery
  • effective dishwashing
  • good efficiency
  • simple controls

Minuses:

  • high noise without night mode
