The Evolution brand presents the I-2830 iron, equipped with modern technologies for comfortable ironing. While it's unclear whether this device will change the minds of those who don't like ironing, its appearance and functionality are truly impressive.

The iron is equipped with an electronic display and many necessary programs and functions, including, in our opinion, the most important one — automatic shutdown when idle. Ceramic sole, automatic steam control and operation in two modes (Auto and Pro) — we will carefully evaluate all these features during testing.

Equipment

The Evolution I-2830 iron is supplied in a box made of thick white cardboard. The packaging is designed in a minimalist style: on one side the device is depicted in silver, on the other its description and technical characteristics are given. The box does not have a carrying handle.

Inside the box, the device is securely fixed with two foam inserts. After unpacking, we found the iron itself and the measuring cup, packed in plastic bags, as well as the user manual.

At first sight

Externally, the Evolution I-2830 looks like a regular iron, but upon closer inspection we noticed a number of features.

The iron is made in a combination of two familiar and neutral colors — white and blue. The body is smooth, with a grooved pattern along the sole. The handle contains control elements: an electronic display with a button and a steam button. The place where the handle touches the palm is covered with a rubberized material reminiscent of soft touch. This material is pleasant to the touch and ensures a reliable, non-slip position of the iron in your hand.

The soleplate of the iron has an Evo Anion Ceramic coating. According to the manufacturer, the anionic ceramic sole with an ionization effect eliminates static electricity from the fabric. The central part of the sole is smooth, there are two grooves on the sides, and a third appears at the nose. In the inner groove, away from the edge, there are holes for steam to escape. The shape of the nose attracts attention — it tapers, elongates and is rounded at the top. Brief technical information about the iron is pasted on the base of the body under the soleplate.

The back of the iron is of particular interest. There is a hole here for filling water into the tank. The latch is comfortable and turns with little effort in the direction of the indicators, which prevents accidental opening. Two padlock-style indicators in open and closed states tell the user in which direction to rotate the lid. The hole diameter is approximately 3.7 cm, which allows you to fill the reservoir not only with the included cup, but also with any utensils with a spout if the accessory is lost.

The 1.9m long power cable is attached to the back of the iron using a ball joint. The cord is protected from deformation and bending by a flexible casing 6 cm long. The cord is long enough for comfortable use of the iron under standard conditions. For easy storage, the cord can be coiled around the bottom of the base.

The Evolution I-2830 iron comes with a plastic cup for pouring water into the reservoir. A standard cup shape with a spout and a volume of 120 ml, with marks on the side for 50, 100 and 120 ml.

Visual acquaintance with the iron left us with a positive impression. Particularly interesting are the design with a hole for filling water at the bottom of the case and control using an electronic display. Now you don’t need to turn the temperature control knob! But won't we hear the familiar lamp clicks anymore?.. Seriously speaking, the device seems well made and easy to operate.

Instructions

The user manual is a small A5 brochure printed on glossy paper. The contents of the document are quite standard: a description of the device and its structure, safety measures, operating rules and other mandatory information, including a section for troubleshooting possible faults. It was interesting to read the description of the device, as well as the features of control and mode switching.

Getting acquainted with the manual will not take much time and will be easy, since all the information is well structured and illustrated with pictures and diagrams. One reading, in our opinion, will be enough to successfully use the iron.

Control

All controls are located at the top of the iron handle. There is an electronic display here, and on the reverse side there is a button for supplying steam. The display contains a program selection button with an indicator around the perimeter and seven light indicators: six for temperature modes and one for the descaling program.

The Evolution I-2830 iron offers two operating modes: Auto — automatic and Pro — for experienced users. To switch modes, you must simultaneously press the steam supply and mode selection buttons.

When the iron is plugged in, a sound signal sounds and the program selection button indicator starts flashing. By default, the iron operates in Pro mode with the first program “All Fabrics”, designed for ironing lightly wrinkled laundry. The remaining five programs are designed for different types of fabrics. It is convenient that the user can navigate the temperature conditions using the indicator — one point corresponds to the automatic program and synthetics, two — silk and wool, three — cotton and linen.

The intensity of steam humidification depends on the choice of Auto or Pro mode. In automatic mode, the iron itself decides how much steam to supply to the fabric, depending on the set program. In Pro mode, steam humidification occurs only when you press the corresponding button.

In general, selecting programs, switching them and ironing in different modes does not cause any difficulties. The controls are intuitive and simple.

Exploitation

Before use, it is recommended to remove all stickers and packaging material and wipe the body and soleplate of the iron with a damp cloth. The instructions note that there may be condensation in the water tank due to quality control of the device. When you turn it on for the first time, there may be a short-term smell, although we did not encounter this, but there was condensation in the tank. Additionally, when first used, a white salt-like powder came out of the steam nozzles on the soleplate. It is recommended to start by ironing a piece of fabric that may be lost.

It is very convenient that the hole for filling water has a large diameter and is suitable for almost any container. For example, we filled the reservoir from a kettle with cooled boiling water. Do not use water with additives such as starch or perfumes.

The iron is suitable for dry ironing, steam ironing and vertical steaming. Vertical steaming is possible, but takes time. The steam power is sufficient for efficient use. The steam comes out in an even and powerful stream, which makes it easy to iron knitted items that have been lying in the closet for a long time.

For a burst of steam, you need to quickly press the steam button twice, and the next burst can be done after 10 seconds.

The iron is equipped with an automatic shut-off function. If it does not move in a vertical position for 8 minutes or in a horizontal position for 30 seconds, all mode indicators go out and the device turns off without sound signals.

The iron tip has a convenient shape, which makes it easy to iron complex clothing items such as flounces, gathers and sleeve armholes.

Care

The iron requires minimal maintenance after use. After use, you should pour out any remaining water from the reservoir, carefully wrap the power cord around the winder and store the device in a dry place.

Do not use hard cloths, abrasives or vinegar to clean the body and soleplate. The tank must be periodically rinsed with clean water, after which this water should be discarded.

The device is equipped with an automatic descaling system. The program starts approximately every 10 hours of operation — a special indicator lights up on the display. The self-cleaning process includes the following steps:

  1. Fill the water tank to the maximum level.
  2. Connect the iron to the mains, supporting the soleplate over a container or sink.
  3. Hold the program selection button for 5 seconds.
  4. The system will complete cleaning when the indicator light stops flashing and the iron returns to the previous program setting.

During testing, it was not possible to activate auto-cleaning; even an attempt to force it to start by long pressing the mode selection button was unsuccessful: the cleaning system did not respond to user commands.

Our measurements

The maximum power of the Evolution I-2830 steam iron, measured during testing, was 2520 W.

An infrared thermometer was used to measure the temperature of the sole in various operating modes. The measurements were carried out in Pro mode, which is installed by default. The temperature was measured immediately after the heating indicator stopped flashing.

The average temperature values in different areas of the sole were:

  • Delicates: 97–136 °C
  • Silk: 100–142 °C
  • Wool: 130–170 °C
  • Cotton: 150–205 °C
  • Flax: 168–220 °C
  • “All fabrics” program: 105–128 °C

The iron requires 1 minute 45 seconds to reach the maximum temperature required for Linen mode. For minimal heat, the iron reaches operating temperature in 35 seconds.

The auto shut-off function worked 30 seconds after the iron was left in a horizontal position. In a vertical position, the iron turned off after 8 minutes 42 seconds.

Practice tests

T-shirt with print

For testing we used a children's T-shirt and a long sleeve with bright prints. Both clothes are made of cotton fabric, but their quality is different. Long sleeves have a denser fabric, which is usually less easy to iron. A T-shirt, on the contrary, is made of thin fabric, wrinkles less and easily comes into decent shape with minimal effort.

Ironed in Pro mode, “Cotton” program, steam was periodically supplied.

The long sleeve was ironed from the front side, but the pattern on the print was not deformed, and no fragments of it stuck to the sole of the iron. However, the overdried fabric could not be smoothed out perfectly — strong creases remained even after using steam blasts.

The T-shirt was ironed from the wrong side, and the result was better — all the creases and wrinkles were smoothed out well. The print was not damaged by exposure to steam and high temperature.

Result: excellent.

Ironing delicate fabrics

The festive dress is made of delicate fabric, there is also an embroidered pattern, a not the simplest cut and an outer skirt made of organza.

We worked in Pro mode, selecting the first temperature mode. The inner skirt did not smooth out well, but the material was really difficult. When we tried to increase the temperature to “Silk”, the fabric began to stick to the sole of the iron, so we returned to the first mode. The photograph clearly shows the difference between the treated and unironed fabric.

The organza was unexpectedly easy to smooth out, the skirt became smooth and voluminous. The top of the dress was ironed from the inside out. In each case, steam was used; its power was low, but sufficient to give the dress a well-groomed appearance.

Result: excellent.

Dress with complex decorative elements

The dress is made of cotton fabric, which is easy to iron. However, its small size, the presence of a flounce, a fluffy gathered skirt, complex shapes of sleeves and decorative elements on them create certain difficulties when ironing. For this test, we'll focus on evaluating the comfort of the soleplate shape, especially the iron's unusual elongated nose shape.

We worked in the «Cotton» mode, periodically supplying steam. This took some time, but thanks to the tapered nose of the iron, we were able to handle all the structural elements of the dress with relative ease.

Let us clarify that the color of the dress has remained unchanged, although it may appear different in the photographs due to changes in lighting.

Result: excellent.

Jeans

The product is made of thin denim. To make things more difficult, the jeans were over-dried. For this test, it was decided to use the Auto mode with a constant supply of steam. We switched the iron to automatic mode for inexperienced users, selected the cotton ironing program and got to work.

The steam flowed almost continuously, it felt like it had medium power, the fabric steamed and straightened out reluctantly. They stroked for a long time, repeatedly passing over the same place.

As a result, the jeans were put in order, but we unexpectedly had to work hard for this.

Result: good.

Linen skirt

The results of the last test caused mixed feelings and left some questions open: perhaps we dried out the jeans, or the automatic mode settings were not entirely optimal. To obtain a clearer answer to these questions, it is necessary to conduct an additional experiment.

We pulled out a linen skirt from the far corner of the closet. The fabric had wrinkles from long-term storage and deep creases — an excellent subject for testing. Ironed in Pro mode, selecting the “Linen” program with a constant supply of steam. The fabric was smoothed out very poorly: the same places had to be processed several times, especially on deep creases. However, even after repeated exposure, it was not possible to completely get rid of the wrinkles — noticeable traces of folds remained on the fabric.

The skirt did not look perfect, but with linen it is extremely difficult to achieve this, and it is not necessary. Overall, we rate the result as average, closer to good.

Result: good.

Vertical steaming

To complete the testing, let's consider the operation of the iron as a vertical steamer. We took a warm knitted pullover made of mixed fabric, which does not contain wool, but contains acrylic. I photographed the back as the back is a better example, while the patterns on the front may hide wrinkles in the fabric.

We carried out the treatment while holding the steam button pressed. Steam came out of the holes in the sole in a steady stream. Having passed the hot steaming sole of the iron along the jacket, we watched as the fabric straightened out before our eyes. This happened very quickly and efficiently. The pullover was put in order so quickly that the author’s hand didn’t even get tired from holding the 1.5-kilogram device.

Result: excellent.

conclusions

The Evolution I-2830 iron is a high-quality device equipped with all modern functions and modes. Steaming, temperature control, a smooth ceramic sole, the ability to operate in both automatic and manual modes, as well as an automatic shut-off function when inactive — all these characteristics give the iron a high level of comfort and ensure safe use.

The Evolution I-2830 iron offers three operating modes: dry ironing, ironing with steam and vertical steaming. The control includes two modes: automatic, where the iron independently determines the required level of steam humidification depending on the selected temperature program, and manual, where the user controls the steam supply. An interesting feature is the shape of the sole with an elongated nose, which copes well with processing complex products and parts. The water filling hole located at the bottom of the body does not affect the operation of the iron, but simplifies the process of filling the tank.

Pros:

  • ease of use and maintenance
  • comfortable sole shape with a narrow, elongated toe
  • electronic control
  • sufficient steam generation power
  • two operating modes

Minuses:

  • does not cope very well with smoothing out strong creases on dense natural fabrics
