We won't waste time explaining what a fan is and what it's for. Instead, we present to you our review today: the Lex LXFC 8347 floor fan. This is a classic design model that doesn't try to impress, but simply does its job. We'll test it to see how effectively it copes with everyday tasks.

Equipment

The fan is packed in a large flat box made of high-quality brown cardboard, which is clearly not a standard «technical» packaging material. The front side of the box shows a black and white picture of the fan, the manufacturer's logo and the model index. The side edges contain a list of the key characteristics and features of the device.

Inside the box we found a fan in disassembled form, a remote control, a user manual and a warranty card. Batteries will have to be purchased separately.

At first glance

Like most axial fans, the Lex LXFC 8347 is supplied disassembled.

The main part of the device is the motor unit with a rotation mechanism. It is integrated with the case, inside which the electronic components are located. On the front side of the unit there is a control panel with four buttons, which we will consider in more detail a little later.

Before using the device, you need to install the rear grille on the motor axle, then install the blades and secure them with a clamp. Finally, install the front grille and secure it with a rim.

The bottom of the fan is a base that is attached to the bottom support and is a heavy metal disk that ensures the stability of the structure. The top of the device is a retractable rod that is fixed with a clamp and allows you to adjust the height of the fan from 90 to 110 cm.

Now let's take a closer look at all the elements of the fan.

The base is cThe base is covered with a decorative plastic cover on top. The plastic is black and glossy.overed with a decorative plastic cover on top. The plastic is black and glossy.

In our opinion, this is not the best solution: the base can be subject to accidental damage, for example, from contact with shoes, a mop or a broom, which will lead to scratches on the plastic.

The fan rod is made of metal and is attached to the base using a threaded connection.

The lower part is painted black. The retractable rod is not painted. The lower part of the rod is fixed with a plastic clamp nut.

The motor block is fixed on top with a special screw located on the back side.

The fan impeller has five blades made of glossy plastic and is protected by a standard wire grille. In the center of the grille on the front side there is a plastic overlay with the Lex logo.

At the top of the motor block there is a locking screw that allows you to adjust the angle of the fan along the vertical axis. Left and right rotation is carried out using a built-in rotary mechanism.

The tilt of the motor block with the impeller is adjustable within approximately 60°.

Instructions

The operating manual is an 18-page brochure on thin white paper with good printing quality. All diagrams and drawings are clear and understandable.

The manual covers two similar Lex fan models with minor differences in control. It contains information on safety precautions, the device's design, as well as recommendations for fan care and storage.

The brochure concludes with information on the technical specifications, equipment and correct disposal of the equipment.

Control

Lex LXFC 8321 is controlled by four buttons located at the base of the case. Just above them is a block of LED indicators indicating the selected operating mode.

The purpose of the buttons is intuitive:

  • «On/Speed» button: turns on the fan and adjusts the rotation speed. The device starts at the last set speed, and repeated presses allow you to select one of three speeds. The selected speed is displayed as a red number on the indicator.
  • «Swing» button: activates and deactivates the fan's rotary mechanism.
  • «Preset/Timer» button: sets the timer for automatic shutdown. The period can be set from 30 minutes to 7.5 hours in half-hour increments. The time is displayed by a combination of four red LEDs: for example, for 1.5 hours, the 0.5h and 1h indicators are lit, for 3.5 hours — 0.5h, 1h and 2h, etc.

Pressing the buttons and signals from the remote control are accompanied by quiet sound signals (beeping).

Remote control

For remote control, the kit includes a small infrared remote control with five buttons.

The functions of the remote control basically duplicate those on the control panel on the case. However, the remote control has an additional «Mode» button, which is not present on the fan itself. It allows you to select one of three modes — «Natural», «Normal» and «Night». The selected mode is displayed on the display as the letters NAT, NOR and SLP, respectively. The auto-rotate indicator lights up when this function is activated and is displayed as SW.

If the remote control is lost or its batteries are discharged, and the «Normal» mode is set, the fan can be returned to normal mode only by disconnecting it from the power supply.

The remote control operates on two AAA batteries, which are not included.

Operation

Before using the fan, you need to fully assemble it, which is not particularly difficult and takes a little time.

You need to insert two AAA batteries into the remote control, which you need to buy separately.

When testing the Lex LXFC 8321, we found that all the functions work correctly: the modes are easy to select and switch, the controls are intuitive. The only thing that raises questions is the lack of a mode selection button on the fan body, leaving it only on the remote control.

Our impressions of operation are as follows: the fan rotates quickly and creates a powerful air flow even at minimum speed. The «Natural» (simulating natural wind) and «Night» (providing light airflow at night) modes turned out to be quite similar, although the night mode is slightly weaker. However, this difference is insignificant.

The noise level, in our opinion, is slightly above average. Even at minimum speed, the noise can be noticeable, which can be problematic during sleep.

Care

Do not use steam jets to clean any part of the unit. Do not use cleaning agents containing chlorine, ammonia or bleach. Avoid abrasive or corrosive agents such as powders, stain removers, metal sponges or scrapers.

The fan housing must not be immersed in water or washed in a dishwasher.

Our measurements

The power consumed by the fan and the noise emitted by the device depend on the selected operating mode:

Rotation speedIIIIII
Power, W3740.344.5
Noise, dB(A)495253

The manufacturer claims a noise level of up to 32 dB. Let's figure out what that means. For comparison, in our office, which overlooks a quiet courtyard, the background noise is 34-35 dB, which is equivalent to a quiet conversation or a radio on the 2nd or 3rd floor. When we turn on the fan and measure the noise level at a distance of 1 meter, the noise meter shows from 49 to 53 dB, depending on the selected mode.

Now let's look at the different operating modes and measure the maximum air flow rate.

Rotation speedIIIIII
Air flow velocity at a distance of 1 m (m/s)2.83.74
Air flow velocity at the fan grille (m/s)3.75.25.5

To evaluate the maximum performance of the device, we used an anemometer. Measurements were taken at sixteen points located directly at the fan grille. The average air flow rate was 5.2 m/s. With a fan diameter of 400 mm, this corresponds to a maximum air flow rate of 39.1 cubic meters per minute.

Conclusions

The Lex LXFC 8347 fan is a traditional device with a proven design and classic look. It offers three speeds, three additional modes and a horizontal rotation function, which is typical for many similar models. The advantages of this particular model include the presence of an automatic shutdown timer and an artificial wind mode. However, the night mode turned out to be less successful, and the difference between the speeds seemed insignificant to us. We would have preferred a lower minimum speed and a slightly reduced power level in the middle mode.

Thanks to the remote control, the device can be controlled from a distance. And the choice of «natural» and «night» modes is only available from the remote control; you cannot turn them on using the buttons located on the device body.

Pros:

  • easy control
  • traditional design
  • remote control
  • automatic shutdown timer
  • artificial wind mode

Cons:

  • noise level is higher than desired
