Review of the Evolution Barber Full control hair clipper

12.04.2024 08:07

I love the Evolution Barber Full control clipper from the very beginning. It attracted attention with its stylish design and functionality already at the unboxing stage. This device has a set of interchangeable combs and allows you to fine-tune the trimmer even without combs. In addition, it is equipped with a bright display to show the charge level, motor speed control and a convenient charging stand. All this makes it a really interesting solution!

* Contrary to popular belief, this is not the time limit after which the device will necessarily break down. However, after this period, the manufacturer ceases to bear any responsibility for its performance and has the right to refuse to repair it, even for a fee.

Equipment

The machine is packed in a compact cardboard box made in a minimalist style: a vector illustration of the machine is shown on a white background. On the sides there are icons with captions that introduce the user to the main characteristics of the device.

On the back of the box there is a detailed text description of the device, its functionality and characteristics in Russian and English.

Inside, the contents are packed in a plastic tray.

After opening the package we found the following components:

  • Hair clipper
  • Four plastic comb attachments
  • USB charging cable
  • Cleaning brush
  • Stand (charging station)
  • Instructions with warranty card

The equipment of the machine fully complies with the standard, which makes it easy to start using and maintaining the device. The lack of a separate charging adapter is not a problem, as it avoids unnecessary USB charges in the house.

The charging stand allows you to conveniently store the device on the table, on the edge of the sink, or any other suitable place for cutting.

At first sight

When you first meet the hair clipper, you get a very pleasant impression. Despite the unusual choice of colors (green trimmers and clippers are not very common), the device is pleasant to the touch. Its light weight (224 g) gives the impression of a reliable and high-quality device. There is an assumption that this is a rare case when a budget device can compete with more expensive models.

The body is made of green matte plastic, which gives it an organic and thoughtful look. The design is free of unnecessary elements and decorative overlays, which often seem cheap. This gives the device an elegant look without compromising its functionality.

On the front side of the machine you can see the Evolution logo, under which there is a ring for adjusting the length of the haircut when working without combs. Below is a block of three buttons, and below it, behind darkened plastic, is an LED display that displays the status of the device and the battery charge level.

Although the clipper does not have a special grip area, the plastic ring for adjusting the length of the haircut can perform this function. It has a rough surface that makes it easy to switch modes or use it as a gripping area.

There are guides on the sides for installing plastic combs. On the back of the case there are inscriptions containing information about the model, a suitable charging adapter, power and degree of moisture protection (IPX7).

The ridges themselves have a standard appearance. There are four of them included in the package, allowing you to adjust the cutting length to 3, 6, 9 or 12 mm.

There is a special place on the front side for your finger to be pressed when installing or removing the comb. It is worth noting that the combs are held in place with some effort, which may cause slight discomfort at the beginning of use. The plastic may seem like it might break, but it is usually durable.

The plastic power button is located under the thumb. Above and below it are buttons for adjusting the engine speed. Below is an LED display that is invisible when turned off.

Now let's take a look at the knives. The cutting mechanism consists of two parts. The first of them is a movable ceramic knife, the second part is a fixed metal one. The width of the cutting part is 3.7 cm.

The spring-loaded knife block easily snaps off, allowing you to examine its insides and, of course, clean off cut hair and lubricate it with oil.

Under the knife block you can see how the driving moment is transmitted to the knives. This machine uses a classic solution with a pin whose center of rotation is shifted.

At the bottom of the machine there is a connector for connecting the power adapter. Although the machine charges from a regular USB, the connector on the device itself is non-standard, which can complicate the search for a replacement. The cord length is 0.7 m, which is enough for convenient charging.

The charging stand is made of plastic, with some elements painted to look like metal. There are rubber pads on the underside of the base to prevent slipping. The wire is connected to the base from the back. The machine is installed from above, but the fastening is not very reliable: with a little force, the device can begin to dangle.

The package includes a brush for cleaning the mechanism from hair trimmings.

Well, everything looks pretty good. Let's see what will happen next.

Instructions

The user manual is made in the form of a compact brochure printed on black and white glossy paper. The information is presented simply and concisely, which allows you to quickly familiarize yourself with the rules of operation and care of the device.

However, it should be noted that the drafters of the document may not have paid special attention to it: for example, there is no section on changing speed. However, all the necessary information is presented, and it only takes a few minutes of reading the document to get started with the machine.

Control

The machine is equipped with two control methods: three mechanical buttons and the ability to adjust the length of the haircut by rotating the ring in the upper part of the body. The adjustment range is from 0.2 to 1.8 mm in 0.2 mm increments. Changing the length of the haircut occurs in steps, with a slight click.

The central button controls turning the machine on and off. The “+” and “−” buttons allow you to adjust the speed of the motor. When you turn on the machine, the speed is always set at 6000 rpm. The user can select speed values from the range of 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500 and 7000 rpm. The selected mode and battery charge level are shown on the LED display. The red charging indicator turns on when the charge level is below 25%.

Exploitation

Before first use, it is recommended to charge the device for 4-6 hours, despite the error in the instructions. To extend battery life, it is recommended to fully discharge the battery every 6 months.

The user manual does not indicate whether the device can be used when connected to a power adapter, but theoretically it is possible. However, contact with water and other sources of moisture should be avoided and attention should be paid to possible effects on battery performance.

The battery capacity is 1200 mAh and the operating time is approximately 120 minutes.

Before cutting, it is recommended to wash, dry and comb your hair. To cut hair close to the skin, you can avoid using combs, which allows you to achieve a cutting length of 0.8 to 1.8 mm. It is recommended not to use excessive force when cutting.

The machine has high-quality blade processing, which ensures a comfortable and neat haircut. The heating of the blades remains moderate, and the cutting process is comfortable for the hairdresser and the client.

The overall impression of using the machine is rated as positive. The cutting speed is moderate and the quality of work is high.

Regularly cleaning the blades and avoiding overheating will help extend the life of the machine.

Care

To ensure a long service life of the machine, it is necessary to regularly clean the blades and body of the device. After each use, the blades should be cleaned with a brush, and the body should be wiped with a damp cloth and dried. It is also recommended to periodically lubricate the blades by dripping a few drops of oil onto them.

The blades can also be washed under running water, but before doing this they must be removed by snapping the knife block off the machine body.

The handle (body) can be washed under running water. The manufacturer promises us a high standard of protection from dust and moisture class IPX7, which means the device can withstand immersion under water to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes.

In general, caring for the device and its daily cleaning does not cause any difficulties.

Our measurements

During the charging process, the machine consumes a small amount of energy: on the wattmeter we noticed a reading of about 2-3 W. During charging, the display shows the current battery charge level, allowing you to estimate at any time how much time remains until the process is complete. It takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to fully charge.

We measured battery life through a series of 5-minute starts with pauses between them. The machine worked for 1 hour and 15 minutes, which turned out to be noticeably less than the stated 2 hours.

Practice tests

This time we decided to conduct testing with a hairdresser, deviating from our standard techniques, such as cutting hair with different combs and photographing the results. Our main question was: can the machine provide a high-quality haircut, and if so, how convenient will the process be?

We conducted a single test, also including the younger model — Evolution Barber ProBoost. We tried to ensure that the areas of responsibility of the machines did not overlap: one machine worked on one side of the head, the other on the other. In the photographs, the operation of the machine is reflected on the right side of the head (unless otherwise indicated in the comments).

We checked how the machine copes with different areas of the haircut and recorded our feelings and impressions. To start the test, we used fairly long hair, which allowed for a full haircut.

The overall impressions of cutting hair with both clippers turned out to be similar, and the quality of work in both cases turned out to be decent. In some cases, it was even difficult for us to distinguish the result “blindly”.

This is what our test subject looked like at the beginning of the test.

The haircut began with treatment of the neck area. Here is the initial state.

The haircut began with treatment of the neck area. Here is the initial state.

We started by treating the neck area. At this stage, we immediately noticed the convenience of adjusting the length of the haircut using the rotating ring. It turned out to be very convenient to create variable hair lengths.

As you can see, we easily managed to cut both the neck, the temples, and the area next to the ears. The machine works confidently, cuts hair on the first pass, and does not pull individual hairs. The haircut is comfortable.

We spend a few more minutes trimming the same areas again and get a result close to the desired one.

We also process the back of the head by changing the length of the haircut using a ring. Above — we move to the minimum ridge (3 mm). Even higher — we use a 6 mm comb and resort to scissors.

We evaluate the final result as quite worthy.

As a result, Evolution Barber Full control successfully completed its task, cutting one person's hair at a time. The knives heated up moderately, the haircut proceeded confidently, and no unpleasant sensations were recorded.

conclusions

According to the test results, the Evolution Barber Full control met our expectations and proved to be an excellent device in its category. We think it's hard to find anything better at this price. We were completely satisfied with the cutting process: the hair was cut easily and evenly, and the knives did not snag individual hairs, which is often typical for budget models.

We didn't find any flaws. The motor power turned out to be quite suitable for performing a variety of home haircuts. The ability to adjust the speed of the motor, although it provides additional options, has proven to be rarely used in practice. All functions worked flawlessly.

Our final verdict: the machine can be recommended for home use without a doubt. She can easily handle one or even two haircuts in a row. After this, of course, you need to give it a little rest, but it’s unlikely that you’ll have to cut more than two people’s hair at a time at home, right?

Pros:

  • low price
  • stylish appearance
  • decent quality haircut
  • precise adjustment of hair length for short haircuts (in trimmer mode)
  • ceramic knife

Minuses:

  • Operating time without recharging is lower than stated
