Review of the Redmond YR4501 irrigator

Recently I came across a funny advertising poster: a tall surprised man holds a device in his hands, with the inscription: «Meet the irrigator!» Today we will look at the wireless portable irrigator Redmond YR4501, test it and find out what this model has to offer.

* Contrary to popular belief, this is not a period after which the device will necessarily break down. However, after this period, the manufacturer ceases to bear any responsibility for its functionality and has the right to refuse to repair it, even for a fee.

The Redmond YR4501 irrigator comes in a stylish white box with a branded design. The packaging is compact and attractive, the front side shows the device itself, and the top part shows the manufacturer's name and model name. One of the side panels shows a case with attachments and lists the advantages of the device: 4 cleaning modes, the ability to select intensity in manual mode and a memory function for the last mode. On the back of the package, the main characteristics of the device are presented in three languages: Russian, Kazakh and English. Legal addresses and barcodes are also indicated. On the side cover there is a QR code leading to the product page on the official website.

Inside there is a special plastic form for packing the irrigator parts, everything has a separate place.

Irrigators are increasingly recommended by dentists, and stories about how the device is first bought for a child after braces are installed, and then the whole family starts using it, are multiplying exponentially. It seems that manufacturers are trying not to scare the buyer, avoiding associations with medicine and routine procedures as much as possible. Externally, the Redmond YR4501 resembles a light tower or an elegant female figure in a ceremonial dress. In profile, you can see that the compact device is slightly wider at the black base, and from the front it looks short and narrow.

It is pleasant to hold in the hand, the weight does not cause anxiety or rejection. We asked the youngest in the family to hold the irrigator, we barely took it back.

At the top of the irrigator is a metal button, holding which you can remove and install the nozzles. Next to it is a socket for nozzles that can rotate 360 ​​degrees. On the front are two control buttons, a mode scale and a small narrow window for monitoring the water level with a maximum level mark. The brand name is neatly inscribed above the black base, and the base itself serves as a lid for the reservoir.

In the area of ​​the control buttons, the body is slightly corrugated for greater stability and convenience, especially when holding the device with wet hands. On the back of the device, from bottom to top, are: a lever for removing the bottom of the reservoir, a hole for filling with water with a protective cap and a port for charging. All plugs are visible, close well and are easy to remove. The reservoir holds 250 ml — a little more than is necessary for a standard thorough cleaning.

The device is charged via a USB-C cable from a laptop, power bank or adapter. The manufacturer promises that it will take about 4 hours to fully charge. We put the Redmond YR4501 on charge before going to bed and found that even a half-hour charge ensures optimal use of the irrigator. A full charge, according to the brand, should last for 45 days, and after 19 days of use, our charge level was still high.

The kit includes three attachments, and they come in a plastic case with convenient fasteners inside. In addition, there is a travel bag for transportation, decorated with ribbons, which adds charm. However, the attachments will have to be placed in a bag without a case, which is not very hygienic, but quite acceptable.

We liked that the remaining water can be drained by opening the bottom cover — the base of the irrigator. This allows you to reliably empty and dry the container well. The white case, as expected, turned out to be quite easily soiled: traces of drops quickly appear on it, which are easily and quickly erased with a damp cloth.

The operating manual is a booklet of one white glossy sheet folded in four. The first spread contains all the necessary information: safety precautions, technical specifications, device diagrams and description of assembly, operation of the device, recommendations for choosing modes, rules of care, transportation and storage. At the end are the terms of warranty obligations. On the reverse side, the information is duplicated in Kazakh, and a warranty card is also placed. The booklet is packed in an individual package. If necessary, the instructions can be downloaded from the site.

The device remembers the last selected operating mode and starts with these settings the next time you turn it on.

Now let's look at the modes, there are only four of them. The first three:

• Clean is a standard mode for daily use.
• Soft is a soft cleaning mode for sensitive gums.
• Pulse is a pulsation mode for deep cleaning and gum massage.

The device is controlled by two buttons: on and off. We start by selecting a mode, the indicator will show the current mode. Press the button briefly and carefully, no great effort is required. If you select the DIY mode (manual settings), which allows you to adjust the jet pressure, hold down the mode selection button to change the pressure; there are seven intensity levels available. When you reach the desired level, release the button — the irrigator will remember your choice.

When the mode is selected, the container is full, and the nozzle is installed, slightly open your mouth, point the nozzle at the area of ​​​​the teeth and press the power button. The model has an auto-off timer that will turn off the device 2 minutes after starting work.

As usual, we started with preparation: rinsed the device, charged it, chose a place in the bathroom and discussed recommendations with the doctor. For beginners, it is important to start with the softest mode. Although the irrigator does not damage the gums, you need to get used to it.

Fill the container carefully, not exceeding the maximum mark. The filling hole conveniently allows you to fill the tank with a medium stream from the tap, it is better to use slightly warm water. The brand recommends boiled, warm water without impurities, the optimal temperature is from 35 to 40 ° C, since hard water can lead to sediment.

The rinsing position depends on your preferences: you can lean over the sink or turn your head slightly to the side. Determine what is comfortable for you. Also decide whether to use the irrigator before or after brushing your teeth — some prefer one order, and others — the other, we also used the device after eating.

The irrigator is moisture-resistant and is not afraid of water from above, steam in the shower or accidental falls into water are not a problem for it. However, it is better to avoid long immersions in water, and it is recommended to rinse the container before each new use.

Redmond YR4501 is very stable and fits easily on any flat surface: a shelf, a bathtub edge or a sink. We remind you that it is better to drain the remaining water and dry the container thoroughly before long-term transportation. To do this, simply remove the bottom cover, which also serves as the base of the device, and leave the container open for a while.

The nozzles are best stored in a case. The standard nozzle is suitable for daily use and requires replacement every 6 months. The orthodontic nozzle is designed for braces and should be replaced every 3 months. The periodontal nozzle is designed for deep cleaning of gums and lasts about 3 months; it should only be used in a delicate mode.

The additional cover for transportation is a light cloth bag of light gray color. It is convenient and easy to assemble, dries and rinses quickly. Redmond YR4501 is very easy to use, and all family members quickly figured out its basic functions without any difficulties.

As already noted, the elegant white body gets dirty quickly, but is easy to clean with a damp cloth: a couple of movements — and there are no traces of drops left.

After each use, the nozzles must be washed under running water. If children forget to do this, you can gently rinse the nozzles under warm water once a week and regularly disinfect them by placing them in a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or a 1% chlorhexidine solution for a few minutes.

After cleaning, drain the remaining water from the container to avoid sediment on the walls. If necessary, you can remove the bottom cover and wipe the walls with a damp cloth. The manufacturer recommends rinsing the container with plain water before each use, and once a week — with warm water.

Keep the device away from heat sources and do not subject it to strong impacts during transportation. Use a protective bag for transportation, tightening the ties tightly.

Make sure that impurities, oils or rinsing liquids do not get into the cleaning water — the irrigator should only work with water.

Redmond YR4501 works quite quietly, the noise level is up to 64 dB at maximum pressure. Power consumption during charging is less than 4 W.

The tank holds 250 ml of water, which allows you to use the device depending on the selected mode from 1 minute to 1 minute 19 seconds.

In manual mode, the operating time ranges from 1 minute to 1 minute 21 seconds, depending on the intensity of the pressure.

The Redmond YR4501 is a nice, handy and well-thought-out device. It feels good in your hands from the start, even in the package, and is easy to disassemble and assemble. No problems with its use were found during testing, and it performs its functions effectively.
