Review of the Pioneer KE577M electric kettle with a double-layer casing

23.02.2024 12:37

Recently, some manufacturers have been giving teapots rather exotic functions. However, the Pioneer KE577M takes a simpler approach, performing the basic functions of boiling water, heating to a set temperature and keeping it warm.

You will find out by what means he does this from the review. In the meantime, let's note its laconic and cute design.

* Contrary to popular belief, this is not the time limit after which the device will necessarily break down. However, after this period, the manufacturer ceases to bear any responsibility for its performance and has the right to refuse to repair it, even for a fee.

Equipment

The kettle is packed in a cardboard box with a full-color design. On the front side there is an image of the device, as well as the main characteristics of the model: volume (1.5 l) and power (2200 W). The manufacturer of the contact group and controller is also indicated; in this case, Strix fittings are used — a leading manufacturer of components for electric kettles and thermopots.

The side edges display the technical specifications of the device, as well as images showcasing its features, such as a dual-layer design with cold touch technology, an LED display and a built-in stand that allows the device to rotate 360°.

After opening the package we found the kettle with its base and user manual.

At first sight

The exterior of the kettle is made of glossy white plastic (the manufacturer also offers this model in black), while the interior is made of stainless steel. An elegant decorative rim is formed at the junction along the perimeter of the upper edge.

On one of the sides there is a touch control panel, above which there is an LED display. It is not visible when the device is turned off.

The top of the D-handle is flat. There is a button here that, when pressed, opens the kettle lid by about 45° — enough for convenient pouring of water. For cleaning and maintenance, the lid can also be manually opened wider, to approximately 70°.

The role of a filter and protection against scale in this model is performed by a metal grill with fairly large (2-4 mm in diameter) holes. It can only hold very large debris.

We remind you that the inside of the tank is made of stainless steel (the brand is not specified by the manufacturer). There are three stamped marks on the side: 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 liters (maximum level).

The bottom of the tank has a smooth surface, which features a convenient and efficient hidden heating element. A thermal sensor responsible for temperature control protrudes against the bottom.

The entire control unit is located in the kettle body. The stand is intended solely for power supply and is equipped with a round contact group that provides 360° rotation.

There is a special place at the bottom of the base to store excess cord. There is also a nameplate with information about the manufacturer, maximum power consumption and certificates of conformity.

When we first looked at the device, we discovered a discrepancy in the technical specifications: the maximum power value on the packaging, in the manual and on the label is 2200 W, while on the manufacturer’s official website only 2000 W is indicated. We will determine which of these values is closer to the truth through laboratory tests.

Instructions

The user manual is an A5 brochure consisting of 10 pages and printed on high-quality glossy paper.

The instructions cover in detail safety issues in the operation of the kettle, its structure, preparation procedures for use, general rules of operation and care. Finally, specifications, product certification information, and manufacturer contact information are provided.

Control

The Pioneer KE577M has two touch buttons located on the left side of the body. The lower one is designed to control on and off, while the upper one allows you to select the level of water heating and activate the temperature maintenance mode.

To bring the water to a boil, just press the “Power” button once. A second press stops the process and turns off the device.

To heat the water to the desired temperature, use the “+/−” buttons to select a value from 40 to 100 °C in 10 °C steps. After setting the temperature, pressing the “Power” button starts the heating process.

When the set temperature is reached, the kettle goes into temperature maintenance mode, maintaining it for 2 hours. If the kettle is removed from the stand within 30 minutes, the auto-warm function saves the settings, and the device will continue to maintain the temperature when returning to the base.

The auto-heating function can be turned off at any time by pressing the “Power” button.

The white LED display turns on when the kettle is installed on the base and displays the current temperature of the water in the container, and when selecting the heating level, the target value. The display automatically turns off 20 minutes after boiling or switching off the keep warm mode.

Exploitation

Before first use, it is recommended to fill the kettle with cold water to the maximum level, drain it, and repeat the procedure 2-3 times to remove possible factory residues. After this, it is advisable to wipe the case both inside and outside with a dry, clean cloth. Although we did not notice any unpleasant odors when we first turned it on, we still followed the manufacturer's recommendations.

The kettle is easily filled through the 45° hinged lid. If you need to wipe the inside or remove an item, you can open the lid manually to about 70°, which is sufficient for maintenance.

Thanks to the double design of the body, the outer plastic does not heat up and retains heat well: the wall temperature three minutes after boiling does not exceed 36°C. Only the metal edging between the walls and the lid, part of the internal tank, heats up. However, its size and location make accidental burning unlikely.

The double-layer casing helps reduce noise: the sound of the device boiling is quiet and does not cause discomfort.

The kettle spout allows you to conveniently pour and pour out water without splashing. The built-in temperature sensor demonstrates good accuracy: the difference in measurements with a laboratory thermometer is only 1-2 °C. When the set temperature is reached, the kettle switches off instantly.

The measured power is significantly lower than stated on the packaging and on the manufacturer’s website: the maximum energy consumption is 1747 W at a network voltage of 230 V.

Care

To care for the kettle and stand, it is recommended to wipe them with a soft cloth when dirty, starting with a damp cloth and then moving to dry. It is important to avoid getting liquid on sensitive parts of the case and inside the stand to avoid damaging electronic components. It is prohibited to wash the kettle, stand, cord and plug under the tap.

For cleaning, it is not recommended to use toxic substances, aggressive or abrasive products, as well as sharp and hard objects.

If you need to remove scale, you can use specialized products or a solution of citric acid. After pouring the liquid into the kettle, boil it, wait a quarter of an hour, and, if necessary, repeat the procedure once or twice. After this, it is recommended to rinse the kettle with clean water.

Our measurements

The weight of the kettle is 830 g, the base — exactly 100 g.

When carrying out measurements, we used filtered water at a temperature of 20 °C.

conclusions

The Pioneer KE577M electric kettle features a double-layer casing that provides excellent thermal insulation. This feature makes it safe, hygienic and silent. Thanks to its good heat retention, the kettle maintains a high water temperature for a long time, which effectively reduces energy consumption. The heating function, activated when the temperature is set below 100 °C, also helps save money by preventing unnecessary boiling of water to room temperature.

The accuracy of the temperature settings is noted, where the set values in the heating mode practically do not differ from the measured readings of a laboratory thermometer.

This model is not equipped with a liquid level indicator, but this is not a significant drawback, since this feature is typical for most similar devices with an all-metal reservoir. It's important to note that the actual power consumption of the device was noticeably lower than what the manufacturer stated, which can be disappointing: the Pioneer KE577M does not provide outstanding boiling and heating speed.

Pros:

  • double-walled housing that protects against burns
  • thermos effect, low noise level and hygienic design
  • nice design
  • temperature indication on the case
  • precise temperature setting in heating mode

Minuses:

  • The power of the kettle turned out to be significantly lower than the rated power.
