Garlyn HB-C Cordless Hand Blender Review

19.08.2024 09:55

Our review is dedicated to the Garlyn HB-C hand blender. The main feature of this device, although its design seems to be a classic «3 in 1», is the presence of a built-in battery.

Thanks to the built-in battery, the blender does not require a power outlet and can be used anywhere. For charging, the kit includes a USB Type A — Type C cable. Now let's check how effectively it copes with our standard tests and whether its power is enough to perform the tasks.

Equipment

The blender arrived in two boxes. The outer packaging shows the brand and model name, as well as a schematic image of the device.

The inner packaging, as usual for Garlyn, is bright and attractively designed. The device is packed in a box with a branded ribbon tied in a bow, making it suitable for gifting without the need for additional decoration. Even if you are buying the blender for yourself, this design adds extra pleasure to the purchase.

The sides of the sturdy cardboard box feature high-quality, full-color printing with photos of the blender and its components, as well as key benefits and specifications. This information allows you to get a general idea of the device before you even unpack it.

The Garlyn HB-C kit consists of:

  • motor unit
  • blender attachment
  • whisk attachment
  • chopping bowl with lid
  • mixing cup
  • USB Type A — Type C cable
  • power adapter
  • operating manual
  • brief user manual
  • warranty card

All parts of the device are packed in plastic bags and tightly packed in a box, which prevents possible damage during transportation.

At first glance

The design of the device looks expensive, the plastic of all the attachments and additional elements looks high-quality and is pleasant to the touch.

The motor block body is made of black plastic with a soft-touch coating in the middle and stainless steel at the top and bottom.

The blender body is tapered in the grip area, which ensures a comfortable and secure hold of the motor unit in your hand, preventing it from slipping. The body weighs 730 g, and its length is slightly longer than standard and reaches 24.5 cm.

The only control element is the original orange button, which allows you to smoothly adjust the speed of operation depending on the force of pressing. The button is conveniently pressed with the index finger, although you can also use your thumb, in which case the display showing the current speed and charge level will be turned over.

On one of the side edges there is a USB connector for connecting a charger.

The blender comes with an adapter and a USB Type A — Type C cable.

The attachments are fixed in the usual way: there are two protruding buttons on the sides of the motor unit, and the attachments have corresponding connectors. To install the attachment, simply align it with the buttons and press until it clicks. To remove the attachment, press both buttons on the sides and pull the attachment down.

The blender attachment is made of stainless steel.

Inside the dome is a knife with four blades. The ends of the petals are bent: one pair — slightly up, the other — down.

The assembled structure looks impressive. Its height is 44 cm.

The classic design detachable whisk attachment consists of a plastic base and an attachment with six intersecting metal arcs.

The mixing bowl is made of durable transparent plastic and has a capacity of 600 ml. The bowl does not have a spout or lid, but it does have useful graduations in milliliters and ounces, which is convenient for following English-language recipes.

The chopper bowl is made in a standard design: a plastic container with a capacity of 500 ml, tapering towards the bottom, and a pin for installing an S-shaped knife. There is a rise to the lid for fastening to the motor block. On the edges of the bowl there are marks for measuring in milliliters and ounces.

Double-bladed knife — standard curved shape.

Based on the visual inspection, the blender made a positive impression. The build quality is high, all materials look reliable. At this stage, no defects or shortcomings were found.

Instructions

The Garlyn HB-C user manual consists of two documents: a short instruction on a sheet of A5 cardboard and a smaller, more detailed 22-page brochure.

The bright memo, presented on a separate sheet, contains diagrams and recommendations that allow you to quickly start working with the blender without having to study the instructions for a long time. For a more detailed study of the design, control and capabilities of the device, you should refer to the full version of the instructions. We find this format of documentation very convenient.

Control

The blender is intuitive and easy to operate. The motor unit has a single button located on top. When pressed for the first time, the button activates the display, and when pressed lightly again, it starts the blender at the first speed.

When pressing the button deeply, you can smoothly adjust the speed from 1 to 10. The regulator works without clicks, and the current speed is displayed on the display. The button is sensitive, easy to press and adjust the speed. To operate, you need to hold the button, and to stop the engine, just release it.

The display also shows the charge level in percentage, which allows you to monitor the device's charge and, if necessary, charge it in advance so as not to be left without a blender while cooking.

Operation

Before first use, the manufacturer recommends washing and drying all parts of the blender, except for the motor unit, and fully charging the battery, which will take almost 4 hours when discharged to zero. The motor unit and the upper parts of the attachments can be wiped with a damp and then dry cloth.

Installing and removing attachments is easy and effortless. All attachments are firmly fixed and do not dangle or fly off during operation.

According to the instructions, the continuous operating time of the attachments is:

NozzleOperating time under loadRecommended break
Blender2-3 minutes5 minutes
Whisk30 seconds5 minutes
Chopper30 seconds5 minutes

During testing, we did not strictly adhere to the recommendations and used the blender in the normal mode. During operation, there were no problems with switching off or triggering the overload protection system.

The documentation does not contain information on the maximum operating time of the blender on one charge, but we recorded battery consumption depending on the attachment and processed products:

  • Grinding almost 400 g of tomatoes in 1.5 minutes — 6% charge.
  • Whipping 150 ml of cream in 2.5 minutes — 15% charge.
  • Grinding 130 g of onions in 15 seconds — 2% charge.
  • Grinding 550 g of chicken fillet in 20 seconds — 16% charge.
  • Making a smoothie with frozen berries in 25 seconds — 10% charge.

Care

Cleaning the blender is simple and straightforward: the working parts of the attachments, with the exception of the motor unit, chopper cover, whisk adapter and attachment gearbox, can be washed under running water. The upper parts of the attachments, where the gearboxes are located, cannot be washed with water; they should be wiped with a soft damp cloth. Only the bowl and mixing cup can be washed in the dishwasher.

Our measurements

The declared power of the blender varies from 200 W (nominal) to 600 W (maximum). Although it is impossible to verify this data directly, since the blender does not work from the mains, subjectively the declared parameters seem reliable.

A fully discharged battery charges in 3 hours 55 minutes, which is close to the declared time. Energy consumption during this time was 0.038 kW h.

The noise level of the blender at speed 10 reaches a maximum of 68 dBA, which is quite low compared to similar devices.

Practice tests

Tomatoes

For the obligatory tomato test, we placed quarters of the fruit in the included glass, filling it to the maximum mark. After 30 seconds on speed 10, we had a crushed tomato mixture, although large pieces of skins still remained.

Another minute at the same speed didn’t change anything fundamentally, it just made the mass more airy.

Considering that this is a medium-power wireless device, we rate this result as good.

Result: good

Banana Strawberry Smoothie

Grinding frozen strawberries to a smooth mass with a minimum amount of liquid is not an easy task. Usually, this requires a stationary and more powerful blender, but we decided to try with this one.

We first placed a banana in a glass, then hard pieces of frozen strawberries and added 30 ml of heavy cream. We turned on the 10th speed and began to intensively grind the frozen berries. The blender, which had been working quietly until then, began to make loud sounds. We pressed the attachment down hard, and after 15 seconds, the compacted layer of partially crushed strawberries began to give in and move towards the soft bananas.

The process went faster, the blender became quieter and after another 10 seconds it completely handled the mass.

Result: excellent

Paste

In this test, we checked the blender's capabilities when processing products in volumes exceeding the capacity of the complete containers. In a large bowl, we placed chicken liver fried with onions, chicken breast, carrots and butter. We added salt, a pinch of nutmeg and, so that the pate would not be too dry, poured in 50 ml of chicken broth. So, the blender had to process 700 g of ingredients.

First at 5th, and then at 10th speed, he completed the task in 2.5 minutes.

A good result, considering the thickness and viscosity of the mass. In the finished pate we did not encounter a single piece, everything was mixed very thoroughly.

Result: excellent

Result: excellent

Whipped cream

To test the whisk attachment, we used 150 ml of cold cream with a fat content of 33%. We started whipping at speed 2, gradually increasing it to speed 10. After a minute and a half, when the cream reached the state of soft peaks, we added a couple of teaspoons of powdered sugar. After a minute of whipping at speed 10, we got light, airy cream that did not fall off the spoon.

Result: excellent

Chicken Breast Cutlets

First of all, we chopped the onions and greens. The ingredients reached the state of mush in 15 seconds.

Next, we put chicken fillet pieces into the container. We divided 550 g of fillet into two parts and chopped each for 10 seconds. The blender did the job quickly and efficiently, leaving no large pieces.

After processing, we combined the minced meat with onions, added salt and black pepper, mixed, formed future cutlets and began frying.

Result: excellent

Result: excellent

Grinding dried herbs

The greens were ground up in a matter of seconds.

The stem pieces turned out a little larger than we expected, but overall, they turned out pretty good.

Result: almost excellent

Conclusions

The Garlyn HB-C cordless immersion blender proved itself to be a powerful and efficient device. All attachments showed high performance in most tests. The only thing where the blender failed a little was traditional chopping of tomatoes, but considering its power and class, the result was still quite good.

Smooth speed control and an informative display make working with the blender convenient. The charge level is always visible, so the battery will not run out unexpectedly in the middle of cooking. The kit includes a USB Type A — Type C cable, allowing you to charge the blender not only from a socket, but also from a car charger or mobile battery.

If you want to enjoy your favorite dishes outside the home, this compact device is easy to take with you on a trip. It will also be useful in a kitchen with a limited number of sockets.

Pros:

  • nice design
  • quality of assembly and materials
  • convenient control and informative display
  • high efficiency
  • low noise level

Cons:

  • none found
