Review of the Bosch GAS 18V-10 L cordless vacuum cleaner

The Bosch Professional GAS 18V-10 L cordless vacuum cleaner is designed for collecting, suctioning, moving and separating non-flammable dry dust, non-flammable liquids and water-air mixtures.

The vacuum cleaner is supplied in a fairly large box made of durable corrugated cardboard, decorated in a corporate style.

We tested a new version of the vacuum cleaner (article 0 601 9C6 302), compared to its predecessor, its equipment has been expanded and improved.

The delivery set is quite rich.

This adapter features a bypass valve that must be opened when using a tool that requires little airflow. It attaches to the end of the hose instead of a curved nozzle.

For easy connection of the suction hose, nozzles and adapters, the Click and Clean system is used, providing a quick and secure fit when connecting and disconnecting compatible devices and accessories.

The vacuum cleaner works with Bosch Professional 18V or AMPShare batteries. This approach allows you to easily switch between different devices and tools by simply moving the battery between them. The battery and charger are not included in the package, making it more affordable for those who already have batteries for this system. This option is called Solo and is generally less expensive.

We tested the vacuum cleaner with relatively new Bosch ProCore 18V batteries.

A special compartment with a lid is provided for installing a battery with a capacity of up to 8 Ah.

To use the ProCore 12 Ah battery, you must first unscrew the cap and install the standard plug. You can then install the largest battery currently available.

The accessories included in the kit are provided with special storage spaces directly on the body of the vacuum cleaner. Three segments of the suction pipe are stored in a special mount installed on the side of the device body.

On the opposite side, a hose and floor nozzle holder is installed using a locking screw.

The hose is wound and secured with a loop placed on a hook in the body.

Wheels are installed on the bottom of the device.

Two wheels are equipped with locks, which is very convenient when the vacuum cleaner does not need to be moved during operation. They ensure easy movement of the device on floor coverings and allow you to conveniently pull it along with you while cleaning the room. The device is also convenient to carry using the built-in handle-bracket. The kit includes a strap that can be secured with carabiners and used to carry the vacuum cleaner on the shoulder, for example, when working with a stepladder or ladder.

The filtration system does not require a bag to collect dust and debris. Dirt is collected in a translucent container, and fine dust is retained by a multilayer output folded fine filter.

The vacuum cleaner belongs to class L for dust filtration, which means it can collect dust with an exposure dose of more than 1 mg/m³. Dust of this class (L) is considered the least hazardous and includes dust from paint, lime, plaster, chalk, clay and similar materials. This vacuum cleaner is suitable for use in heavy-duty environments, such as handicrafts and workshops.

To clean the container from collected debris and dust, you need to disconnect the motor unit, remove the fine filter and empty the collected debris in the container.

A vacuum cleaner can also collect liquids, such as water, from various surfaces. Under the folded fine filter there is a valve with a float that protects the device’s engine from moisture.

Be sure to dry the filter before continuing use if it becomes wet.

The vacuum cleaner turns on when you press a button, next to which there is a segment LED indicator that displays the charge level in the installed battery.

The main purpose of the vacuum cleaner is cleaning in the workshop during repairs or finishing work in the house, when there is no corded vacuum cleaner, it is difficult to use, or there is simply no access to electricity.

The vacuum cleaner is not equipped with an automatic switching system with the tool, so you should turn on the vacuum cleaner first, and then the tool. The suction hose of a vacuum cleaner can be connected directly to some tools, but sometimes, even with a standard connection, the suction efficiency is low, which can lead to debris falling on the floor. Using a suction pipe with a floor nozzle allows you to quickly remove household debris or sawdust. The crevice tool helps remove debris from your work area or from the body of your vacuum cleaner. To operate a vacuum cleaner with a hammer drill or screwdriver, it is recommended to purchase special dust removal systems that allow you to work without polluting the environment.

The measurements were carried out in the configuration shown in the photo below. Height 42.5 cm, width 46.5 cm, depth 33.5 cm. Hose length 1.5 m, pipe length of three segments 86 cm.

The noise level was measured when the vacuum cleaner was placed on the floor in the working position without attachments. The sound level meter microphone was installed in a horizontal position at a height of 1.2 m from the floor and at a distance of 1 m from the vacuum cleaner motor unit, aimed at it. The noise level of the vacuum cleaner varies depending on the condition and charge level of the battery. It can reach up to 71 dBA when starting up and gradually drop to 67 dBA before stopping due to battery drain. Even when operating at maximum power, this vacuum cleaner is not a very noisy device.

However, the noise from the vacuum cleaner may be perceived as not very pleasant due to the presence of a distinct whistling sound. Here is a noise spectrogram:

The suction power was measured while operating the vacuum cleaner without attachments with a hose connected and a curved attachment. Two Bosch ProCore 18V batteries were used for testing: one with a capacity of 12 Ah, which was relatively new, and the other with a greatly reduced capacity of 8 Ah. Two tests were carried out with each battery: the first after it had been charged for a day, and the second immediately after being fully charged on a Bosch GAL 18V-160 C charger (article 2 607 226 317). Below are graphs of the dependence of suction power on the created vacuum:

Using a battery in good condition, we measured the maximum suction power to be around 95W. This is quite a high value. It should be noted that according to the manufacturer, the maximum vacuum reaches 9 kPa, and the maximum flow is 86 m³/h (using a GBA 18V 6.3Ah battery). However, our measurements showed a slight increase: 9.9 kPa and 97 m³/h.

In actual use, the operating time of the vacuum cleaner will be longer, since the motor consumption decreases as the air flow resistance increases. The average power when using a 12 Ah battery was 317 W, which exceeds the 260 W declared by the manufacturer. We also measured the actual capacity of the batteries and converted it from Wh to Ah for a nominal voltage of 18 V, as the manufacturer does. The 8 Ah battery, having almost exhausted its resource, showed a decrease in actual capacity. As a result, the operating duration coefficient for a new battery was 3.4 min/Ah, and for a used one — 2.8 min/Ah, which is lower than the value declared by the manufacturer of 4 min/Ah.

The Bosch GAL 18V-160 C charger fully charges a Bosch ProCore 18V 12 Ah battery in 56 minutes (even without Power Boost mode). Thus, two such batteries are capable of ensuring continuous operation of the vacuum cleaner with a break of only about 10 minutes every hour.

The Bosch Professional GAS 18V-10L vacuum cleaner is a compact and effective device for cleaning debris, dust and liquids that does not require a network connection. It is an excellent choice for those who already use power tools with Bosch 18V batteries and are looking for a versatile vacuum cleaner for a variety of tasks: outdoor cleaning, working with power tools or even cleaning the car interior.
