Equipment

IрriGlow PWF 2003 W is now presented in a stylish white box with compact dimensions: 20 cm long, 14 cm wide and 9 cm high. The packaging is made of thick coated cardboard, has even corners and a laminated surface. The lid is decorated with a photo of the irrigator, a logo, the brand name and a quality mark. The side panels of the lid contain information about the model, brand and dental association recommendation. On the back of the box the advantages of this model are listed: low noise level, 10 modes, various types of pulsations, number of attachments, as well as technical characteristics — in three languages.

Inside, you will find the device housed in a spacious compartment, next to the attachment and adapter compartment. The kit includes:

  • The irrigator itself
  • 4 replaceable nozzles
  • Tongue attachment
  • Orthodontic attachment
  • Periodontal attachment
  • Power adapter with wire
  • Manual

At first sight

It's still amazing to read about a small dental device that is «designed for home use» and see a compact, neat «cabinet» that provides hygienic oral care for the entire family.

The stationary irrigator IрriGlow PWF 2003 W is a small device with a rectangular shape and rounded corners. On the left side there is a magnetic mount for the nozzle holder, and a meter-long hose is connected to the main body. On the right side there is a door that reveals a recess for storing attachments. There are seven attachments in total: four standard replacement attachments, as well as an orthodontic, periodontal and tongue attachment — all of which are packaged in individual bags.

On the top there is a door to a removable water tank; you can easily pull it out to wash or fill it with water; you can also easily fill it with water from above using an additional container.

There is a transparent window on the front of the case, next to which there is a scale for measuring the water level inside — from 100 to the maximum volume (670 ml) in increments of 100 ml. Just below are two round regulators: one to control the water pressure, and the other to select pulsation modes. The irrigator provides two pulsation modes, and there are three marks on the regulator: cleaning mode (1), massage mode (2) and the middle position for turning off (0).

There are 10 water pressure modes, presented on the regulator scale, which includes 6 marks: 0 and even values 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. You can set a value in between for more precise settings.

There is a button on the attachment holder to lock the attachment. To install the nozzle, you need to press the button, insert the nozzle into the corresponding slot and release the button, then make sure that the nozzle is securely fastened. During testing of the device, we assigned its use to a junior schoolchild. The first time he missed checking the fastening, and in the process of working, the jet knocked the nozzle out of its socket. However, the child quickly learned his lesson, and similar situations did not arise again. On the front side of the holder there is a stop/pause slide switch for manual control. The holder attachment hose easily folds into a neat spring, for which there is a special recess on the side panel.

On the back of the device is the connection point for the adapter; there is a recess and outlet for the wire so that you can place the device close to the wall. The irrigator is stable, neat and looks good.

The base of the case has small feet for greater stability and a standard indication of the model name and characteristics.

Instructions

The compact booklet, consisting of 40 pages and presented in three languages, provides high-quality layout and is made on coated paper. Inside contains detailed information with diagrams and illustrations about safety, application, configuration, preparation and use of the device. The booklet also covers cleaning, storage and maintenance, and provides a troubleshooting chart, specifications, certifications and warranty information.

If you lose the booklet, you can always download a duplicate from the brand's official website. The brochure has a glue binding, which may not be the most durable; With active use, the pages may begin to come apart.

Control

Let's start with the basics: this device has 10 water pressure modes and 2 pulsation modes. The control knobs are located on the front side of the body, and using the stop/pause slide switch on the handle of the nozzle holder, you can temporarily pause the water flow.

Next, everything is quite intuitive: set the desired pressure level, select the pulsation mode — cleaning or massage. It is important to remember that after setting the regulator to the selected mode, water supply will begin.

The choice of pressure and pulsation regimen is a highly individual matter and is ideally recommended to be discussed with your doctor. In testing, most of our test subjects preferred a pressure level between 6 and 8, as well as a brushing mode for routine oral hygiene.

Exploitation

For optimal introduction to the device, it is recommended that you begin with a discussion with your dentist and obtain advice and approval from a specialist. We advise beginners to start with low power, gradually getting used to the water pressure and taking into account their individual characteristics, as suggested by our dentist.

After that, we chose a convenient location on the sink for the device, made sure it was a comfortable distance from the outlet, rinsed the tank according to the manufacturer's recommendations, installed the nozzle, made sure it was securely attached, and then adjusted the speed and pulsation mode.

Each user has his own individual posture when using the device. A child, for example, hardly leaned over the sink, while adults tilted their heads to the side quite low. Once the device was positioned comfortably, we placed the nozzle in the mouth, toggled the slide switch, and began brushing.

The choice of attachments is also an individual matter and requires recommendations from dentists. A standard nozzle is usually sufficient for effective cleaning. It is important to note that all four standard attachments are identical, and for ease of differentiation it is recommended to mark them with stickers or a marker. Thus, if the standard nozzle is used, this irrigator can serve up to four users.

It is better to fill the reservoir with warm water, especially if you have sensitive gums. If you are preparing a solution, do not forget to rinse the reservoir after use. It is not recommended to use oil-based liquids, as this may shorten the life of the device. For rinsing and prevention, saline solution, salt solutions (1 teaspoon per 250 ml of warm water) or soda are best suited.

To improve effectiveness, it is better to direct the jet at a 90-degree angle to the teeth and gums, starting from the back teeth and moving along the gum line. Be especially careful in areas between teeth or if you have braces.

Changing attachments should be done with the device turned off: turn it off, press the button next to the socket, you hear a click, remove the attachment and install a new one. The manufacturer warns: do not direct the stream under the tongue, into the ears or other places not specified in the instructions. Let us remember that water quickly reveals painful areas in the oral cavity and all unhealed wounds.

Filling the reservoir takes just a few seconds. We are used to pouring water into the device using a measuring cup. 600 ml is enough for intensive cleaning of the teeth of two family members. This volume is poured out in 2 minutes, which is enough time for a thorough cleaning.

Polaris PWF 2003 W works moderately quickly, water flowing under pressure is never silent. The resulting sound is not annoying and is practically inaudible behind a closed bathroom door. As the water level in the tank decreases, the sound becomes louder, and a whistle is heard before complete release, which helps to navigate even with your eyes closed.

The device is lightweight, easy to move, all doors open easily, the tank can be removed without effort, and working with it becomes comfortable almost immediately.

Sometimes after using the irrigator, you may notice drops of water on the walls of the building or slight fogging of the windows. This is quite natural for a device with a closed liquid reservoir. In such cases, it is enough to open the lid, remove the reservoir, rinse or dry it, or simply leave the lid open for a while.

Care

The manufacturer recommends thoroughly rinsing the irrigator at least once a week and using only original attachments designed for this brand model. According to his recommendations, one nozzle is recommended to be used for six months, taking into account hygiene standards.

It is also recommended to rinse the attachments thoroughly, if necessary, rinse them on top with warm water and wipe with a soft cloth. For disinfection, it is recommended to use a 1% solution of chlorhexidine or a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide, and then be sure to rinse with clean warm water.

If you stop using the device temporarily, such as while on vacation, be sure to unplug it and then dry both the internal and external tanks.

Our measurements

We measured the noise level when the device was operating and assessed it as low, about 65 dBA at maximum water pressure. The sound intensity depends on the water level in the tank and the direction of the jet.

According to our measurements, the maximum power consumption was 30 W, slightly higher than the declared value. In standby mode, the Polaris PWF 2003 W consumed 0.02 watts.

The reservoir holds 670 ml of water, but for our tests we filled 600 ml. Water consumption was approximately 2 minutes in cleaning mode and almost 3 minutes in massage mode. It took from 10 to 15 seconds to fill the tank (depending on the intensity of the stream in the tap). The difference in operating time at different speeds is barely noticeable, but depends significantly on the pulsation mode and water quality.

In the table below we present the results of our measurements:

Operating modeOperating time with full tank, min:secWater consumption, ml/min
2, cleaning mode2:01600
6, cleaning mode1:50600
10, cleaning mode1:45600
2, massage mode2:45600
6, massage mode2:50600
