At first sight

Midea MID60S720i is a fully integrated full-size dishwasher. It has three baskets: the lower one for large plates, pots, pans and trays, the middle one for dessert plates, cups, saucers, bowls and other small utensils, and the upper one for cutlery.

The rollers on the bottom rack, like most dishwashers, slide on convex “rails” in the body.

The detergent container is divided into two parts: the larger one, with a sliding flap, is intended for powder and tablets, and the smaller one hides the rinse aid reservoir behind a hinged lid.

In the right front corner of the door there is a curious element that we have not seen in other dishwashers: the ionizer cover, which is illuminated from the inside by blue LEDs. The Ion Dishfresh system is designed to ensure sterilization of dishes and the tank: according to the manufacturer, it destroys bacteria that cause an unpleasant odor.

Next to the handles of the lower and middle baskets there are unusual details: removable rubber labels with a schematic representation of the dishes for which each of the shelves is intended. They do not perform any practical function (it is unlikely that the user needs a regular reminder of the purpose of the baskets), but they look funny and are pleasing to the eye.

The design of the middle shelf is noticeably more complex than that of the bottom. On the right and left, folding stands for cups and other small dishes are attached to the sides of the basket — with cutouts for the stems of glasses. There are two folding holders in the center: they make it easier to place glasses and other tall containers that can tip over when washed.

The design of the middle sprinkler is unusual: one arm of the “rocker arm” rotates not only around the main axis, but also in a perpendicular plane using a special gear. This design directs water jets at the dishes in both baskets at different angles and promotes better washing at maximum load.

Instructions

The user manual is a 48-page A5 brochure printed on thin white paper. The quality of the printing is excellent, numerous drawings and diagrams are easy to read.

The document describes in detail the design of the dishwasher, its correct installation, operation and operation. The document ends with a table with a list of possible faults with measures to eliminate them and a list of error codes.

The documentation set also includes a service book and installation instructions.

Control

Like all similar built-in appliances, the Midea MID60S720i control panel is located on the upper edge of the door. When the machine is closed, the panel is hidden under the countertop.

In standby mode, only the power button is visible on the dark plastic. If you touch it, the dishwasher wakes up and lights up the remaining symbols.

Just to the right of the power sensor is a digital display that displays the predicted or remaining time until the end of the cycle. Next to the numbers are indicators warning about the lack of water, salt or rinse aid.

In the central part of the panel there are program selection buttons. Midea MID60S720i has six built-in scenarios. Three more, which the manufacturer for some reason calls “cloud-based,” are launched using a mobile application (we’ll look at them in more detail below, when we get to operation). A pre-selected mode can be launched with a separate button with a picture of a smartphone.

On the right side there are sensors for controlling additional options:

  • Turbo+ : reduces washing time. The option is compatible with the Eco, IntensiveCare+, 90 minutes, Night, Glass, HygieneCare+ programs.
  • Extra Drying : to improve the drying effect in the Eco, IntensiveCare+, 90 minutes, Night, Glass, HygieneCare+ programs.
  • Automatic door opening : after washing, the machine door opens to help the dishes dry better. The option is compatible with all programs except Quick.
  • The button with the Wi-Fi symbol is used to start pairing mode with a mobile phone. Its backlight also serves as an indicator of the activity of the wireless interface.
  • Delayed start allows you to delay the start of the selected scenario from 1 to 24 hours in 1-hour increments.
  • Ion Dishfresh is an ionization program that sterilizes the dishwasher tank and dishes in it, killing pathogenic bacteria and eliminating unpleasant odors.

The button on the far right starts the selected scenario or cancels it (in the second case, the sensor must be held for 3 seconds).

Smartphone control

To control the dishwasher using a mobile phone, the manufacturer recommends the SmartHome application (formerly known as MSmartHome) by Aideology.

In six months, the number of reviews increased to 12 thousand, but the rating remained the same: at the time of writing this review, it is still 3.4 out of 5. The number of downloads has exceeded 500 thousand.

Before you start using it, you must register an account by confirming your phone number or email address. Authentication through Google services is also suitable for registration. After successful login, you can begin pairing with the dishwasher.

The program tried to automatically detect the device, but in our case it failed. After failure, we were asked to choose a plug-in dishwasher. The list of supported devices is quite large, and it is more convenient to enter the first characters of the model name to search.

The app requires access to Bluetooth and location data to pair and operate. After issuing the appropriate permissions, you should enter the password for the wireless network, turn on the dishwasher and hold down the sensor with the Wi-Fi symbol for three seconds until a beep sounds.

The program will do the rest on its own. The pairing procedure takes no more than a minute and completes without errors.

The main screen displays the parameters of the selected (or last launched) program: operating time and dishwashing temperature. Just below are indicators for the presence of salt and rinse aid, as well as information about the condition of the filter.

Depending on the parameters of the water used, the consumption of salt and rinse aid can (and should) be adjusted. In St. Petersburg, with its soft water, we usually set the minimum consumption of both. With these settings, our dishwasher completely turns off the supply of salt to the softener. But using at least a minimum amount of rinse aid is still required: setting its consumption to a minimum does not disable warnings about the lack of liquid in the application and on the control panel.

Here you can also see information about the filter status. The dishwasher keeps track of the service mileage and, when it approaches a critical value, will offer to rinse it and reset the service interval.

In addition to the standard built-in programs, the application adds three more to the list of available ones. Note that the names are indicated with errors: the “Glass” program is called “Clean Wash”, the scenario for sterilizing dishes “HygieneCare” is simply called “wash”. The third program, “MachineCare+”, is designed to maintain and clean your dishwasher.

In the settings section, you can change the application language, check the firmware version and update it, find out the technical support phone number and read the electronic documentation.

When selecting a program in an application, the user can take advantage of all the additional options available from the control panel. But you can select the washing zone (both sprayers, only the upper or only the lower) only in the application.

The progress of the program can be observed on the screen, and upon completion, the program will notify you about this using a push notification (for some reason with the title “Tips”). She will also tell you about problems at work.

Exploitation

Before you start using the dishwasher, you need to unpack it and connect it correctly, which is not difficult, since the hoses of the device are standard.

Once the machine is in place, it is important to level it horizontally using the two front legs. This can be done using pliers or a wrench.

The user manual contains detailed installation and installation instructions, but we did not notice any differences from other dishwashers of this type during the installation process.

Before turning on for the first time, it is important to adjust the water hardness and rinse aid consumption in accordance with the parameters of the water used. This can be conveniently done using a mobile application, focusing on the water hardness table from the user manual.

The Midea MID60S720i dishwasher offers the following programs:

In addition to standard modes such as eco, intensive wash, and glass mode, the Midea MID60S720i dishwasher has two quick programs (30 and 60 minutes) with different durations and water temperatures. There is also a program for sterilization at high temperature (72°C) and an automatic washing mode, which automatically selects the temperature and duration depending on the degree of soiling of the dishes. Overall, the suite of programs covers most of the users' daily needs.

Thanks to the illumination of the tank, loading and unloading the dishwasher becomes convenient even in low-light conditions. This convenience, unfortunately, is not yet standard among all dishwasher manufacturers. The backlight turns on when the door is opened and automatically turns off after five minutes of inactivity.

The Ion Dishfresh feature is designed to combat unpleasant odors, and although we have not tested the results of the ionizer in the laboratory, after using this feature, the dishwasher does not leave the peculiar smell characteristic of freshly washed dishes — only a slight but perceptible odor is noticeable ozone.

Ionization can be activated in two ways: as part of the main programs (the function is activated during drying) or as a separate program, where it runs for a certain time (30, 45 or 60 minutes) without washing the dishes.

If the corresponding option is activated, during the drying phase, 30-40 minutes before the end of the program, the machine automatically opens the door. This reduces the amount of condensation inside the tank and significantly improves the results of drying dishes.

Instead of the traditional “red beam” indicating the completion of the program, the Midea MID60S720i projects the time remaining until the end of the scenario onto the floor. Bright and contrasting blue numbers look unusual and are perfectly readable in any lighting.

Care

After each wash cycle, it is recommended to turn off the water supply and leave the dishwasher door partially open for a short time to prevent unpleasant odors forming inside the appliance.

The door and its seal should be cleaned periodically with a soft, damp cloth to remove any remaining food. A damp cloth is also used to wipe the control panel.

You should regularly check and clean the dishwasher filter, removing foreign objects and dirt from it, and then rinse it with water. The smartphone application will remind you to service the filtration system and you only need to reset the service interval after cleaning the filter and putting it back.

It is also important to periodically clean the upper and lower spray arms to remove sediment, especially when using water with a high salt content.

Our measurements

Information on energy consumption and water consumption is provided in the documentation. We measured the actual consumption and compared it with the figures specified by the manufacturer.

ProgramEnergy consumption, kWhWater consumption, l
statedactualstatedactual
Eco0.6640.6909.89.5
Auto0.850—1.5501.0038.5—8.711.3

Fast 300.8200.74311.310.0
Glass0.9950.90514.814.3

The rated values for electricity and water consumption turned out to be overestimated: in fact, the dishwasher is more economical than the manufacturer promises. The exception was the automatic program: in it, the water consumption turned out to be higher than indicated in the documentation.

Our measured noise level during operation of the dishwasher does not exceed 46 dBA. This is slightly louder than stated in the technical data. But it is worth noting that our measurements were made on a machine that was not built into the kitchen unit, so the actual noise level after proper installation will most likely be noticeably lower.

The maximum power recorded during test operation was 1825 W. With the backlight on, the dishwasher consumes 2.5 W, and when off it consumes 0.8 W.

Practice tests

Test operation, of course, includes regular dishwashing. But especially for this class of equipment, we have come up with several interesting tests, which we will now talk about.

Eco-program and “artificial mud”

As usual, the perfect mud was used: a simple mixture of mayonnaise and ketchup — but there are some nuances. The dishes that we had so generously covered with it dried within 24 hours. And then we, to call a spade a spade, left it in the lower basket without any order. Earthenware bowls and saucers were stuffed into the middle one, and the cups were placed on a folding shelf. Cutlery and kitchen utensils were laid out in the upper basket, without too much concern for neatness.

For this test we used the standard Eco program, optimized in terms of energy and water consumption. The result turned out to be simply wonderful: the dishes in the lower and middle baskets were washed squeaky clean; we found no traces of dirt either visually or by touch. The cutlery on the top shelf also reached perfect cleanliness.

We also liked the quality of drying: not a drop was left on the dishes, only the plastic parts of the kitchen utensils on the top shelf were slightly damp: condensation drying does not always work well on plastic.

Result: excellent

Automatic program and dried tomato sauce

To test the automatic program, we took three jars — a two-liter and two three-liter jars — and with a sweeping gesture we sprayed their insides with ketchup. As in the previous test, the dirty dishes took a day to dry.

The cans fit comfortably in the lower basket because we folded the far row of holders.

For this experiment, our choice is Auto. Let us remind you: it is intended for lightly or moderately soiled dishes and dishes with dried food — exactly what we carefully imitated.

I was pleased with the quality of washing again: not a trace of tomato on the glass. True, large glass containers do not always dry out when washed — this happened this time too.

Result: excellent

Wine glasses and glassware washing script

In this test, glasses, red wine (inside the container) and thicker lipstick (on the edges) were used. After that, as if they left the kitchen at night and did not enter it until the next evening, our still life dried for 24 hours.

We placed large (600 ml) wine glasses in the middle basket so that the legs rested on the folding shelves. The width is quite sufficient — two or three more guests could be invited.

For this test, we launched the “Glass” program — it is only accessible from the mobile application. The quality of washing did not disappoint us this time either. The thin glass became perfectly clean: not a trace of wine or lipstick. The contaminants inside the vessels were washed off perfectly, despite the almost horizontal position, but a small puddle remained in a couple of glasses: they should have been placed a little more vertically.

In this test, we were primarily interested in the work of the upper spray arm rotating in two planes and the quality of washing large dishes that were not ideally located. We are completely satisfied with the result: jets of water penetrate even almost horizontally located containers. Of course, in normal use such large glasses would be worth placing in the lower basket.

Result: excellent

Intensive program and heavy pollution

We still need to check how the dishwasher copes with difficult cases. Well, as usual, a ceramic dish came to our aid, in which we baked meat with sour cream sauce.

Burnt juice and fat create a crust that cannot be easily washed off by hand. Of course, there was no question of washing it right away or soaking it first.

We placed the uniform in the lower basket, folding the dish guides, and selected the “IntensiveCare+” program for intensive washing.

We were completely satisfied with the result: the ceramics were washed perfectly — not the slightest trace of a burnt crust. We were also satisfied with the quality of drying, although a few drops of water could be seen on the concave bottom.

Result: excellent

Conclusions

We liked the full-size built-in dishwasher Midea MID60S720i for its original — and successful — design of dish baskets, excellent quality of washing and drying, as well as convenient controls. Measurements have shown that its consumption of electricity and water is not too high for devices of this class — even lower than the rated value. The noise level, which turned out to be slightly higher than that indicated in the technical specifications, still remains below the average for similar devices.

This model is distinguished by the presence of an ionizer, which quite effectively resists unpleasant odors inside the tank, control using a mobile application and a very attractive indication of operation: the projection on the floor in front of the machine of the time remaining until the end of the cycle seems to us to be a significant step forward compared to the traditional “red beam” .

But the mobile application, we admit, did not make the right impression on us: although we did not find any critical problems in its operation, numerous inaccuracies and interface translation errors spoil the pleasure of expanding the basic functionality.

Pros:

  • successful and original design of baskets for dishes
  • air ionization function
  • projection of time onto the floor
  • mobile application that adds additional programs and functions

Minuses:

  • carelessly translated and laid out interface of the mobile application
