Review of the Thunderobot Warrior Turbo gaming system unit with Intel Core i5-13400 and GeForce RTX 4070

The advantage of traditional desktops is often considered to be the possibility of flexible configuration, which allows you to adapt to various goals and tasks. However, in practice, many people assemble systems that are similar to each other, both in component manufacturers and in some characteristics. But this is understandable, given the similarity of user needs and tasks. For example, the choice of components for a gaming computer often comes down to using a GeForce x70 video card, a low-end Core i5 processor, a cheap motherboard, standard-capacity memory modules and a terabyte of disk space. This approach strikes a balance between performance and cost.

Over the past few years, this approach has changed slightly, but the principle remains the same. For example, using SSDs for the system has become more popular, and AMD Ryzen processors have also become popular in builds. However, the basic concept remains the same.

The idea of purchasing a ready-made system unit is becoming attractive to those who do not want to assemble a computer themselves. Purchasing a ready-made system provides convenience — all components are already selected, assembled and guaranteed to work together. This eliminates the need to understand technical details and troubleshoot problems associated with incompatible components. Plus, many users appreciate the convenience and ease of use of ready-made systems.

The only downside may be the price, since ready-made systems can cost more than self-assembled systems. However, given the difference between wholesale and retail prices for components, as well as additional assembly costs, the difference may not be that big. Thus, the choice between self-assembly and a ready-made system depends on the needs and preferences of the individual user.

Let's move on to the Thunderobot Warrior Turbo gaming PC, a new model from the manufacturer that promises high gaming performance at a relatively affordable price. This is of interest given the current state of the graphics card market, where high-end models like the GeForce RTX 4070 command significantly high prices. Despite this, many gamers are looking for more affordable options that are still quite powerful due to the increasing demands of modern games.

Appearance and design features

Manufacturers of computers intended for home use have long been trying to give them a more interesting appearance, different from the usual gray rectangular cases. However, the appearance is still fairly standard: a black body with legs, a bezel with a minimum of right angles and a transparent window — a design offered by many manufacturers. The presence of a window is due to the use of illuminated components, often complemented by illuminated fans. Not all users like this approach, but the window can simply be turned off, which makes it a universal solution and eliminates the need to maintain two lines of computers in stock — for those who like backlighting and those who do not like it.

The case is designed to accommodate microATX motherboards. It is worth noting that many people prefer the full-size ATX format when assembling it themselves. However, for most gamers this is not a big deal, since other than the graphics card, other expansion slots are often not used. The case provides enough space to install a video card of any thickness, which is an important criterion for gamers.

The case we use has several useful features. There are two pairs of USB ports on the front panel: USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen1. The headset jack is also well positioned for easy access whether the computer is placed on the floor, in a desk alcove, or on the desk itself. The height of the case is relatively low, making these ports and connectors easily accessible to the user. The manufacturer has taken into account details that, although they may seem insignificant, are actually important for the comfort of customers.

At the back we find six more USB ports: two 2.0, three USB 3.2 Gen1 in the standard version and another of the same port in the fashionable Type-C form. The downside, however, is the lack of a truly high-speed USB port, which seems surprising in 2024 considering Gen2 has been around for over 10 years. However, given the intended purpose of this computer, this may not be so critical. There is also a PS/2 port on the rear panel, which is useful for using an old keyboard or mouse. There is also an analog VGA video output, complemented by modern HDMI and DisplayPort. It should be noted that the video outputs on the motherboard work and can be used simultaneously with a discrete video card. However, in general it is better to connect a monitor (or several) to a discrete video card. The integrated GPU can be useful for connecting an old monitor as an additional or temporary option during the upgrade process. An Ethernet port and three audio jacks can be mentioned as standard equipment. The last three ports are already an inexpensive board.

Among the characteristics of the case, it is worth highlighting the presence of dust filters on the front and top parts, as well as opposite the power supply. These filters can be easily removed for cleaning without particularly affecting the structure. Thunderobot provides the freedom to intervene inside the computer for service purposes, which is even emphasized on the sticker. It is important to note that damage to the sticker may result in more careful treatment of the computer by the warranty service. Otherwise, the user is allowed to clean, lubricate, and install additional equipment, including fans. The number of fans is chosen reasonably: a pair of intake fans on the front panel and a CPU liquid cooling fan on the rear wall. The use of liquid cooling in this case is aimed at improving user convenience, without claiming outstanding efficiency. In total, three fans (plus one in the power supply) do their job well, and if necessary, they can be installed additionally, since there is plenty of space for this.

These components effectively make factory PCs exactly the same as those you build yourself. An important selection criterion remains the hardware configuration and its cost. Serious bezel requirements are rare in this class, and some people may consider the number of fans to be insufficient. However, overall these components do a good job and can be further expanded if needed. Buying this computer will prevent many of the mistakes that can occur when building it yourself, and in most cases this is an advantage. On the other hand, some do-it-yourselfers may spend less on components, but this does not always mean a decrease in quality and this aspect should be taken into account.

Hardware configuration

Since these computers are made of standard components, this section is the most significant. The level of performance is clear without testing. Retail prices for components are always available for inspection in the nearest stores, which allows you to quickly assess the feasibility of choosing a ready-made assembly or prefer an independent solution. Thus, let's start with the usual table.

Computer builders. This is important because the end user typically does not deal with specific brands of components, but is more concerned with making sure everything works correctly. For example, the motherboard may belong to the ASRock B760M-HDV/M.2 D4 series, but specific component manufacturers are not recorded in the specifications. When assembling a PC on your own, you often choose motherboards with a more complex power supply for low-end processors, leaving some room for possible upgrades. In this case, the motherboard is selected taking into account minimizing costs and ensuring stable operation with the selected processor.

And regarding other functionality — this configuration provides only two slots for RAM. However, two 16GB modules are installed, which is likely to meet the needs of most users, and additional memory expansion may not be required. When it comes to storage, it's flexible and upgradable — given the demands of modern gaming, it's recommended to consider a 2TB SSD, although a standard terabyte may also be sufficient for many users.

The standard terabyte drive is distinguished by its quality characteristics — it runs on a budget Phison E19T controller and has TLC memory. Possible comments may only concern the capacity, especially in terms of the needs of the playing space. However, the configuration initially includes a 2TB HDD for general data storage. The system has room to add additional storage devices, such as a third three-inch hard drive, a second two-inch SATA SSD, or a laptop hard drive. Another M.2 2280 slot is also available, which supports SSDs with interfaces from SATA to PCIe Gen4x4. It should be noted that if a SATA device is installed, the third SATA port on the board will be disabled, but the available three ports are usually sufficient for all available bays. The overall approach to data storage is rated positively, and if more space is needed, there are various options for adding additional drives.

The motherboard itself has not two, but three M.2 slots. The third slot (form factor 2230) is intended for installing a wireless network adapter. Usually in this price segment of motherboards this slot remains unused. However, in the case of Thunderobot Warrior Turbo, the manufacturer decided to satisfy user needs for Wi-Fi 6 support by providing additional wireless functionality. Antennas for the wireless network are located on the front panel of the case for better signal reception. This is convenient for users who prefer or are forced to use wireless networks instead of wired ones. This approach allows you to satisfy the needs of both those who already have network cables laid, and those who prefer wireless technologies.

The power supply has excess power for this configuration, but the possibility of using it for future upgrades is not so obvious. In the context of processors, it was noted that the GeForce RTX 4070 video card currently requires PCIe Gen5 (12VHPWR) power cables, while the power supply of this configuration is equipped with an 8-pin “classic” Gen2 power line. This highlights the limited possibilities for deep system modernization. This configuration is likely more aimed at users who plan to use the GeForce RTX 4070 for an extended period of time, rather than those who intend to frequently upgrade components. In the future, when the video card becomes outdated, the system as a whole will also require an update, which may encourage users to purchase new off-the-shelf computers instead of trying to upgrade their current hardware.

Performance testing

In general, you can do without it. Unlike «custom» computers, especially those in compact or non-standard form factors, where the components may be unique, they use standard components that are widely known to users. Our current methodologies, especially in the area of gaming testing, are already outdated and will soon be replaced. We mainly use them to identify potential shortcomings, since performance issues are already well understood.

However, we have the opportunity to compare it with another gaming PC built on a similar principle. Just recently we tested a Core i5-13400F-based system equipped with a B760 chipset motherboard and 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM. Although the video card was more powerful — GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, the rest of the configuration was more modest. Why not make a direct comparison of these solutions if we have the opportunity? We decided this might be interesting.

Let's start with detailed performance results of Thunderobot Warrior Turbo and Raskat Strike 520 in various applications.

Yes, we noticed that there was a slight lag, which was only 10%. However, the main reason for this is the different approach motherboards take to managing processor power consumption. The ASRock motherboard in Thunderobot Warrior Turbo runs almost exactly to the official specifications, delivering only 72.3W of maximum power consumption and 57.9W of average power consumption. On the other hand, Gigabyte's Raskat 520 motherboard allows the processor to operate in boost mode more aggressively, resulting in an increase in maximum power consumption to 93.2 W and average power consumption to 67.1 W.

The question of which approach is more correct remains difficult. «Free boost» may be of interest to experienced overclockers, but its impact is small. If you care about CPU performance down to the percent, then it might be worth considering a build with a higher-end motherboard and looser power management.

However, the main purpose of a gaming PC is to provide good gaming performance. The testing methodology we used may be outdated, but let's still take a look at how the GeForce RTX 4070 handles several low-end games at 4K resolution, comparing it to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.

The difference between the GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti can hardly be called fundamental, but it still exists. These video cards differ only in the suffix, but this affects their technical characteristics. In general, they belong to the same class — high-performance video cards. By modern standards, they are capable of providing excellent gaming performance at resolutions such as Full HD or WQHD. In these resolutions, you can enjoy modern games at high or maximum settings with high frame rates.

However, moving to 4K resolution comes with some limitations, and that's where dynamic upscaling technologies like DLSS come in to help improve gaming performance at higher resolutions. It's important to note that these graphics cards, especially the GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, are often chosen for ray tracing-enabled games, where they perform at their best.

More powerful graphics cards can be difficult to fit into the budget of mainstream computers, as they often cost more than the entire computer. Thus, the choice of GeForce RTX 4070 or GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is justified for players seeking high performance in modern and future games.


Thunderobot Warrior Turbo is simply a good gaming system that provides a high level of performance. In this segment, the configuration looks even unusually rich, but there are some compromises. It's important to note that upgrade options for this computer are limited, especially with regards to the CPU liquid cooling system. Liquid cooling can be convenient, but is not necessarily superior to air cooling in every way.

In addition, the liquid cooling system may encounter limitations when installing more powerful processor models. If a more serious upgrade is required, you will have to change not only the processor, but also the motherboard, which can be inconvenient and expensive. However, for the mainstream gamer, there may not be a need for upgrades for several years. Later, when performance improvements are needed, you can consider replacing the video card with a more powerful one.

In general, choosing the Thunderobot Warrior Turbo configuration, when used for its intended purpose, is almost a win-win and allows you to stay within a reasonable price range. Estimating the cost of a similar set of components is difficult due to price fluctuations and availability in various stores. It is recommended that you do your own research at the time of actual purchase.

The main advantage of Thunderobot Warrior Turbo, like other ready-made system units, is ease of use: after purchasing and installing the software, you are ready to play. An additional advantage is a single two-year warranty (subject to registration of the purchase in the company’s mobile application), which simplifies the solution of possible problems in the future.
