The hairdryer comes with a concentrator with a magnetic mount for easy styling modeling. A special feature of the device is a settings memory system that restores them every time you turn it on.

The manufacturer claims that the hair dryer is equipped with an ultra-high-speed brushless electric motor capable of reaching up to 110 thousand revolutions per minute. This ensures the creation of an even and powerful air flow. All that remains is to check how quickly and efficiently you can dry and style your hair using this attractive device, and how comfortable it is to use.

Equipment

The packaging of the Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer is a high-quality cardboard of a muted pink shade in the form of a durable box. The matte lamination highlights images of the device with a shine, and the company logo and full model name stand out brightly on the front. The side contains the main features of the device, while the back contains technical specifications in three languages, manufacturer information and a sticker with a barcode and serial number.

Inside the box, the hair dryer and concentrator nozzle in plastic bags are placed in cutouts in the foam backing. The hairdryer comes with instructions and a warranty card.

At first sight

The compact body of the Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer has a soft touch matte finish, pleasant to the touch, and practically does not attract fingerprints. The device is available in two color options: dusty pink and graphite grey. Our test received the second color option.

The sticker on the underside of the case can be easily removed without leaving an adhesive residue.

Lightweight and compact hair dryer, excluding the cord, weighs only 550 grams. The body has a cylindrical shape with a length of 10 cm and a diameter of 7.7 cm. One end is equipped with a magnetic ring for attaching the nozzle, and the other, usually intended for the air intake, is closed by a plastic panel with a built-in backlight in the form of a ring and two mechanical buttons.

In this hair dryer model, the air intake filter is located at the bottom of the handle and is protected by a plastic cap with slots. The filter itself has a fine mesh metal coating.

The hair dryer handle has a length of 18 cm and a diameter of 3.5 cm, and is not foldable. The button and sliding switch on the outside are conveniently located under the index finger.

The cord attachment point is equipped with a durable rubber casing. The length of the cord is 1.7 meters, which seems sufficient for the convenience of using a hair dryer at home. For easy storage, there is a Velcro cord on the cord.

The Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer comes with a concentrator.

The hole length is 3.9 cm, width is 1 cm. The accessory has a magnetic fastening.

The nozzle holds well on the body, it is easy to turn it around its axis with your fingers, but if you accidentally touch it, it does not spin or fly off on its own.

The build quality and performance of all elements of the hair dryer are excellent. The materials look high quality, we did not find any visual defects.

Instructions

The instructions for the hair dryer are presented in the form of a 17-page A6 booklet, printed on high-quality glossy paper and designed in the Redmond corporate style.

The brochure introduces the user step-by-step to the device of the hair dryer, providing information about the rules of operation, management and care of it. The text is small and easy to read, although it is worth noting that the font may appear small. However, the hairdryer's controls are intuitive and the operating instructions are so simple that you'll probably only need to read the document once.

Control

Redmond HD 1701 is controlled by three buttons and a two-position sliding switch. The temperature display is color, which is very convenient and simply beautiful.

The right button adjusts the heating temperature of the air flow, also in a circle. Three options are available:

  • minimum temperature — blue
  • average temperature — purple color
  • maximum temperature — red

Using the left button located on the back of the case, you can cyclically change the blowing power. Three power levels are available: minimum, medium and maximum. When switching power, the color of the indication of the corresponding mode changes, becoming brighter with stronger air flow.

After connecting to the network, it is recommended to set the switch on the handle to position I. By default, the hair dryer starts working with the minimum temperature and blowing power, the blue color lights up the indication. The next time you turn it on, the last selected settings are automatically restored.

To activate Cold Air during the drying process, you must hold the button with a blue dot on the outside of the handle for the required time. Changing the power while the Cold blow button is held down is inactive. The hair dryer is turned off by moving the switch to position 0.

Exploitation

We started by removing the hairdryer from the packaging, removing it from the bag, removing the Velcro, and connecting the cord to the electrical outlet. The length of the cord turned out to be sufficient for a standard apartment, and despite the lack of a hinged mount, there were no problems with tangling during use.

There were no unpleasant odors coming from the hair dryer during the entire period of use. The body of the hair dryer, with or without a nozzle, is very compact, and its weight of half a kilo is almost unnoticeable. The control buttons are located somewhat unusually, but conveniently. They protrude from the body enough so that they do not operate accidentally, but they do not require strong force to be pressed.

The three-color display turned out to be a great idea. The controls are simple, but switching temperature modes and blowing power in a circle may seem somewhat inconvenient. For example, you cannot immediately go from minimum to maximum. On the other hand, there are only three modes for both temperature and power.

During practical testing, we dried thick hair up to the length of the shoulder blades (40-45 cm). Almost all the time I used the highest heat setting for about 4 minutes, then switched to medium for about 2.5 minutes, and finally added a couple more minutes to set the style using a cold blow. The blowing power was almost always at the maximum level.

Changes in temperature and power when switching occur instantly, without delay. The air at maximum temperature is comfortable and does not burn the scalp. After drying, the hair became soft, shiny and not electrified at all. The concentrator is great for adding volume to the roots, and together with the round brush it helps to stretch out strands, which is especially useful for those with frizzy and porous hair.

Care

After unplugging and cooling down, the hair dryer body can be cleaned using a soft cloth. It is important to avoid immersing or dousing the device in water. It is also not recommended to use abrasive materials or chemically aggressive cleaning products.

The device filter requires cleaning from time to time. To do this, you need to remove the cap from the handle, lowering it down, and using a dry brush, walk along the metal coating of the filter.

The Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer is equipped with a self-cleaning mode. To start the procedure while the device is operating at the minimum temperature, you must hold the power adjustment button until the backlight starts flashing. The hairdryer will stop working and the user will need to hold down the cool air button. The air supply from the filter in the handle will start and stop automatically. Finally, press the power selection button and turn off the hair dryer. The procedure lasts about 10 seconds. Despite the novelty of the hairdryer, some dust particles flew out during the procedure, which confirms the effectiveness of this function.

Our measurements

Measurements and calculations of the performance of the Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer were made using a wattmeter, thermometer and vane anemometer, which measures the speed of the air flow passing through the hair dryer.

To measure volumetric air flow (the number of liters of air passing through the hair dryer per second), we used the following methodology and experimental conditions. The measurements and calculations carried out allowed us to obtain the following results:

  • Minimum blowing power mode: 18 l/s.
  • Medium blowing power mode: 19 l/s.
  • Maximum blowing power mode: 21 l/s.

Energy consumption for 5 minutes of operation is as follows:

  • Minimum air flow power with minimum temperature: 0.005 kWh.
  • Maximum flow power with maximum temperature: 0.125 kWh.

The noise during operation of the device is moderate, and even at high power the motor does not roar, which often happens with other hair dryer models.

The test for overheating protection was carried out as follows: we install the hair dryer in a cardboard box corresponding to its dimensions, turn it on at maximum speed, close the box and note the time after which the hair dryer turns off. Our hair dryer ran at maximum power with maximum temperature for 35 seconds without turning off. At the same time, there was no smell of an overheated device, and the handle warmed up moderately. After leaving the box, the hair dryer continued to operate normally.

conclusions

The Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer attracts attention even at the stage of the first visual acquaintance, and its functionality does not disappoint in further interaction. Control using color indication is extremely simple and convenient. An optimally selected range of air heating temperature and flow power ensures fast and effective drying and styling of hair.

Thanks to ionization, the Redmond HD 1701 hair dryer completely eliminates unpleasant static electricity from your hair. The concentrator attachment with a convenient magnetic fastening allows you to effectively smooth out unruly strands and add volume to the root zone. The device is easy and comfortable to hold in your hand, weighing only half a kilo, and it does not take up much space when stored. The motor noise, even at maximum speed, is pleasantly low and not annoying, making it noticeably quieter than most similar devices.
