Equipment
Brayer BR1702 arrived for testing in a neat gray cardboard box. On the central wall of the box, a picture of the assembled juicer, the brand name, its power and the warranty period are clearly highlighted. The side panels are decorated with basic characteristics in four languages and photographs of different types of juice.
The package, wrapped in plastic, contains the juicer, already assembled and securely fastened between foam inserts. In addition to the device itself, the kit also includes:
- Juice container that is conveniently placed inside
- Special brush for cleaning the device
- Recipe book with useful recommendations
- User manual
- Warranty card
At first sight
The Brayer BR1702 juicer looks compact and neat. It is easy to remove from the box and easy to disassemble and reassemble. She only needs a little flat kitchen surface or window sill, where there is about 40 centimeters of free space in width, as well as access to an electrical outlet. The device has rubberized feet at the base to ensure its stability.
This juicer has a sleek and elegant design that allows it to fit seamlessly into a variety of interiors.
Its use is intuitive: the process of removing the pusher from the loading neck, lowering the latch and removing the lid occurs naturally. The filter grater is easy to remove along with the juice collector, simply by holding it and lifting it up. The more transparent material of the lid partially allows you to observe the juice extraction process and reliably protects from splashes.
We assemble the Brayer BR1702 in the reverse order: install a filter grater on the motor block, hear a short, characteristic click, cover with a lid, fix it, and install a pusher in the loading neck. Everything is very simple.
The drain spout is adapted to the juice collection container, which has a separate lid. There are also markings on it. The container for the pulp is covered with the same lid as the motor block, outwardly actually merging with the device.
Indeed, the design used in juicers is quite standard and widespread. This is not so much copying one device as using a common layout scheme for similar devices. Many models, including the Redmond RJ-M909, Gastrorag HA-007, and the previously popular Steba E160, follow a similar design: a cylindrical body with a loading tray in the center, a clip-on pulp container on the left, a common lid for the container and the body, secured with a bracket, the presence of a spout for releasing juice on the right and a speed regulator at the bottom. It is simple, convenient and easy to assemble and disassemble for cleaning and maintenance.
The stainless steel filter grater is round and also very neat, it looks safe, but it is better to wash the sharp edges of the cutters at the bottom with a brush rather than with your hands. It is inserted directly into the motor block with a speed switch, of which there are exactly two.
There are two pushers in the set: for the entire length of the neck and a slightly shorter one. The groove on the pusher helps to insert it in the desired direction and securely close the neck.
The not very large power cord is attached to the bottom of the rear wall of the case.
Instructions
The book, consisting of 40 pages in A5 format, is presented in four languages and contains all the basic information about the juicer. It contains a detailed diagram of the device, safety instructions and recommendations for use, quick tips, steps for preparing juice and what to do if the device overheats. Basic aspects of cleaning, care and storage are also described. The brochure contains a standard table of faults and how to resolve them, as well as information on the correct disposal of the juicer. In addition, the kit includes a warranty card and a color booklet with juice recipes. If the instructions are lost, you can download them from the manufacturer’s official website.
Control
The Brayer BR1702 has everything pretty standard: two speeds and one mechanical three-position switch. The first speed is low, the second is maximum; when the regulator is moved to position 0, the juicer stops working.
The first attachment, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, is designed for squeezing juice from soft, watery fruits, berries and vegetables, such as ripe pears, oranges, plums, grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers and others. The second attachment is designed for squeezing juice from hard fruits and vegetables, such as apples, carrots, beets, potatoes, zucchini, cabbage, pumpkin and the like.
According to the instructions, the recommended continuous operation time of the juicer is no more than 1 minute. However, in practice, the device interrupted its operation without any problems when adding new pieces of vegetables or fruits into the loading neck.
The juicer is also equipped with misassembly protection, which prevents the engine from starting if the components of the device are not installed correctly.
Exploitation
After carefully unpacking the Brayer BR1702 and carefully reading the instructions, we completed the complete set, learned how to assemble and disassemble the device, checked it for damage, and thoroughly washed all parts with warm water, excluding the motor unit. Having prepared a comfortable workplace, we began to prepare vegetables and fruits for testing.
The juicer was easy to disassemble and assemble, as well as easy to operate. However, during testing with apples, difficulties arose, related more to the quality of the fruit than to the operation of the device. During this experiment, the juicer began to make louder noises, appearing less like a normal buzzing sound and more like a sharp squeaking sound. We immediately stopped the device, identified the cause of the problem and then continued operation calmly and without incident. This showed that noise level can also serve as a signal that the Brayer BR1702 is not performing well under certain conditions of use.
The lid tightly closes the device and does not allow splashes to stain the surrounding surfaces. The only thing that dripped was the remaining juice from the drain spout when the container was removed from under it. To avoid this, just tilt the body of the juicer a little, it is not heavy, or place any saucer under the spout.
The spin speed was quite high, and the cake of solid products turned out to be completely dry, no longer suitable for reprocessing. We didn't notice any large pieces or rough parts in it. The most tedious part of the process of making juice in the Brayer BR1702 was preparing the products for processing and caring for the juicer afterwards — however, the latter is not as difficult as it seemed.
Care
A simple experiment confirmed a clear rule: it is better to wash the parts of the device immediately. Let us remind you that the juicer is quite easy to disassemble. The pulp is easily shaken out of the container, the filter is easily cleaned with its own brush or any other brush that you use. We timed it: it took us about 5-7 minutes to disassemble, rinse the parts and arrange them for drying. If you don’t prepare juices from different products, like we do, then you can wash the juicer once a day.
We decided to leave the device for half an hour, and only then start cleaning. In the pulp container and lid, the pieces stuck to the plastic and came off worse than when we immediately washed them off, but still quite easily.
The body of the motor unit itself can be wiped with a soft damp and then dry cloth.
Our measurements
The maximum power of the Brayer BR1702 depends on the hardness of the processed raw materials and the operating speed. At the first speed it fluctuated on average around 290 W, at the second — from 430 to 470 W. The juicer showed its maximum when squeezing juice from whole apples — 470 W.
Practice tests
Result: 3 minutes 24 seconds, 652 g of juice (no foam).
Mandatory Test No. 2 (Pink Grapefruit)
We peeled the fruit not only from the peel, but also from the film, which contains the main bitterness. As a result, it took more time to clean the fruit than to prepare the juice. For the future: this model does not require such care; on the contrary, small slices flew into the cake more often and more often. Which, by the way, turned out to be a lot, and it was not dry. But the juice turned out virtually without foam, very tender, without pulp and very rich. He didn't have enough space in the juice container and had to take a leak.
Result: 2 minutes 4 seconds, 526 g of juice (without foam).
Mandatory test No. 3 (carrots)
The carrots were washed and cut into small pieces, which were placed in the neck and held with a pusher. This test was faster, the cake turned out to be homogeneous, very fine and quite dry. There was little foam, but the juice was bright in taste, soft and very tasty.
Result: 3 minutes 18 seconds, 506 g of juice (no foam).
Mandatory test No. 4 (cabbage)
The cabbage was rinsed, cut into medium-sized pieces, which were placed in the neck and pressed down with a long pusher. The cake turned out to be small and very dry; we did not find any large pieces of leaves in it. Our hopes of using the pulp to fill the unleavened pie were not justified. Perhaps the reason was the good quality of the cabbage itself. But the juice turned out to be rich, bright in taste and very satisfying.
We took 400 g of seedless grapes, washed them, threw handfuls of berries into the neck and held them with a pusher. It all took about 40 seconds, and the result was 245 g of pure, tender and beautiful juice. The cake remained very soft and juicy.
Result: excellent.
Peaches
We washed, removed the pits and cut into rough pieces three large peaches, about 400 g. The processing took a little more than 50 seconds, and the result was 220 g of thick, pulpy, sickly sweet juice. We happily ate the remaining cake with a spoon.
Result: good.
Conclusions
