Budget trimmers represent a separate class of devices that often cause mixed impressions: either high quality and efficiency, or complete uselessness when the device does not meet expectations.
It is interesting that it is almost impossible to determine the quality of a device by its appearance, and sometimes even stylish trimmers and razors do not necessarily live up to expectations, while devices that are unsightly in appearance can turn out to be very effective, comparable to devices from well-known brands.
Today's review includes the Felfri FFTR-04, an attractively designed and affordable trimmer equipped with a wide range of attachments and combs. Let's take a closer look at it and find out whether it deserves its reputation as a successful budget device.

Equipment
The device was delivered in a compact rectangular cardboard package of small sizes. The box looks durable and neat, has a simple, no-frills design: most of the surface is painted black, simple fonts are used, and white lettering is used.
On the front side of the box there is a photograph of the device itself, and on the back side the main characteristics and contents of the package are indicated. The Felfri logo is repeated on the side edges.
The manufacturer does not skimp on a variety of attachments and accessories, providing a huge number of components for less than 1,300 rubles (at the time of writing the review)!
The degree of protection of the packaging ensures reliable safety of the device and all its components during transportation and storage. The trimmer can be easily put back into its packaging, for example for long-term storage.
At first sight
It's no secret that many budget trimmers have similar characteristics. However, it seems that the cost of producing these devices continues to decline. We immediately noticed not only the extensive range of attachments and accessories, but also the presence of a residual charge indicator on this trimmer. A few years ago, such indicators were positioned as innovations by large brands. Currently, they have become a standard in almost any device, regardless of its price category.
The motor unit of the trimmer is made of inexpensive matte plastic. The assembly is neat, which makes the device quite attractive in appearance.
Let us immediately note that the case practically does not collect fingerprints and other dirt.
The only control button is made in a metallic shade. On the front panel, in addition to the button and Felfri logo, there is a darkened panel behind which there are LED indicators.
The trimmer is not equipped with special buttons for fixing the attachments. The attachments are easily fixed in place with light pressure and removed with the same effort.
The weight of the motor unit with the main trimmer attachment is 127 grams.
Having removed the nozzle, you can see the mechanism that transmits torque from the motor to the knives — this is a regular asymmetrical metal pin. Also visible are the latches that serve to secure the attachments in place.
At the base of the motor unit there is a USB Type-C connector, which is used to charge the trimmer.
The length of the wire is 1 m. Also included in the kit was an adapter with a stated power of 5 V 1 A.
Our trimmer itself can be charged from any device with a regular USB port. However, the included adapter is most likely not useful for charging modern smartphones, since they often require higher power. This adapter can be useful for less demanding devices, such as our trimmer, garlands or LED lights.
Now about the replacement nozzles. Trimmer attachments with stainless steel blades are very similar to each other. The assembly is of fairly good quality (metal screws are used to disassemble them), and visually they look attractive.
The main trimmer attachment has a working area of 32 mm wide (pictured on the right).
This attachment accepts 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm combs.
They all look alike. To avoid confusion, each of them (except the leftmost comb, designed to work with a precision trimmer) says what length of hair it is designed for.
The next attachment (located in the middle in the photo) — a precision trimmer — has a working area 2.5 cm wide. It is designed for more precise processing of certain areas, such as a beard, mustache and sideburns. This attachment comes with one comb (located on the left in the photo), which allows you to set the length of the bristles from 2 to 6 mm.
Finally, the attachment on the left is a trimmer design that allows you to work with individual hairs. It can be useful for more careful treatment of contours and eyebrows.
Installation and removal of all attachments is quite easy and simple. We didn't find any difficulties here; It is only important to correctly fix the attachment relative to the trimmer body.
The attachment for the nose and ears turned out to be quite standard.
The 38 mm wide foil attachment is designed for shaving and trimming short stubble on the face.
After removing the mesh, you can see the inside of the nozzle — a knife block with a spring-loaded fastening.
What else is included in the kit:
A bottle of oil for lubrication, a plastic comb and a miniature plastic brush for cleaning.
...as well as a plastic “base” that makes it easy to store the trimmer and numerous accessories.
An additional bonus is a soft fabric storage bag with string ties.
The trimmer uses a 600 mAh lithium-ion battery. This is indicated by the inscription located on the back of the device.
According to the first impression, we see a simple but high-quality device with which you can solve almost all problems related to caring for hair on the face and a little on the head.
Instructions
The instruction manual is a compact black and white brochure printed on high-quality glossy paper.
Here we will find 14 pages with a detailed description of the trimmer itself and all kinds of attachments. There are also rules for operating, cleaning and caring for the device, equipped with black and white illustrations that are not of the highest quality.
In general, we have before us simple instructions for a simple device. Not without typos, not without errors, but overall it performs its function successfully.
Control
The device is turned on and off using a single mechanical button located on the front side of the device.
There is an LED indicator above the button, which does not stand out in any way when it is off. While the device is operating, the indicator shows the remaining battery charge level (in percent). Next to it is a charger connection indicator, which lights up when the trimmer is charging.
Exploitation
There are a few key points to pay attention to before you start using your trimmer. It is important to carry out the initial charging of the device, as recommended by the manufacturer, leaving the trimmer on charge for 1.5 to 2 hours, the total charging time should not exceed 2-3 hours.
If the trimmer will not be used for a long period (about 2-3 months), it is recommended to unplug it and store it in a secluded place. Please fully charge the device again before using it again.
In addition, to keep the battery in good condition, the manufacturer recommends completely discharging it every 6 months and charging it again. It is recommended that you create a reminder to complete this procedure.
In practice, the instructions for using the device are standard: the skin and hair must be dry. It is recommended to start cutting with the largest comb.
The microrazor should be held at an angle of 45 degrees. To trim your beard and mustache, it is recommended to use different sides of the attachments. When shaping the sideburn line and other areas, you can start at the edge and work your way towards it. The manual did not contain an explicit prohibition on using the trimmer when connected to a charger, although the operating mode of the device in this case may be limited.
During testing, the trimmer demonstrated good performance. It worked quite smoothly, and the replacement attachments and combs were easy to install and remove.
Care
The trimmer requires regular cleaning to maintain efficient operation. After each use, the manufacturer recommends “brush off any remaining hairs using the cleaning brush,” and also remove the head from the blade and rinse it under running water.
The housing can be wiped with a dry or damp cloth, but should not be immersed in water. It is sometimes recommended to lubricate the trimmer blades with oil, which is supplied with the device. This convenience of configuration deserves special mention and gratitude.
Our measurements
According to our measurements, the weight of the trimmer together with the standard attachment (blade) is 127 grams. The dimensions of the device are 40x37x157 millimeters.
To evaluate the operating time of the device after a full charge and the battery charging time, we tested the trimmer based on the manufacturer, which promises up to 100-120 minutes of continuous battery operation.
We measured the battery capacity by turning on the device repeatedly at intervals of 5 minutes. Our trimmer worked for 104 minutes and turned off, which corresponds to the stated characteristics of the developer.
It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to fully charge the battery.
Practice tests
During testing, we checked how well the trimmer handles different lengths of stubble and tested several attachments. We started testing with fairly long bristles.
This is what our test sample looked like at the start of the test.
Nozzle 12 mm
Let's start, as the manufacturer recommends, with the largest nozzle — 12 mm. Let's try cutting the beard on the cheeks.
Let's say right away that it turned out pretty average. Hair was reluctant to fall under the trimmer blades; we were unable to form a neat beard even after several passes. Obviously, 12mm cutting is not the strong point of our device.
Result: bad
Nozzle 9 mm
Well, let's try to reduce the length, use a 9 mm nozzle.
And it turns out, I must say, quite worthy. Certain “roughnesses” are, of course, present, but the main area of the haircut was cut quite evenly, without significant flaws. We rate our result as good. Especially if we do not forget that this is a budget trimmer, from which we, in principle, do not have high expectations.
Result: good
Mini trimmer and designer trimmer
Let's now try what miniature trimmers can do. The mini trimmer cuts hair, leaving 2-6 mm depending on the position of the nozzle. And the design trimmer can shape the edges of the beard/mustache. Note that a designer trimmer is also perfect for catching individual hairs and for trimming eyebrows (primarily shortening long hairs and shaping contours).
Divide the beard into two parts — on the cheeks and on the chin using a design trimmer.
It is clear that we will not be able to remove the hair “to zero” in this way, but it is quite possible to form contours for subsequent finishing.
Well, with the help of a mini-trimmer we get short stubble of 2 mm in length, which can then be easily removed with a regular razor. This way you can easily trim your hair where precision is required. For example, on the mustache.
Result: good
Razor
Frankly, we did not expect any special achievements from the razor attachment. We all understand: a razor included with a trimmer is an additional feature that usually does not work very well.
However, during testing, we found out that the razor attachment can quite successfully form contours by shaving off excess hair.
Of course, you can’t do this without catching individual hairs, but we rate the shaving quality as quite good. Our trimmer will not replace a full-fledged razor, but this is not the goal: you can shave with a trimmer in a special case (when you don’t have a regular razor at hand or it’s broken). You can shave some areas. And more is not required here.
Result: good
conclusions
After conducting tests, we concluded that the Felfri FFTR-04 trimmer represents a worthy offer for its price. This is a budget device with a wide range of knives and attachments, some of which do not provide ideal quality of work. However, in approximately two thirds of cases we obtained quite satisfactory results. At this price level, we did not expect more, and the trimmer performed its function acceptably.
The most successful aspect for us was the use of short combs (3 mm or less). However, if you need to maintain relatively long stubble (9-12mm), this Felfri FFTR-04 may not be the best choice: this is one of the weak points of this trimmer.
Based on the results of our tests, we note as advantages: the ability to maintain a beard and mustache up to a length of 3 mm, the presence of a mini-trimmer for creating a beard/mustache line, and an effectively working razor attachment. However, among the disadvantages are the practical uselessness of 9 and 12 mm attachments, as well as sometimes unsatisfactory performance of the trimmer, causing discomfort when removing hair.
In our opinion, this trimmer is not so much suitable for daily use as it is for casual situations. For example, to maintain order in your beard and mustache once every one to two weeks. Felfri FFTR-04 can also be useful as an additional or spare tool — for traveling, to the country, on hikes and in situations where the use of professional and expensive equipment is impractical or risky (for example, the possibility of accidental damage or loss).
Pros:
- many attachments included
- good appearance
- low price
Minuses:
- Occasionally pulls hair when using short combs
- does not cope well with haircuts in 9-12 mm modes
